Why is the most basic weapon meta in pvp?

IMO I feel like the most basic weapon the Auto Rifle should not be meta, I mean sure it's great for those who don't know any other of the of the archetypes or are brand new to the game but they are auto rifles they are so boring to use and fight against, Unlike something from a hand cannon or a scout rifle or even a bow there are some sort of skill attached to these weapons I just don't see from auto's, but in no way should autos be nerfed as they have contenders like most pulse rifles and 150 hand cannons and I can't really say much about scouts but they can out range them so they are decent but it doesn't help that auto rifles can fight all weapons I just listed above in their respected ranges (excluding scout rifles and bows) but it doesn't help that most maps are medium to short range so they can just fight everything anyway. I know we just got out of a hand cannon/shotgun meta but i'd rather get 3 tapped by a guy whos peak shooting with a hand cannon than somebody mindlessly holding down trigger pre-firing down every lane they see it's just not fun, I can't even enjoy quick play anymore without raging do to this mind numbing nonsense, And it doesn't even get better in game modes that are supposed to be inhabited by skilled players y'know comp and trials, It's just filled with no skill and if there is skill I have yet to see it, and it's just disappointing to say the least. Cheers to another 3 months of auto rifles.

  • I knew I wasn't the only one out there who thought this. It's so frustrating trying to use a hand cannon against autos. Mindless beaming vs good movement skills, pacing your shots, counting bullets, peek shooting, timing shots with your strafe. Hand cannon meta was way more skillful than this garbage.

  • This. It’s not fun. I wasn’t a fan of hand cannons either but it wasn’t annoying to die to them. Something about autos just irk me. Especially suros and GH

  • I think the problem is less about autos being good and more about too many weapon types being lackluster in PvP. Scouts are lacking, bows are lacking, low RoF HC's are lacking...

    • Because it’s time for auto’s to get their time in the sun. We’ve had years of handcannons being meta, short time for a ridiculous smg, and even shorter for pulses. Autos have been meh this whole game and I hope they finally give scouts their proper respect because those are terrible too. It’s easy to stay out of ar range but try that with a handcannon smh

        • Look at any first-person shooter and a Auto rifle is typically what most people will run. it's just a very well-rounded weapon in most cases good for short to medium range engagements.

        • It was over 2 years of a HC meta, which was boring. HC are still in the meta. Give other guns a turn.

                • Because they switch it up. Why have one meta forever? They change the meta so people try to get new rolls or maybe new powerful loot that's just been introduced. It's a looter shooter, if they only have one meta, what's making you play to get more cool guns? Auto rifles aren't that hard to fight against. They need you to stand in the open for the quickest time to kill. So if you can make them miss by shooting them or by hiding behind something you have the advantage.

                  • It’s really been hard for Bungie to find a balance for primaries. I’d love to one day see scouts, auto’s, HC’s, and Pulses on the same level. But it seems like every time auto rifles drop it’s back to the handcanons only so I really hope when they make changes again it doesn’t end up just cycling back to only HC’s

                    • HCs are completely unusable now, and sidearms are the only other primary I’d consider using in crucible- 600 RPM autos are too powerful and too easy to use.
