Look at all the events.
Its easy to tell what the focus was and always will be. When is the last time an event in Destiny 2 got a real content update?
Haunted Forest update? No.
The Verdant Forest was scrapped after 1 run even though it was more fun that the haunted forest imo.
The Dawning? The event with somehow the least actual content? Ha! No.
The Guardian Games...?
What do they have in common? Eververse has THE best loot. Ooh, I get to earn a sparrow if I grind enough bounties and triumphs ("not bounties") but the ornaments are all paywalled behind silver or bright dust.
"Dur but you can earn bright dust", I hear defenders say, but that's not the same as playing the event and earning the event loot is it? Who cares about a new sparrow or ship after a week or two of having it when a new shiny sparrow or ship comes along (or when you can just use always on time for speed)? People want the ornaments and that's where most of if not ALL the effort is put in rather than into the event itself.
Crimson Days was a simple twist on doubles in PvP and now neither will ever come back because it was scrapped. Why? Becausw we can have events that are literally nothing but the same grind as the rest of the year with banners and the "Event" label!
Welcome to the Dawning, where you do exactly what you've been doing for the last 6 years and you get to press a button that *BAKES COOKIES* (wow!). What's the reward!? A weapon or two and heaps of blues, maybe a sparrow and ghost in there somewhere! Don't forget to visit eververse for the good stuff though!
Welcome to the Guardian Games..... (you get the idea, right?)

Every event in this game is nothing but an eververse promo
-
Thats exactly my point. Some people still don't understand that. Besides that, Eververse promotion goes beyond the events and as I mentioned, the fact that the events exist only as Eververse promo goes against what Bungie originally said it would be for. Every new or old exotic you get comes with a flashy new skin the game kindly directs you to Eververse to check out, available now for silver. Events that are supposed to contain themed content and things to do for the season are supposed to be funded by Eververse yet as I said they haven't been touched in all of D2 and 2 of the 3 we have left could be removed and the game would be missing nothing but the disguise it wears to trick players into thinking events are fun and unique.

Every single gatcha game on phone uses the exact same business model. F2P? better spend every waking moment you have in this game just to get some lower tier stuff, or just give Bungie your money for the "Better" loot. And to just be clear, I have never spent 1 cent of my hard earned money on their Cash shop. Hell I still have the 400 free silver they gave us in Destiny 1 to try to get players hooked on Eververse, because I knew what it was going to turn into.

Glad to see more people can see what is becoming of the gaming “industry”. It’s been happening since mobile “games” came out in the mid-late 00’s. Those practices have been steadily infecting and corrupting more and more games and less and less of them don’t have that insidious in them anymore. 😞

Since they got rid of bright engrams you can’t even get them for free I used to get every exotic cosmetic from grinding - now - since they introduced it - I’ve completed almost every single season pass and I haven’t gotten a single one from their “bright engrams”

Edited by cycofreak3: 4/24/2021 7:00:59 AMAdmittedly I have bought a few things, I regret that. Greatly. The decision to make the game "F2P" was always going to push things this way I guess, especially since the F2P model is also Bungie trying to have things both ways. Its F2P but you still have to pay for expansions and seasonal content.

Edited by Mara Sov’s Step Bro: 4/24/2021 9:31:02 AMThe game isn’t F2P though. It’s a free trial. Virtually everything is locked behind paid expansions and they removed %90 of the content from the “free” game with Europa. Calling it F2P is just a lie for them to justify this shit. It’s either free to play in its entirety or it’s not. Something that is free to play and is limited is called a “trial”

Edited by cycofreak3: 4/24/2021 1:31:21 PMNo I know... believe me I know. Thats why I had "F2P" in quotations, cause its bullshit and an excuse. As I said, the decision to do what they did was always pushing things this way and it was always going to be Bungie trying to have it both ways.

After last year, I hope they scrap the Dawning. People can say all they want that it was a free event in a free game that didn't require too much grind from individual players, but those same people seem to not understand that if they didn't triple the Spirit gains that we would've failed, and the rewards for an otherwise impossible quest could've all been grinded (except for the cosmetics) from Legend-GM NFs in about 10 minutes. Imagine if they did this with the Felwinter quest and made it inferior to the curated Mindbender in every way that matters?

Its not even about the fact that the community challenge failed but that's also a good point. I hope to never see a community challenge for anything because IF we complete it without Bungie having to essentially complete it for us, it will still just be that the more hardcore players and streamers do most of if not all the work because the casual players don't give a crap (and why should they?) I want the Dawning gone because its an event in name only. Baking cookies and giving them to NPC's is a middle man that doesn't need to exist, however without the middle man there's no reason for the event. They might as well put the weapons in a loot pool and call it a day. No matter what anyone says, the Dawning is worthless. SRL may be widely disliked but it was something to actually do that was different to the regular grind and there were new maps added. Say that about D2 events without lying.
