The argument against this is always- Bungie has to fix the game first.
Well they’ve been trying to do that for four years. You cannot use that as an excuse.

So why add something else that will be broken?

Think about the it. All the sparrows will be the same speed. No nerfs or buffs needed. You can’t use aimbot in a race. No cheaters. The odds of screwing this up are very slim.

Bungie has said before they won't bring it back. The number of people who actively participated in SRL in D1 did not match the amount of work required to maintain the mode (maps, sparrows, armor sets, sparrow effects, various bugs, etc.) And I mean, think about it, everyone is always complaining about Gambit. The last time the map rotation was updated it was to remove maps, not add them. Motes are still buggy, matching almost always lopsided. Gambit has the lowest player population compared to the other modes, when Bungie adds challenges tied to Gambit everyone complains about them because they want to play as little Gambit as possible. Why also add another playlist with it's own list of issues. Also, 100% there will be cheaters, there are always cheaters in video games. People can say it's a dumb or invalid argument but it still stands. I would rather a game with 3 modes that all work perfectly fine, balanced and fun to play; than to have 5 or 6 half baked game modes, some work, most don't and half are filled with cheaters. I would love it if SRL returned too but how many times have people created these posts over the years and Bungie just keeps saying no, it will not come back.
