If you were confused as about sunsetting(or its purpose), just consider "this mod is fragile.."

A ghost mod. That grants a slight XP boost. Something that has been part of ghosts since D2 launched, has a time limit. So what, after season 15, there won't be an XP bonus mod? Or a particular currency mod? On a single use item? That will be acquired via RNG? OR Will you just have to grind them up again? Now, ok. It's a mod for a ghost, who cares, right? Sure, but the issue isn't really the mod. The issue is this idea of Bungie CONSTANTLY trying to curate what we do and do not use, for how long, and how much. The question is why? Here is an example. This past week I was running the Legend nightfall with friends. I picked the entirely wrong loadout, and it made it way more difficult than it should have been. So afterwards I started looking at my gear, and my currency reserves and created a load out, set to my tastes and I masterworked all of the gear. The main reason I hadn't done this to that point, was because I didn't really see the value. What do I really get for 3 more energy levels. Well, once I hit 10 slots, I found myself WAY more interested in tweaking things. In setting up specific combinations. It added another dimension to my character. One, that with time, COULD have been more enjoyable. Except not really. See I am not going to continuously farm up materials JUST to be able to experiment more freely. Why? Because that should be the norm. Unlocking the energy levels and masterwork should be WAY cheaper, but slotting the high end mods? THAT should be where the cost comes from. I should be free to experiment with anything, but have to WORK for the top tier combinations. That is both engaging, AND rewarding. Which brings me back to the ghost mods. Why make this more complicated than need be? Make them RNG. Make them single use. THAT'S ENOUGH. They don't need a time limit, or some crazy cost for normal day to day bonuses. These systems should encourage experimentation. Not place barriers in front of it. BALANCE the game. Don't curate it. A 600 RPM AR is a 600 RPM AR. There is no need to control WHICH 600 RPM AR we like to use. Or to curate armor that has the same 6 stats. ZERO reason. In Nov, when the power cap raises, for many pieces of gear, the inability to infuse it further will be the ONLY reason to not use it. Just like after season 15, that would be the ONLY reason to not use the XP boost mod. Sorry, but that is not good enough. Not when the potential of the system is the type of customization and experimentation is as varied as it is currently. Why is the "new" 600 RPM AR a better choice? Why is the season 15 XP mod worth slotting? "It's expired", is a shitty way to engage players. It is lazy. It is a means of producing as little content as possible by simply re-using what exists. The irony here is that making these things more accessible. By encouraging more attachment and experimentation, they wouldn't have nearly the problems of engagement. People would, like in D1, be constantly tweaking their gear. They would naturally gravitate towards that "new" stuff. THEY ARE SUNSETTING A 12% XP BOOST. Think of how minimal of a buff that is. Think about it being a staple of normal ghost hunting. And ultimately think about how that represents a POINTLESS level of micro-management. Anyone who plays normally has NO issue leveling the artifact. It's a nice little extra, nothing more. Yet someone at Bungie felt the need to CURATE it. To control access to something meaningless. That speaks volumes about the design philosophy, and it is a prime example of just how ridiculous these changes actually are.

To think All of this sunsetting fomo crap happened because they can't be bothered to put some actual effort into designing something worthwhile Ever since they started working on their next big cash cow of a game (matter) all d2 does now is get shafted again and again what a big surprise This is probably not the end of it either next they'll be sunsetting exotics and adding mods to sparrows and ships

    • Still grinding away at that axe. Destiny is a loot game. All loot games have to retire power on some fashion. Bungie is expanding the range of power the game has to offer to include our ghosts. And expanding the loot pool to include mods for those ghosts. They are giving us the power to customize these ghosts . They are not going to sell that power through Evereverse. AS A RESULT BUNGIE HAS TO RETIRE THAt POWER TO AVOID CREATING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THESE GHOSTS THAT YHEU DID WITH WEAPONS. So for once Bungie is playing by the rules of loot games and AVOIDING problems by designing systems properly instead of bumbling into them and then trying to figure out how to fix it later. Loot games are about the chase and always moving forward to the new stuff. If this is unacceptable to you for The Love if God, do yourself and the rest of us and go play a game that will give you want you want. Because this game is t going to do it, and no amount of complaining by you will change this. Bungie retooled their entire company around this, and a few angry voices in social media wont change it. THIS Bungie isn’t going to cave to the pressure, so you are wasting your time.

They need to sell to another studio that has passion and wants to make a good product. What have they done lately? Taking half the game out, sunsetting, no content.. like ok. It’s a shame anthem was such a turd. Could you imagine a focused bungie that was actively trying to impress us? No competition leads to this mess.

      • You give a lot, solid work you put in to it. I'm just gonna comment on the point you made about the investment to masterwork and how nice it is to be able to customize at 10 energy. I think you fix this (a little) if you remove the elements from armor. I can get a solid stat roll, but half the perks on my arms are locked because I got arc and I need solar or I need void for the specific mod. Drop those requirements completely and I would be way more willing to masterwork something.

Bungie is mastering the business of delivering the flavor of a game. You can smell it, touch it, taste it but as soon as you start to like it, they remove that flavor from your reach. Bungie likes to apply a huge amount of negative reinforcement on their players and that approach never works well.

              • They're managed to make the game almost unplayable. Hundreds upon hundreds of mods that have sunset before many of us have been able to find uses for once. Min-maxxed armor that us Sunsetting just after finding it. Costs to change 'elemental' restrictions on mw exotics so high you can never do it. Maybe I'd like to experiment with Pulse targeting on that "void" (don't laugh) helmet and then try something else in the next match or want to mix say Handcannon & pulse loaders, etc, etc - forget it unless you have 100s upon 100s of golf balls to burn through. Rarest of rare loot sunset before you can enjoy. Some of the most horrendous super-grinds in any game for loot that is..."fragile". It doesn't work. They care not. It's now a silly, very expensive, foundationally dysfunctional party game.

                • The purpose of Sunsetting is to spit in the faces of all the people who dumped all this time, effort, frustration (probably losses via broken controllers due to raging in crucible etc) into all the Guns and Pinnacles Weapons that we grinded so hard for. Same with Vaulting Content, the purpose of it is to spit in the faces of all the people who spent over $200+ dollars on all this Content we bought that is being removed. Bungie is all about spitting in our faces.

                  • Bro if you play the game sun setting is good. If you don’t play the game on the surface sun setting looks bad but when you start to find new guns to use you will see it is good. This is a loot based game and for everyone to just use the same mt/revoker makes it old and boring. It’s not that you can’t use new guns already it’s just the majority of the community is too lazy so they are being forced to actually get new guns to be powerful not just infuse the same sh!t. Bungee obviously did their research and I think it will engage more of the casual playerbase along with the high end players. Most of the people complaining have trouble letting things go and I’ve even seen people just asking for a D3 instead of sunsetting. That makes no sense!

I just think sunsetting goes against what destiny has been for so long. Even IF the system is beneficial, that's changing the game in a way most players are not used to in DESTINY and there's no guarantee that it will make up for what we're LOSING. The uncertainty is overshadowing my enjoyment of the game and it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to want to play it.

                      • I have said it before, but in case anyone finds this of worth, this is why I stopped playing and moved to warframe, still come back to the foruns once in a while to see if there is hope, but so far not the case: Since the day 1 of this season, when I saw the power cap on weapons and that I would need to regrind the same weapons like gnawing hunger and the iron banner ones even though I already have the desired rolls, I logged off and couldn't find any reason to sink a single second of my time back in. I migrated to warframe, which is surprisingly a very fun game, even though its shooting mechanics are inferior to destiny (But when it comes to movement mechanics warframe is the superior one) simply because any weapon I get is relevant forever meaning my effort and time is respected. This is the first season I could not bother to get the pass and I don't think I will be returning since grinding for desired rolls and testing new builds was all I did in destiny. I am not raging but very sad and disappointed in bungie for making such a stupid decision that hurt most of its core player-base. I know that an opinion post like this is unlikely to change anything but I want to leave it here anyway because maybe, just maybe, if enough players do it it may actually make the damm "feedback" name in this forum be worth something. I am also aware some core defenders of the sunsetting will likely lash out here, but I am mature enough to not care. I was a collector player who played for fun and as a hobby and is my belief that no matter the type of player you are (PVP sweat, intense raider, collector, casual, fashionista, etc...) you should be able to play the game how you want it and sunsetting makes this impossible. I cannot play my favorite activities (Gambit prime, raids and nightfalls) how I want anymore, neither will the pvp sweats or the intense raiders. I find sunsetting to be just a lazy solution and the easy way for bungie and not the players. I can only hope they go back on it before the damage is done, but I am realistic enough to know that its unlikely, hence I migrated my playtime to other games. I wish gear retirement gets removed because I honestly enjoy destiny and would like to return, but if thats not the case, best of luck and fun to all who remain.

I would be willing to put more time into this game if things weren't so over calculated to benefit fit this company because of their lack of effort creating a decent game. Creating content that keeps players actually engaged seems to be a major issue with this company that they have relied on grind time and controlling how the player plays the game the way they want them too. It took them 3 years just to make the ghost more useful, but is it really going to be worth the time and effort put into these ghosts looking for mods and masterwork them knowing stats are rigged? I don't care if I can keep mods for a year knowing most from what I have seen really don't change anything when I'm not using them. All this is for me is just another added waste of time to keep the player playing by grinding and nothing else. XP means nothing to me knowing this company loves to throttle XP among other things in the game.

Experimenting with combinations more freely? It'd be completely pointless even if it was the norm. This shitshow has designed its loot system so that anything you put on for PvE has an effect on basically nothing at large. So because there's no real permanence to anything even down to subclasses and the weapons players can use, where's the game givin' me objective purpose here design-wise? The few moments where you and whoever you're playing with (team of 3 or 6) have to put on the combinations assembled by the most bullshit gear in the loot pile. Why? So whatever we're doing doesn't take long enough for all of us to slam our heads against the wall hard enough to cause lethal trauma. Wow. Splendid design chops there, Bungo. Other than those, pretty much whatever you want to put on is as interchangeable as a lightbulb. It's the complete illusion of depth. Interacting with Destiny's loot system is like goin' fishing in a puddle with the longest line you can bring. But Bungo should still make it like ya said. Maybe it'll make people realize its meaninglessness faster! It ain't gonna happen though. Why do ya think they have it that way? They have to keep it the way it is, else the number of hours spent in-game goes down.

                          • 😂Cosmo replied to me when I called it a “nerf” as having to use resources, season mods will become redundant, certain perk combinations will be impossible ...it is a nerf to me. All for a cosmetic 2.0 and of course the inevitable glowing transmog ghost packs sold through Eververse .

                            • It’s probably just going to be some mods. Like the top end ones. This way they can “reevaluate” in a year and not feel locked in. Not that that has stopped them from removing stuff before. Or so that they can keep adding them as rewards in pinnacle level activities. Like Nightfalls, Raids, Dungeons, multi-tiered public events, and IB. I’m not gonna freak out yet. It will all depend on what mods we have by default, how I have to earn mods, and the overall level of customization. At least this means I can finally use a ghost I’ve always liked the look of but hated the perks.
