A suggestion on Sunsetting armor after watching Aztecross video

Note: I posted this on Reddit, but wanted to do so here since it’s more likely to be seen. I agree with everything in Aztecross’s video, but wanted to provide some constructive feedback for the devs. This will cover the Sunsetting of armor. This seems like a more contentious topic in the community, especially for me, whereas I think Aztecross did a good job covering his issues with reissuing weapons and I agree with him on that topic. For the armor Sunsetting, what if Bungie changed the way armor stats worked? Say a piece of armor drops, but all of it’s stats are set to 0, then you use materials to upgrade armor for the stats you want. You’ll upgrade them in increments of 10, so 10 int, 20 int, 10 recovery, etc. maybe a cap of 50 points on an armor piece. Then with fully master worked armor it’ll get every stat to base 10. You’ll end up with 10 mobility, 10 resilience, 100 recovery, 30 discipline, 100 intellect, 10 strength. I think that math checks out, if I’m describing it the way I’m thinking it. You obviously don’t have to follow this exact build, but I think this would be the popular PvP one. I also don’t think this model is perfect, tuning is obviously part of design, but I think that getting 3 or 4 stats to 100 should only be possible through the use of mods. Along with this, if you upgrade a column, you can’t change it back, so you’ll set up your one armor set one way, another set another way, but you have control over the armor stats. This means that you can get your perfect builds earlier in the season and have time to play with them, but you’ll still grind for armor if you want to make a different build. Now, if your upgrading your armor more often, you’ll need more materials. My suggested change here is that enhancement prisms are a guaranteed drop from completing any powerful reward weekly and ascendant shards are guaranteed from any pinnacle weekly. Hopefully some of you, and Aztecross himself, likes this idea. Please keep the conversation going. Let’s here some ideas. Bungie needs feedback, so let’s give them something constructive to use.

No one cares what these flip flopping content creators say. Just a couple months ago they were all supporting it and ignoring or strawmanning criticisms of it, now they realize all the critical predictions are true and are backpeddaling to cater to their audiences obvious disappointment. Listening to people who play the game all day is what got us here in the first place. In fact a large content creator who will remain unnamed actually suggested gear retirement only a few weeks before they actually decided to implement it. Stop amplifying these fair weather content creators.

    • I don't agree with this. The option for 0 in a stat should exist. I don't care for mobility or intellect as I did in D1. Masterworking should allow you to invest all 12 masterwork point into a singular stat. Armor should drop with a stat point max, between 55-70. You should also be allowed to allocate those point however you please the first time, Masterworking would allow you to change whenever and however many times you want. Also, no affinities, remove that.

    • Ironically, this sounds like the first iteration of mods on armor, just more slots and allocation to something otherwise completely empty

    • Armor set bonuses should come back too.

    • Well not bad idea, definitely better than bungies, at least you could level what you want, even if it costs much materials. You can choose the way you want to play and dont need to hope for the right drop. Atm its super frustrating if you need 1 more stat point for the next level (like you are at 59 and at 60 you are level 6, guess you understand) your version would prevent that waste of points where you dont need them.
