It looks like Bungie is going to nerf the stasis subclasses, starting with the shatterdive on hunters (according to the community managers). However, looking at past subclass tuning and nerfs make me believe that nothing good will come from this (let me explain):
To make stasis "balanced", Bungie would need to nerf the grenades, melee, specific fragments and integral parts of the stasis subclass that make them feel fantastic and unique. All of these changes would have to be made to make other light based subclasses competitive once again. All of these changes would have to be made to ensure that I just don't see stasis the majority of the time in the crucible.
Remember when Forsaken launched, and we got new amazing subclasses such as Nova Warp and Blade Barrage? Those subclasses went from being some of the best and most unique to the worst and most useless subclasses (in pvp AND pve) because of pvp nerfs. I think that something similar will happen with stasis, where it goes from being powerful and unique to obsolete.
True Vanguard mentioned how stasis could be banned from usage against fellow guardians inside of the vanguard lore, and that seems logical to me.
In conclusion, I don't want the stasis subclasses to lose their identity and power because of how dominant it is in pvp, but I don't want it to ruin pvp either. The removal of stasis in pvp would also make it so that Bungie wouldn't need to balance future fragments and such with pvp in mind.
They could fully express their creativity with stasis without having to worry about its impact on pvp.
PS: if anyone thinks "why don't we just remove pvp instead"...well, the crucible playlist still has hundreds of thousands of daily players. Removing their pvp scene instead of just removing stasis from pvp seems like an illogical, poorly thought out and unnecessary move.

4 RepliesI agree 100%. Stasis has NO business in crucible. When you see practically every single guardian running it, that is a good indicator of how broken it is in pvp. It is an absolute crutch, requires no skill to freeze someone and then kill them when they are frozen as their is absolutely no time for you to get out of it before you get killed. It is absolute trash in pvp.

Stasis is killing the game. One little nerf per season isn’t gonna fix it. What they need to do is take it out of crucible, rework it, actually play test it this time, then re release it. If they don’t do it that way crucible is going to be unplayable for seasons to come

1 ReplyHonestly? I see another option. Stasis can stay, but remove ALL stopping capabilities of it that's it. The number one issue I see, by far, myself included, is people just pissed off at the stupid decision to make an ability that makes you 100% helpless. I swear they stated they dropped freezing time from 5 seconds to 2 seconds in Crucible too, and if they did that's a lie, as the counter shows in every match. People aren't enraged by stasis itself, just the stopping capabilities, so that's all that needs to be removed. I don't think it would need to go beyond that, and there's only one way to find out, but I doubt Bungie will take any consideration to this matter at all, and just let it continue. We'll see I guess.

No. Stasis just be adjusted slightly and more importantly the other sub classes brought up to be more effective. Stasis is great and Destiny has never been about excluding certain aspects from parts of the game. The whole idea is to take your character and loot through raids, nightfalls, iron banner, trials, gambit etc. Removing stasis from crucible would fundamentally go against everything the game stands for.

Stasis has problems, and the number one is the feeling of being absolutely useless because you get frozen. Everything that freezes should only slow you in PVP, excluding stasis supers. Stasis also makes most all Titans literally useless except Bubble. Other than that, anything Titans can do, stasis can do better.

Unless they can rework stasis, I'm all for removing it fun pvp. My wife and I just returned to this game to give it another shot and she's already called it quits because of stasis. It never feels good to have a mechanic in a game that takes control away from the player completely, and forces them to watch helplessly as they're taunted and executed with no way to fight back. There is no reacting to abilities that can freeze you from around corners and through walls. And when there's a majority of the other team running stasis, there's no getting away from it. And it seems like every engagement someone has an available ability to freeze you with. The vast majority of people that are ok with it are likely those that are enjoying abusing this broken subclass and don't care about how it's ruining the game for others and causing returning players to quit outright. TLDR version: Stasis was a cool idea, and it's fine in PvE. But as it is, it has no place in pvp.

1 ReplyIf you're going to introduce an ability or group of abilities that strip away a players ability to react then the cost should be high to use those abilities and the means by which one can react to them should go beyond "just don't get hit lmao". I never had an issue with the Nightstalker because the wombo combo required you to use your grenade and melee and the super was a super, and it wasn't really a team wiper in the was a Silence and Squall can be, just to use it as an an example. I know Stasis is the new hotness, but in PvP it could use a bit of tuning.

I agree with most of what you've said but I think banning stasis in pvp we ruin it abit. I for one don't abuse shatterdive however I enjoy the abilities. I think that making a playing that does not evolve stasis would be alot better as it would still allow people that enjoy using stasis in pvp to continue using it without it being band or becoming shit
