Iron banner Matchmaking is worst then regular Control

And that is really something u think couldnt go worse.

  • The matchmaking is the same. Its just that you have a lot more people running as teams (if you dont' play Freelance)...and the game mode has a HUGE snowball mechanic (lockdown) that isn't part of regular Control. So the matches are even more lopsided than in regular control.

    • Without SBMM, all crucible sucks for those of us not gifted in pvp skills. I would play a ton, and used too, when SBMM was turned on. But now, it’s just an exercise in frustration and humiliation. Avoid at all costs.

    • Yea, I seem to get matched with people that have better connections in control. IB comes around and all of a sudden I start seeing people rubber banding, taking no damage (unless you shoot them in the back then they take damage 🤷🏼‍♂️) bouncing around the screen all Willy Nilly... Don’t care about mercies, just want games with good connections. I want to win because connections are good, I want to lose clean to good connections not people on McDonalds wifi or are downloading the greats hits from P.Hub while playing. When I’m destroyed (win or lose) I want it to be from being outclasted not from being unable to deal damage to players with my grenades, supers, guns why they just run around killing everyone. Bungie put in ping restrictions for matchmaking! Let players choose how much latency they want to deal with! And when players start going over the limits for the match once it’s started, kick them to orbit! That’s the QoL upgrade I’d want.

        Im getting very tired of the IB Quest step - I completed it all on the warlock - and had to quit the heavy weapon machine gun kills on my hunter so that my titan could participate in IB. Bungie if you are listening, unless you go back to dropping heavy chests on both sides of the map then please get rid of any heavy quest step in IB. It is a minor miracle when you do get heavy ammo - and another still when you get a machine gun kill if your team mate doesnt take credit for the kill at the same time. Also IMO this Quest should be Account Wide - so if I completed it on my Warlock I should not have to complete it on the other two guardians.

          The good team to bad team ratio is all off 😂 You’ll end up in like 10 bad teams where you lose immediately or have to quit from frustration and you get on 1 or if your lucky enough 2 hood teams where you win.

        • Oh, yeah. All I hear is “I’m calling it” over and over again. These lousy 4 minute matches are a joke. I go match after match without getting to use my super even once.

          • From my experience in both normal and freelance, the games are always tilted on sided. I've been getting my ass handed to me or I'll be winning crazy good. SBMM needs to come back.

          • There used to be SBMM but everyone complained about that. Bad connections and every game being sweaty were the main complaints. But I liked it better than what we have now. You're either getting completely destroyed or it's a complete cakewalk.

            • If you aren't in freelance, the only teams you will face are 5 or 6 stacks sweating as hard as possible. Every game always ends in mercy. It's absolutely terrible. I dont care what anyone says, we need skill based matchmaking back in Iron banner. This garbage is getting old. No it won't fix everything, but its gotten WAY worse ever since they swapped to connection based.

              • When you're a mode that encourages imbalance: is a regular puller of more active/proficient players is power based has an extra shit mechanic that snowballs games easily. It's always going to be worse. But oh yeah just blame matchmaking and not consider anything else...

              • Both IB and control have the same matchmaking. Both are brutally unbalanced.

                Over 50% of my matches are mercy. Bungie needs to fix this. Match making is absolutely broken!!

              • Hey! :) Are you doing solo or with a team? Freelance is very even and matchmaking is much more precise, skill level of yourself would be at fault, unfortunately :( However, if that is not the case, do not matchmake towards "Team-Mode." It wouldn't make much since matchmaking with people who are well coordinated with microphones, by yourself. More importantly you still have an equal chance of getting rewarded regardless of a loss or win. Furthermore, Iron Banner "KD." Does not mix and match with crucible. Have some fun and try your best! -Triston

                • It's like they included their RNG code in the match making! Sometimes I get into really good matches where both teams are pretty much even. One match had both teams take the lead 3 times (luckily my team won by 2). Most of the time it's a blowout. I'm either with or against inexperienced players with no map awareness.

                    Snake Draft Matchmaking specifically handicapping good players. Light Level Based combat. Objective based combat. Bounties that require you to play less objectively or focus solely on objectives rather than actually fighting. Quests that require you to use, often times, badly balanced or non-ideal weaponry. Stasis. The wolves mechanic. Iron Banner has been in a bad state for years and they keep doubling down on outdated ideas as time goes on. Edit: spell check

                  • My first two rounds were straight mercy rules. Both times my team couldn’t even reach 25 Points. Nobody on my team had a positive K/D while the other team was sitting at a 2+ KD across the board. Finishing the quest is going to be fun.

                    • The entire PvP matchmaking algorithm is probably as confused as we all get when Bungie implement changes that don't make sense.

                    • I can’t tell if it’s skilled play or hacks, all I know is that my shots due virtually no damage and kills are non existent, but deaths are abundant. At one time it was fun, but now it’s a chore. Should be if a player has 30 power levels above you or a k/d of 2 or more they do half damage and you do twice as much. Yet it won’t count against their stats, making the game at least fair.

                      • It's actually hard for me to tell, everyone trying to get kill types for the quest, not interested in team score and capping zones. Lots of mercies, though. Which is not new.

                      • It absolutely is 100% worse than normal control mode. And to make it worse there's far more sweats in IB than normal control.(Looking at you, shotgun nerds..) Level advantage should be disabled because it is borderline unplayable below 1300 light level and idk if this has been a thing lately but i keep getting prefired like crazy when i peek around the corners, it seems there's a literal heckton of desync which was definitely not the case when i played actively over a year ago.

                        • Agreed. I lost 6 games out of 7 being mercy or total hand cannon and shotgun wars. Practically unplayable now with try hards not even doing the objective. Banner isn't as fun as what it was in D1.
