It looks like Bungie is going to nerf the stasis subclasses, starting with the shatterdive on hunters (according to the community managers). However, looking at past subclass tuning and nerfs make me believe that nothing good will come from this (let me explain):
To make stasis "balanced", Bungie would need to nerf the grenades, melee, specific fragments and integral parts of the stasis subclass that make them feel fantastic and unique. All of these changes would have to be made to make other light based subclasses competitive once again. All of these changes would have to be made to ensure that I just don't see stasis the majority of the time in the crucible.
Remember when Forsaken launched, and we got new amazing subclasses such as Nova Warp and Blade Barrage? Those subclasses went from being some of the best and most unique to the worst and most useless subclasses (in pvp AND pve) because of pvp nerfs. I think that something similar will happen with stasis, where it goes from being powerful and unique to obsolete.
True Vanguard mentioned how stasis could be banned from usage against fellow guardians inside of the vanguard lore, and that seems logical to me.
In conclusion, I don't want the stasis subclasses to lose their identity and power because of how dominant it is in pvp, but I don't want it to ruin pvp either. The removal of stasis in pvp would also make it so that Bungie wouldn't need to balance future fragments and such with pvp in mind.
They could fully express their creativity with stasis without having to worry about its impact on pvp.
PS: if anyone thinks "why don't we just remove pvp instead"...well, the crucible playlist still has hundreds of thousands of daily players. Removing their pvp scene instead of just removing stasis from pvp seems like an illogical, poorly thought out and unnecessary move.

3 RepliesStasis definitely needs to be removed from Survival and Trials.

Edited by Dano2point0: 1/8/2021 5:08:22 PMOnly a couple of specific things need fine tuning with Stasis such as Glacier grenade damage against Supers and frequency of Shatterdive. This whining to ban Stasis is -blam!-ing absurd. It is unfortunate that the Destiny community is collectively freaking out over Stasis in pvp because Bungie did an incredible job designing a new subclass and experience for players. Fine tuning classes using Aspects and core abilities is really a breakthrough in subclass design. Rather than adapt and overcome, it's wailing and gnashing of teeth for most of the D2 community. When the Bungie Nerfhammer has taken a turn on Stasis we will only have ourselves to blame for the lack of creativity and effort in future gameplay design and Bungie having to be extremely conservative in its decisions. Why would they take a chance on anything new that fundamentally changes our D2 experience?

2 RepliesMy chaos reach will blow through all your stasis Crystal's. If you freeze me I just use chaos reach to instantly get out and blow you all away. Oh no! A titan barricade! Chaos reach will blow through those no problem. 100 intellect and I can use it 4 to 5 times a match. Chaos is meta! Sorry I've just been using chaos reach alot lately and I love it haha.

Edited by Double07: 1/8/2021 2:17:15 PMSomeone on reddit told me that was a "bad idea", "PvP should receive no attention because it was bad anyway", and "Stasis is not unbalanced" so I said "Okay"

At the very least, they need to remove the suppression part of Stasis. Getting hit with a grenade while I'm in my super shouldn't end my super.

I don’t know. I hate dying by stasis. A lot. But I also find it hilarious when I think I’m about to win a fight. Or get away from almost dying then I just get frozen in mid air. Haha man I wish people would stop taking a game to serious. It’s a game it’s fun with all this new chaos. Just drink a beer or smoke a bowl and chill out

Removing their pvp scene instead of just removing stasis from pvp seems like an illogical, poorly thought out and unnecessary move.
Your post script just convinced me that removing is exactly what bungie should do. If bungie is not going to spend the time, money, and resources to balance and update light powers. If they are going to NERF stasis. If they are not going to make a ton of new guns, new maps, and incentives... Vault it. Vault PvP. Hey, I use to be able to enjoy control. Sometimes be tops on my team. Sometimes tops in the game. Now I am always, always, always fodder. I won't play anymore- so remove it. I don't want any resources going to it any longer. Vault it. It's become unplayable. (And, I'm slightly less than average... There has got to be half this game's population who have it worse than me in there.) It's uninviting. Unrewarding. Unbalanced. Uninspired. Seven years... We got control... It's not fun. Matchmaking is a joke. Every game ends in a mercy. There's no improvement capable in this enviorn. Vault it. Vault it. Vault PvP and give me back a D1 planet with oil slick pools of Sunkist.

Just need to separate pve and pvp

Instead of banning stasis, get good.

Edited by Vegan Superhero: 1/8/2021 3:30:52 PMI want to be clear, I'm not the biggest fan of pvp, and I only step in for pinnacles, or when I'm so bored I don't even want to play other games. I would be lying if I said I can't just have fun in it though. But as OP said, removing pvp is just dumb. Like it or not, there is a significant amount of the playerbase "hundreds of thousands" who extensively play PvP. Even if PvP is what people play when they're done all their weekly chores, its still what keeps people putting hours in on a weekly basis. By that logic, bungie might want to give a damn. Nerfs due to PvP "balencing" have ruined so many unique items and abilitys with bungies signature "well thought out and really smart nerfs" it only makes sense to implement systems to separate PvP from PvE. Its what people have been asking to have for seven -blam!-ing years, so for christ sakes bungie, JUST DO IT.
-
If your going to do that then you have to ban all the other supers at least in competitive gameplay.
-
Just make a seperate playlist where stasis is allowed, and ban it in all other playlists.
-
Edited by Da Gorseman: 1/8/2021 3:22:16 PMI agree because stasis is gonna take SO MUCH NERFING to be balanced in crucible, it wont even be as fun as it is in PvE rn. Its gonna have to be tinkered with so much its not gonna be "the same." Thb it'll prolly suck shit

Anything should be allowed in game if there are available counters. If they don't have an available counter, or if there is only one way to counter something, then it shouldn't have been added in the first place.

2 RepliesEdited by Oryx's Slimy Worm: 1/8/2021 8:33:23 AMStasis isnt the problem, hate to tell you. Sure its annoying, but its not that big of an issue.

Stasis is ok. Ban the cheaters!

4 Repliesno thanks. instead of trying to change this game, go play something else

Add new crucible modifiers/modes. Let players set the rules on a "private" match and allow public matchmaking to them and put a voting button at the end. They'd figure out quickly which modes people actually like. Light only, Dark only, Weapons only (primary ammo only, special ammo only, heavy ammo only, no ammo), etc. Or... they could finally just separate the PvP/PvE sandboxes and then balance.
-
12 RepliesNerf stasis and ill -blam!-ing quit. It doesn’t need to be nerfed. Shatterdive doesn’t need a nerf. The issue is, you can recharge the grenade too easily and too often. The problem lies within the grenade recharge itself. With that alone, it balances all classes. Knowing bungie they will think too hard about how to balance all of it that they will nerf too many things to the ground and the subclass wont be fun to use any more. -blam!-ING TIRED OF MEDIOCRE SUBCLASSES BECAUSE -blam!- WONT TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO COUNTER SHIT.
-
2 Replieslook at the comments only "Hunters" are against it xD

I second this and even have something to add. Later down the road, say year 6 likely make a darkness only PvP node called where all maps, modes, everything is ONLY balanced around the fact that everyone is only using Darkness. This would maintain the integrity of core PvP but also still allow for Stasis (and other dark subclasses) to have a PvP environment that caters to that. Just imagine a map that punishes people who spam any Stasis ability super hard but still allows for fair and moderate use of it. 2 massive long wide open lanes like with Equinox's one long lane with a building on either side with low ceilings. However, even in these buildings the lanes are long enough that super sliding Titans aren't a problem. And well low ceiling and long lanes also takes care of balancing Warlock. But this isn't to say Stasis would be difficult to use even on a map like this, it'd just be more reasonable because the environment is for it and it alone. Plus combine stuff like any special game modes and their rules/trait behavior and it really could make for something fun, balanced, and interesting lore wise. To further on this, Trials of the Nine would be able to come back and be the Dark alternative of Trials of Osiris. Lets have a dark Iron Banner, and so forth. And I do get the one issue with this that it would really split the playerbase but if you made this properly and balanced PvP right AND gave proper rewards for normal and Dark crucible you would have enough players all around to make this work. If you don't? Double loot in X crucible this week! Great, people will be there that week! But really you only need like 200k-250k in each crucible mode to have good matchmaking with the proper system cause it doesn't need to super populated all the time. And plus, we KNOW that there are A LOT of players who want to return and enjoy Destiny. If they see big meaningful changes like this and come back? They might stick around again and I'd say its in Bungie's best interests to try. I make this recommendation cause it is kind of sucky to just say even to Stasis, no PvP at all for you because well its a subclass we paid for so I want to use it everywhere but it just doesn't work in Crucible. Lets give it an alternative then.
-
The issue is not with Stasis, but on how big the maps are. All of the current maps were made with one ideal set up of 4-8 guardians at one point in D2. Sure there may be a couple that can handle 6-12 but that still does not fair better. Not only that, they were intended for the light base subclasses. Since the introduction of the dark base subclass, there have not been any new maps added. All the maps we are playing are basically claustrophobic in which is a haven for the Stasis subclass. Here is an example, could you imagine playing a crucible game on the map "Retribution" with stasis? No, it would be unplayable, shoot if it wasn't vaulted, and you could play it right, it would have shown the flaws of BL for not having crucible maps that balance out the Stasis subclass.

Or tune it for PvP but leave it as is for PvE Wait no, thats too much for bungie
