In short, I'm biased to and use the Dead Man's Tale and even purchased the ornament immediately after getting it because I have a weak spot for lever-action rifles. I'm not the best with it, especially since I'm on PC using mouse + keyboard. However, I've noticed something now that I'm hip-firing with it a lot more and it's rather frustrating. I will also note that this has been a problem for a very long time in my experience (I first noticed it about 1-2 years ago).
The problem is simple but confusing: About half or more of all precision hits that land killing blows do not count as precision hits/kills and thus do not activate the perk or progress any bounties that may involve precision kills.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or is it somehow an isolated bug?
Off-Note: I've no clue how to share it, or if it's necessary, but I've got a short clip of exactly what I mean as a demonstration. I imagine other players have had this problem or at least hope that someone else has.
Update: The plot thickens. During a casual nightfall the ordeal, I noticed this problem happening as usual but it still counted as precision kills for score. Dead Man's Tale's exotic perk didn't activate, the text was gray, the damage was the same as a bodyshot, but it does the precision kill animations that enemies do and still counts as a precision kill during nightfall the ordeal.
I tested headshots at various ranges and found that they all yielded the same results as what I'm talking about. However, I noticed that the ones that don't register properly are always precision shots that are kinda iffy on the hitbox. Like, hitting a dreg in the neck and their head pops off but it's not a precision kill. However, aim a little higher and hit it in the face or forehead and you'll get a precision hit. Repetition led to these results and my best guess is some kind of latency or hit-box issue.

1 ReplyI've noticed this a few times over the years, usually when I play hip-fire only for fun. Sometimes crits aren't crits, though I'm not sure on the cause of it. My guess so far is that it's related to range, as I've noticed that crits usually count better when shooting up close. Maybe there's a range after which precision hits from the hip don't count as such anymore, to encourage aiming down sights or something. If you want to share a clip of it, best way to do this is to upload it to YouTube and then share the link to the video here.

1 ReplyJust like ads-ing... Your fire reticle grows as you shoot. Ie you may be aiming at the head, but as you fire, your hit circle grows and makes the final shot harder to hit with a precision blow. Do you have the catalyst for it?
