Penumbral Blast range nerf was overkill

Reduced the super duration by about 6 seconds? Sure no problem I can live with that. Reduced Penumbra Blast speed by 20%? Not the worst nerf they could have given it. Reduced range from 28 meters to 16 meters? (40% range reduction) Borderline butchered a freezing ability for PvE content. Essentially you have nerfed a melee ability making it less viable for endgame PvE content. Another result of a PvP nerf affecting PvE. The super and subclass as a whole will be fine I think. But bungo, you done messed up with this one. The least you could do is bump the range up to something like 20 meters.

    There are a lot of melee abilities that are melee-range - and they're for the most part fine. And you're complaining that you can't freeze someone solid that's more than 16 meters away?

        • Yeah, the nerf to penumbra blast in general sucks. I really don't like stasis all that much but the melee attack was at least pretty cool.

          • I tried to complete a bounty for 20 Stasis kills on Europa. I aimed my melee at a Dreg that was barely arm's length away. The ice ball literally poofed into nothing right in front of its face. Then it proceeded to stab me in the face with a dagger as I stood uselessly in the snow for 5 minutes waiting for my abilities to regenerate. This nerf should not have been implemented in PVE at all, period.

            • Ok so it doesn't have to freeze past 16m but it also shouldn't just vanish entirely. Maybe remove the ability to freeze from that distance & just cause damage instead like other projectile melees?

            • The other nerfs were certainly warranted alright. The melee range nerf is way over the top. They already hit the speed and hit box, leave the range as it was.

            • They should just make it work like the other ranged melees on warlock. Ball lightning and celestial fire both proc in close quarters.

              • Speed, super, and tracker speed? Sure, nerf it. Range? Makes Mele pretty lame. Can't hit freeze up close, and can't hit them too far away. This got me killed more than once yesterday trying to get used to it.

              • Yep, I’m honestly fine with all the changes but the range change? ABSOLUTELY terrible. The slower speed and less freeze time is honestly all it needed, they should’ve applied just those and seen how good it was first before making further changes. It’s been butchered in PvE and that right there is my biggest issue, IF they REALLY wanted to nerf it change then PLEASE on have it apply to PvP

                It was definitely overkill. They need to give us that range back, and opt for balancing it with a windup animation like they did to Weighted Knife.

                • It’s a melee ability ability. Be thankful it has any range. It’s basically a free win during any 1v1 a warlock is loosing. No counter at all. Comp was ruined and still had a way to go but balance warlocks was a good start.

                  • Is a gamble, if you're too close the melee would likely suck you in to slap the enemy like if it was a hunter trying to throw smoke while enemies are too close, if you're too far, freezing projectile would break before hitting the target... 🙄

                  • I agree for pve it got over nerfed. For pvp it needed it and i run stasis on my lock. It was cheesy as hell man.

                      • The range was already kinda short on the melee attack. Now, you’re going to have to be right up in their faces. Makes me wonder if we’ll have trouble with accidentally doing a regular melee instead of the melee ability if we have to get that close. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the other changes too. It’s so fun to use in PvE and I feel this is just going to ruin that fun.

                            • Yeah the range hit was too much. I’d say nerf range by 4m. Nerf speed by 20% to make it more counterable and reactable at those longer ranges. Freeze duration could be like 2 seconds instead of the 1. Something. Super nerf was good. Before I get hate. 1. Warlock stasis was overtuned. 2. May have been hit toooo hard time will tell 3. Hope we get some fine tuning because this nerf went all out now we need some small tweaks 4. Let’s give bungie some credit though they have been patching and merging and disabling things so fast this season and have been showing an interest in PvP related changes quickly 👍
