Feedback to the devs

Hey developers, I've been playing Destiny 2 during the month of January for the first time. Just wanted to let you know that on the one hand I enjoyed the campaigns (except for Shadowkeep - that was really tedious work and to be honest I'm still not sure if I beat it or if I just didn't find out about the last missions) - but that on the other hand I think the game does a really, really terrible job explaining new players what to do. - Why is the original campaign hidden in the hangar? - To me the campaign missions seem a lot more interesting than the whole shoot and loot part of the game. That can be fun but it becomes boring really fast and is - to me - not worth to spend a lot of time with.

Pretty much the only saving grace of the game is the gunplay. You'll soon come to realise that... 1 - The campaign is pretty meh and very forgettable 2 - Bungie really hates finishing off stories, so if you prefer the story aspect of the game, be prepared for a lot of 'ehhhhh, what happens next?' moments. 3 - While the franchise is brimming with potential, Bungie is plodding along with a skeleton crew on this game while they work on other projects, hence why we keep getting buggy and poorly implemented content. 4 - The REAL endgame as far as Bungie is concerned is Eververse. Have fun!

You're opining on something that has been a central issue for over five years. Nothing against you or your input, but it's insignificant. You're one of thousands that have stated this for half a decade. It's not that they will not improve this, it's that poor management and developmental decisions have essential put Bungle in a position where they've been operating one to two years behind at all times. Ever had a job in retail where a third of the floor called in sick and the entire day was a laborious, manic fustercluck? Now imagine every day is like that for five years. This is a franchise that rebooted both D1 and D2 and scrapped the narrative and twice attempted to rework a three to four year development cycle in sixteen to eighteen months, perpetually holding their teams way out in the weeds. Even if they could craft a decent evolving narrative and ways to guide players through that, their decisions insure they won't.

        • Go pick up D1 cheap. You'll enjoy it much more than D2. Bungo really dropped the ball with this sequel. It's broken at its core and will never be very good. Bungo just keeps putting Band-Aids on gun shot wounds with D2.

        • Check out 'Adventures' in patrol areas. Kinda mini side story missions. Some good lore & set pieces. The introduction for New Light players is flawed tho. A few mates gave it a try & had no idea what was where & why.

Welcome. Bungie wanted to create a game where you wouldn't have to slog through two years worth of campaign and DLC content before you could play the most current and relevant content. (Thsi time last year you would have had to do that.) They also wanted a game where you could take breaks....leave...and come back. But not feel like you had to climb this mountain of content to rejoin the game. I think Bungie achieved that....but they didn't put enough thought into the fact that a brand new player wouldn't KNOW this.....and would struggle to figure out what to do. I think Bungie had the right ideas, but poorly executed them. So the amount of content is no longer a barrier to new players like yourself. But understanding how to INTERACT with that content still is. As you're saying its hard to know what to play....when to play it....and where to find it. Hell, I'm a Day One Destiny 1 player...and it took me a while to figure out what they had done with the D2 campaigns...and I knew what I was looking for..... However, in their defense, Bungie lost a 1/3 of the game's workforce last year when they split with Activision, but they still made a LOT of changes to the game last summer. IMO, almost all of them improvements. But I think in some cases they were changing so many things so fast, that some important details were missed. Details you are calling attention to.

        • Bungie prefers to hide the work of great developers and star employees. It’s too high of a benchmark. Better simply add cyclotomic BS for joblessers and the like no lifers. Enjoy the fractaline competition!

        • Yep, Destiny has never really been a user friendly game. Too many things are unknown to someone just playing the game without having to refer to the internet for guidance.

It isn't even just bad design, it's also a horrendous business decision imo. At this point, there's actually quite a lot of in-game storytelling in D2. With the initial campaign, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, some of the smaller stories during year 2 and Shadowkeep, there's quite a lot. But Bungie never bothered to streamline that stuff or made it easy to experience chronologically. They also don't advertise how much "story experience" there is in the game by now, even though there's a ton of people who play games for the narrative alone. They only seem to be good at monetizing Eververse, which is a real shame. Just running after industry trends, drooling and with dollar signs in their eyes. They never seem to stop and reflect on what makes their game so unique and fun.

            • I love this game, but their designers and testers all seem to have played a ton of games for decades, and they assume everyone else has too. There is almost nothing in game. I'm fine with discovery, but i shouldn't have to go to reddit to find out how to play. Don't offer me a fractaline gift of i should wait until later to collect it. Stop changing quests back and forth from character based to account based, etc. You gave us in game updates on the load screen, and you only use then to tell us about double points and what's coming next week. Would it really be that hard to put account or character in the corner of the quest in bright yellow letters? I'm fine with the game play hints about mechanics and stuff, but managing your character or the economy is not intuitive at all.

            • Shadowkeep campaign by far was the worst one. They couldn't even be bothered to create a new boss for it. This game is a lot like The Office -- should have ended at season 7.

Welcome to Destiny! You've gotten through a campaign! Now you have two choices: See through the low quality bullshit this game is or don't.

            • Bungie s strengths from halo era used to be story campaign and pvp now it's umm I not really sure . We all agree on the potential it's there just under the surface . But for whatever reason bungie can't seem to nail it .

            • I'd say either watch my_name_is_byf if your new to Destiny, or at your own leisure do the Red War/Curse of Osiris/Warmind ------ Forsaken/Black Armory/Jokers Wild/Opulence. I'd say BA and JW don't really add much to the story but they do offer good loot. Rating: RW= 4/10 CoO= 3/10 WM= 6/10 FK= 8/10 BA= 4/10 JW= 4/10 OP= 7/10 So definitely choose what you want to do. They did it to were you can just jump to where your friends are at. I'd just watch Byf. Takes less time unless you want to Experience it yourself.

            • Everything in this game takes a backseat to gameplay. Most of us here have spent 1% or less of our Destiny game time running those campaign missions just to give you perspective. Oh, and welcome!

            • The campaign has always lacked structure. That's why we have yet to get one good story. If there was one, the game would be remembered for it. People that read lore are the servant class of a subpar product. The game world isn't convincing. It's a darn shame.

            • Bungie has admitted this is a problem. To be fair, there is a marker on the map and a quest step to talk to Amanda. Bungie has also made a guide... https://www.bungie.net/en/Guide/Destiny2 It was definitely a mistake to not help new players find their way using more obvious prompts. I also don't like that they can't play the whole campaign. I know there are reasons for that, but it's still a bummer. I hope you give the game the chance I know it deserves.

            • D1 was built the way you desire. So get that if you want a more story driven game. D2 has so many loose ends that don’t completely relate, even if a new player got into the campaign there will be aspects that still not finished before they start a new story line (case in point Saint 14 in seasons when we still haven’t finished defeating Calus or defending Nesses...). Yeah that quest line is a bit vague at end. Hence the release of The Pit to help tie it in. But was left there when Saint 14 came back. Sooooo again, case in point. All these short stories are about loot which isn’t even new to old players like myself.

            • As a new player, did your light start out at 750 also? If so, I think that is really stupid of bungie to do. I do like when D2 starts on a new character, you play the D1 first mission and not the D2 first missions. Those -blam!-in sucked. But as a D2 new player, I'd feel lost if I didn't play D1 first and it would feel overwhelming on wtf is this game and what is it that you are supposed to do. You'd have 200 objectives to do all at once.. -blam!- that!

            • They’ve had a real problem shepherding new players (or even veterans in some instances), their UI/UX needs a little more of the UX. Too many features, functions and options are hidden or presented poorly and the UI is suffering some SERIOUS bloat when it comes to indicators and pagination. Not to mention the arbitrary numbers of items on screen and seemingly random presentation of progress and stats.

            • You beautiful naive Blueberry. Bungie doesn't listen. Bungie doesn't care. You're not a big name streamer, so Bungie doesn't make this game with you in mind.
