Guild Wars 2 is a nice alternative to ESO

So this past week I've been getting into Guild Wars 2, I've played 4 classes and settled on to maining Guardian that's at level 61 currently. GW2 is quite a lot like Elder Scrolls Online, the character building and world/PvP structure is very similiar, both are casual friendly and just nice to play. But what ESO has in overall polish and visuals it loses in depth, in every zone you have your cookie cutter Dolmens, Delves and Dungeons. But in GW2 the way events are done is unique to each zone with a couple of caravan escort and void ones, but mainly every area has its own things. And character building in GW2 is also way deeper, in ESO I've never felt like I've made a character of my own just picking from obvious best in slot choices where every class is identical, but in GW2 it's similiar but has way more options. For example a Warrior with a greatsword does warriory stuff with it, while a Mesmer uses it to shoot lasers and beams, a sword wielding elementalist uses it as a catalyst for spells and a Guardian teleports around with it and deals high damage combo attacks, while having the choice of an offhand weapon with unique skillsets. And adding to that 3 short selectable passive trees out of a selection of 5-7 you can create some funky builds, that all translate to PvP which is surprisingly rewarding, you can get level up books which instantly grant you one level, dungeon gear, cosmetics and end game resources just for casual PvP very very fun. So if you do like Elder Scrolls Online and are not bothered by a bit of dated visuals and a bit of jank, I do recommend Guild Wars 2 a lot. (Protip, enable area loot and bind action camera to shift in GW2, action cameea makes the game control pretty much exactly like ESO)

  • The big problem with GW2 IMO is that is has way too many currencies. Also, even though I like GW2, I play it in spurts if you nolife it it gets old pretty fast. I do however like the dungeon en quest design and the fact that you just need 1 set of gear to be able to play the content without it becoming obsolete every few months (*cough wow cough*). On the other hand the economy makes absolutly no sense to me, raw materials are much more exoensive than the finished goods you make with them so leveling your trade is either very time consuming or expensive.
