Bungie, sometimes you hit the mark on balance changes (the latest OEM nerf), and other times you really miss the mark (sniper rifle nerfs). Anyhow, I'm here to talk about Anteus Wards (again). The Wards have always been a strong option, but unfortunately the viability of the Wards suffered due to inconsistencies and bugs. After the buff, they are far stronger, easier to use, and more valuable than wormhusk ever was with the Undying Arc Battery mod. In short, they're way OP.
I'm hoping that, since one of your so highly valued streamers has complained about them... maybe you'll listen. Please, be humble. Revert the removal of chip damage, then fix the bugs with Anteus's chip/tick damage (e.g. randomly killing you if you pick up a burn while sliding). Before, a player would need perfect time and reflexes (....*clears throat* skill) to make use of the invincible slide. Their only enemy was inconsistency (your problem to fix). Dying to an Anteus Ward-bearing Titan/WInning a PvP duel using the wards as a Titan was respectable...now it's ridiculously frustrating.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this made it's way into the final patch release and came up with a few potential reasons (personal thoughts in spoilers):
1) You tried to fix the bugginess of Anteus, but never actually play tested them.
This one's a little odd to me... Removing all tick damage to address the tick damage bugs with Anteus seems lazy to me. There's no way that anyone who plays D2 PvP could playtest this in 3 games or just test this at a minor level and not realize how phenomenally broken these could be. If someone did indeed play test this with other people, then you really need to rework your testing process. Because being able to win 1v1's at a number of ranges, block melees and super abilities, and steal supers while gaining super on any slide is more stupid than HHSN ever could have been.
2a) You tried to "compensate" for the OEM nerfs....
OEM completely overshadowed all other Titan PvP Exotics because they were broken. They completely invalidated Mask of the Quiet one while also giving you everything you could ever want in PvP. Right now, they're still a top tier PvP exotic... but they're not broken. If you realized this, you would know that Dunemarchers and Anteus were great options even before you nerfed OEM.
2b) ...by artificially forcing a Titan Exotic meta shift.
If this is true, I take serious issue with this philosophy. You promised that D2 under your total control would be a 'play your way' style game. You can achieve this by balancing the sandbox to a reasonable standard, knowing that perfect balance is unrealistic, while also giving players multiple viable options to play with. You don't have to overbuff a weapon/exotic to broken levels just to force people away from an exotic that isn't even broken anymore. People will do that themselves, especially once streamers and youtubers start unveiling alternate play options to the public.
Side note: It seems like you did the same with snipers. You nerfed a perfectly viable and balanced play option to encourage people to play an underperforming, weaker, and unviable close range option. That was not at all acceptable and resulted in us feeling like we have fewer good options to bring into higher level content. That's not play your way and not fun. Think, Swords are much better now in higher level.. not because you nerfed snipers but because you buffed them to compensate for close range risk via Passive Guard. Basically, you gave them what most close range specials need... survivability perks.
3) Someone on your balance team loves the hell out of Titans to the point of imbalancing the game.
Realistically, it doesn't seem like Hunters, and especially Warlocks, get the same nerf-hesitance and buff-confidence as Titans. Again, it took you forever to bring Bottom Tree Striker, and OEM. Finally, once you did, you brought up Anteus and Dunemarchers to broken levels. It's like you want only Titans to have something broken. (Yes, I know Hunter Mobility is broken.. but I'd deal with that over the new invincibility, super-generating, no cool down, damage reflecting wards any day)
Antaeus Wards are a problem but at the same time Titans kinda need it right now due to having a pretty bad neutral game. I say buff the overall Titan neutral game and nerf Antaeus Wards. That way the wards aren’t an issue and Titans have a better experience overall.

3 RepliesI agree that it should still give a percentage of chip damage for sure but at the same time they add that back they should also add chip damage to both the sentinel shield block as well as the whirlwind guard
