• So let me get this right, the great idea you have to move the game forward.... Is to revert back to the system that everyone hated. Giving us great loot, then make it worthless so we can go after the new "great loot"... Then make that worthless so we can use the "new New loot"... Then make the "new New loot" worthless so we can repeat it for the "new New New loot".... Seriously you can't come up with any other reason we may want to get new stuff unless old stuff is made useless. And that fact we have already been through this and after all the feedback and work that went into moving away from that, you want to go backwards. It's is beyond insanity, but crazy as it is I guess we will just roll with it. What a joke though

    • Wow, I can’t believe a company could possible be this tone deaf. Seriously, make our legendary weapons useless every 3 seasons? That’s a severe step backwards. “No more FOMO”.... sure Bungie, I’ll believe it when I see it....

      • "Where can destiny go" I don't know, but d2 is starting to look under light, better put it on the shelf forever like all of my gear you guys want to annihilate. I'm not happy with how you guys want to "improve the game." How does the dev team want to avoid destroying our vaults like they did with d2 going from d1...but then think making our gear become worthless over time is a good idea? I like my gear I spent time earning, but now it's going to be worthless? You can send the dev team some of these (🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕) if they think I'm going to create good memories with gear I HAD to use because they made me involuntarily ditch my favorite gear. You guys not only suck at allowing us to play how we want, but you don't even seem to know what you yourselves want as every season it changes. Please get your act together. I don't want the game to suck beyond comparison because of these moronic decisions the bungie team keeps making.

I actually exited for these changes. I’m interested to see how they are implemented and I’m super excited for the weapon change.

This game is in such an awkward place right now. How do you make new weapons worth chasing without making the game far too easy or op in crucible. For gear to be worth chasing it needs to be better than what we currently have, but how do you make weapons better than not forgotten/spare rations etc..... you cant nerf these without the community complaining and putting a cap on them will cause even more of an uproar. You guys have made a rod for your own backs. You made legendaries drop far too easy from the get go. As such only god rolls matter and most legendaries mean nothing. During d1 yr1 every legendary drop felt good and even normal rolls were used. And exotic drops were truly awesome. I cant think of a way to resolve this issue without upsetting the community. Maybe a new rarity band between legendary and exotic. (With a secret across the board nerf to legendaries), both can reach max level just the new rarity deals more damage. Kinda achieves what bungie want while bamboozling the community that hopefully they wont catch on...... mwahahaha. (Bungie employee in the making).

Thoughts on the update: When it comes to the idea of “extension of self” weapons, I feel like only exotics have enough personality to fill that role. We can still use our hard earned and soon to be capped legendary weapons in: 1) Free roam 2) Casual crucible 3) Competitive crucible 4) Vanguard strikes 5) OG nightfalls (think five of swords grind) 6) Gambit 7) All legacy raid content We would be disadvantaged using these weapons in 1) Pinnacle activities If you really need to keep using your same old 3 god rolls, great! Go pub stomp in the crucible. If you want to demonstrate how your guardian is a master of the battlefield, adapt to a changing meta and try out some new stuff. I think the Magic metaphor is spot on. There are evergreen formats to show off your sweet OG cards, but the entire game experience (read standard/pioneer/modern) isn’t defined and ultimately warped by the same handful of meta-defining powerhouses forever.

It’s time Bungie just gets rid of the pvp/pve thing and just make pvp it’s own separate game all together. No more mixing the two.

                    • Faction rallies weren’t engaging because the token economy of year one was poorly executed and the event itself was not as approachable as expected. Ditching the rallies is fine but the factions themselves can be extremely engaging (and something people still want). It was a core aspect of player identity in D1 and shouldn’t be dismissed because “we have too many other characters now.” Hell, just give them some BS weekly bounties to unlock all the Y1 weapons with random rolls (not just a few “fan favorites”). And the rally armor should just come back in the ornament pool for those that unlocked it. You want to push a “FOMO” mindset then some of that should be retroactive.

I’ve never ever made this statement and have defended the game over all. If you put a shelf life on certain or particular weapons I put countless hours into to get perfect rolls. I will delete my characters, the game and never buy another Bungie product.

                            • Having the legendaries be capped is a lazy way to make weapons interesting. This just makes weapons less interesting

So inevitably i wont be able to use my Luna’s or Not Forgotten because i don’t “NEED TO”? Listen i been a D1 & D2 player for a very long time i might miss a season but i ALWAYS come back. If you doo this not only will a gun that took me a literally year to get will not be viable but i cant use it unless its 1 playlist (PVP). Bro i was here for the Luna’s nerf i know it needed to happen but i was pissed not at how it’s RPM changed but at how it you changed it’s perk it was no longer a viable option in PVE. Eventually i got over it and came back but i was pissed for a while and i will be if you make guns that are extremely hard to get unviable thats dumb. What was the point i bought damn there every season never complained but today a line has been drawn in the sand and i don’t plan to cross i don’t just like guns because they are good but because of the story same with armor I’m rocking armor just because it has Cayde’s name. I have dogs so i love Luna’s story why make it that new players will never hear it whats the point in getting that gun with story if you cant use it anywhere. Anyways I’m done but bungie its not gonna be pretty making changes like this so late in the game.

                              • That's a lot of words to say... We don't care, we don't listen, we continue to ignore what has worked in the past. I guess it's hard to relate to people that have actually played the game the last few years.

                              • TLDR: We're going to continue our highly successful business model of taking your stuff away and re-selling it to you later while pretending it's new. And we're all going to continue to complain and cry about it while simultaneously continuing to play it anyway. I no longer realize why but I'm guilty of this as well.

                              • I really appreciate the candidness of these director cuts, a "look behind the curtain" if you will. I only just now got the play on words in titling them directors cut (shame on me). Now if you'll permit me to offer some feedback on one area in particular. THE WEAPONS FOREVER PROBLEM. I was one of the guardians who was absolutely disappointed that Destiny 2 was launching, I wanted Bungie to keep iterating on Destiny 1, I felt it was being abandoned just as it was coming into it its zenith. It wasn't until mid season 4 that I got into Destiny 2, one of the things that brought me back, was weapons forever. When infusion was introduced in Destiny 1, it was such a welcome change, it meant (for me) that I could truly create MY guardian AND perfect my playstyle. I could decide on a load-out and become super proficient with it because it could stay with me over time. Enter Destiny 2 and this aspect only got better. Looking back I'm kind of amazed, knowing how much I loved my Guardian (weapons, armor and all), that I would even contemplate coming into an environment where my ENTIRE vault was gone, but 2 things Destiny 2 got right here were 1). The loss of MY vault was rooted in the narrative(The Red War Campaign) and 2). I could rebuild new sets and load-outs that were not power capped after a while and I had pinnacle weapons to add on to that, whats not to love. It's true the Destiny community is vast and varied and you can't please everybody all the time, but I believe that your intent is to provide the best experience for your players, this "seasonal" approach to weapons, where a weapon is viable for a moment in time, runs counter to that intent. You earlier touched on how a weapons feel, (more so than even it's stats) tie in to the overall sense of your Guardian, a seasonal approach to weapons, severs that connection. Putting it another way, your break neck buddies, who claim they will never not use that auto rifle. What is so wrong with that, they are playing the game the way they enjoy playing the game, why would you want to take that away from them? There are ways to nudge players to try new things(weapons) without "forcing" them out of their personally defined core playing experience. Additionally, tying this in to what you discussed about you're evolving look at how seasonal content could work better, both for improving work/life balance for bungie employees and having content available for guardians who come back into destiny after periods of hiatus. In summary, it sounded like what you were saying was perhaps keeping things in the game longer, is better for the game(and it's devs). effectively deprecating weapons every 6-9 months it's the opposite of that. It's a slow drip version of "you're vault is entirely gone" red war style. When the end of pinnacles was announced, the main anxiety (I feel) was around whether or not it meant our Recluse, Mountain-Top, Not Forgottens, Revokers, Redrixes were just going to poof out of existence. This feels like that, except for every gun in the game...with the exception of exotics. Ultimately it's all up to you there at Bungie HQ, thanks for all the hard work you all put in behind and in-front of the scenes.

There's also a good chance the upcoming legendary weapons will completely overshadow the existing ones and you'd stop using them anyway. Give em a chance before going crazy folks

                                  • I’ve been playing destiny since day 1. Have around 600 raid clears over the years. I’ve created a clan with a few friends of mine. We have 10-20 weekly active users. Our clan are the people you should be catering too. Not the few streamers who make a living of of it. And you know why I come back. It’s not Datto. It’s my friends. People who have kids and lives. It’s an absolute insult to those people who will now waste their precious time collecting these weapons. Congrats Bungie, you’re making a game for 100 people. Hope that works out
