Sunsetting armor is pointless, here is why:

You stated that you dont want us to infuse the new armor into our old armor but you will let us Transmog our old armor onto the new armor..... Now read that again slowly, then explain to me how this is different. Its not... it's pretty much the exact same thing. We will use materials we grinded for to infuse it to a higher lever or we will use materials we grinded for to Transmog old armor appearance onto the new higher level armor. 0+1=1 vs 1+0=1 Different strategy, same outcome. It's the exact same principle isn't it? If you create interesting gear and give it decent base stat rolls we will use it. If you think I'm going to be excited about getting a 70-80 max stat rolled pair of boots to replace my 93 stat rolled (masterworked and modded) Righteous boots you are probably smoking something pretty good. I have 64 pieces of legendary armor that are getting sunsetted soon. The masterwork economy is atrocious. Several thousand hours rendered pointless. Dismantle it for a 50% loss is a kick to the bean bag

  • And this is why I should not have ever masterworked my gear

    •
Different strategy, same outcome.
No. The planned improvement for ornaments is specifically so that players can retain a specific look they like, while they change out their actual armour stats and mods over the months/years. Cosmetics =/= gameplay Capping armour levels is slowly push out specific armour mod sets from the endgame, such as Armament mods, Charged with Light, and these recent Warmind Cells. 'Sunsetting armour' is essentially in place so that two or three years down the line, the design team doesn't need to take Warmind Cells into account when designing an encounter. Seasonal mod slots as they exist are not a form of 'sunsetting' because a player can just equip the armour at level. I could essentially just slap on three pieces of armour and have a decently functioning Cell loadout that can absolutely slap Minions and debuff Majors. Baked into my armour, regardless of whether I'm still using Seraph weapons. Infusion Caps are the solution to the problem that comes with adding things like this Warmind Cell mechanic. It is obnoxiously potent, and can't stay around forever, so infusion caps allow the team to basically ignore the mechanic when designing activities.

      • It doesn't matter how many posts are created about this, how many upvotes or how many reply agreeing. This company has been set in their ways especially since Activision is gone to play how they want you to play. I'm just going to sit back and watch another base game/CoO player base drop off because this company has it all under control. They know what's best for the player base sticking a skeleton crew on a game that is way more than they can handle while making sure their mobile game app company is well taken care of. You know, because your paying customers are not that important that stuck around for almost 6 years.

        • You forget seasonal mod slots. Which in a way has already created armor sunsetting to a small degree. The new system sounds like there is less to chase. But we can grind out old gear we want to use. This part is good. 1 new armor set to collect good rolls on. They create new ornaments to sell or earn. We grind out what old looks we like. This loss of materials used on old armor is quite disrespectful though.

          • Pointless for us, very much so. But the point for them is to artificially extend the playtime with as little work as possible. It's a sad state of affairs. You have grinded much more than me on D2 and I can imagine the salt will be flowing.

          • They need to severely reduce the cost of masterworking gear to alleviate some of this. We grinded to have fully masterworked sets...now we'll have to do it all again year after year just to put the same old perks on new armor. Besides a few stand out seasonal mods being "removed"...sunsetting armor creates more problems than good.

          • The idea is that players will eventually not give a darn about new armor stats because eventually we will get the stat rolls we care about, with the only reason than being to care about new armor would be 'looks', which not every gives a rat's butt about. This results in players not participating in an aspect of the looter shooter for new gear, so then why bother with new gear at that point and just make it all skins? Sunsetting for armor has a reason, but lets be honest, there are some valid criticisms that need to be addressed. 1) 2 Seasons feels too short. Make it a year like weapons. 2) Make more end game activities more rewarding to do for masterworking armor to make it less painful. 3) Improve stat roll numbers for end game and have the be guarenteed to be at least lets say 60+ minimum on drops. Getting armor should not be as painful as it is currently, it must be improved for sunsetting armor to even happen.

Honestly think they are doing it strictly to retire mods like Powerful friends and maybe the reload perks, since they are nerfing all reloading, and nothing more. No reason otherwise I can think of That and all that luxurious Silver for their Transmog system.

            • One reason would be that they want to sunset mods like armaments. I get your point though.

              • Sunsetting armor is pointless as you stated, but sunsetting weapons is also pointless. As you explained armor doesn't change stats mean very little in this game outside of PVP so the armor that we grinded for to get the perfect stats for PVP, is going to be useless now. It takes 2 seasons to get all the armor paces with the stats that fit with what you want with the 60 + stats per armor piece. They just don't want to give content but they want us to play the same amount as before so that is why they are sunsetting armor. Now weapons same shit, if they want to introduce new perks on the weapons why can't they do it without sunsetting? Is there any logical sense for them not to? No there isn't they just don't want to create more content as in game content that would be sufficient enough to take up our time so the grind for these "new" weapons with new perks will take up most of our time while they don't give us anything meaningful in game content. They are lessening the amount of work they have to do while they say "look at what we gave you". They think we are dumb , Bungie we aren't dumb you are just lazy and that is it. We understand you can't make new meshes, new textures all the time, there is limited amount of resources your target systems have, which are consoles, you can't make new planets or celestial objects and what not cause there are limited resources again which are consoles. But you can use the same assets and create new levels, new missions, in depth story, new game modes to keep the game fresh. Look you reused the moon assets from D1 to D2, just do it with EDZ, Titan, etc from year one of D2!

                • Are you not looking forward to new loot. I mean it’s going to happen no matter what. So just start breaking that stuff down for the materials and move on.

Also if armor sunsetting is to take away mods then that point doesn’t work either, mods will still be available on last wish and gos armor

                  • so you really don't see the difference in not being able to carry the gear forward and changing the APPEARANCE of the new gear to look like your favorite piece....... no wonder a you've been on your soapbox for a couple of weeks...to no avail, it's still going to happen...

                    • If this is how you feel. Have a poll running and you may as well vote. Kinda ironically, even with all the hate on the forums, it still shows that roughly 50% of players are going to keep playing regardless of sunsetting. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/256051535?sort=0&page=0

                      • the difference is we won't be able to use powerful friends and other really awesome mods like the quickdraw one on the new armor.

                      • Apparently, the difference is that armor infusion, unlike style transmog, adds power, which contributes to power creep ... 🙄
