I see a lot of people asking for solo activities which I think indicates a massive failure; not because it doesn’t have those activities but because clearly there isn’t enough of an incentive to help random/new players.
A few ideas might be:
unique rewards to those that help players in their first raid completions
An in game LFG
A skill tree dedicated to perks that help new players in endgame activities
Clan rankings
Player profiles that show how helpful they are?
I don’t think the answer is having lots of solo activities. This is a multiplayer game after all.
I know guided games is a thing but honestly, the intention may have been right but in practice it was terrible. Give people more incentive to help others!
edit
Noticing a lot of “people should help others because it’s nice, not for reward”.
Well, firstly, I totally agree but that’s the situation we have currently and if I’m not mistaken, 80% of the player base has never finished a raid and many people are locked out of certain catalysts/pinnacle weapons etc.
Secondly: why is it a bad thing if it’s mutually beneficial?
Thirdly: incentives can mean more than direct rewards. A skill tree that makes it easier to help others the more you help others is good, surely?

Won't happen. Look at guided games.

3 RepliesThe only reason you need to help others is cause you want to, that's it. If you need other reasons to help, then you truly dont want to, so dont.

Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 1/11/2020 3:21:57 AMI agree that endgame sherpas should be incentivized. Look at my raid.report profile and you'll see I take people through raids frequently. However, there is a side to this that needs discussed and that's the unwillingness of people to try to find other people. Lot of people do one LFG, hate it, generalize LFG to that one experience, and complain about it. Meanwhile, there are clans (like the literally TWO I'm affiliated with) that are hurting for active players and sherpa raids literally every week. Nobody joins up and we're literally always recruiting. Both of them even support kindergardians. We sherpa 10 years olds ffs. Sucks to suck sometimes, but it's like all these people have social anxiety and want Bungie (or us sherpas) to do the work for em and that's why they demand crap like raid matchmaking when there are clans recruiting all day everyday in these very forums and hundreds of LFG posts per day. Sometimes you gotta make more than a 4 minute effort when you post an LFG for leviathan with a "need 5, never raided" or if you join a party with no mic expecting a carry. Trust me, I'm 70 raids deep and that easily puts me in the top 10%, if not the top 5% and I've got 50 sherpas under my belt. I want to be rewarded more for it, but the hardest part is finding people who take it seriously and understand that you can't carry lazy people through most raids. Like, it's a game, and games are fun, but being 4 hours deep into someone's first raid because they can't hold it together long enough to survive the final encounter isn't fun either, and no one's paying me to stay up til 3am to do this. There's a give and take here. It's a team endgame event that requires actual teamwork. Show up ready to play, join a sherpa clan, and engage with people. This is an MMO, which means eventually you gotta deal with other people.

Your number of estimated 80% not having completed a raid: concerning the other 20% a lot will kick you if you don’t already “KWTD”.... it’s not just game play. It’s most the people who continue to play don’t want to spend time with those who don’t know how. Why most KWTD posts I don’t care to even look at anymore because of how high and mighty most of them present themselves.

people who want to help do so.

The LFG part in game needs to happen however there are ways other games have accomplished a "help others" incentive outside of just LFG. FFXIV has a commendation as well as a 1st time bonus system. If at least one peron in the party has never done activity to completion before on the activty you are in you will get a message saying "A player has not completed this activty, there is a first time bonus of X tomestones for first completion." Now tomestones are an end game (depending on which one) currency used to buy gear and other items. I think Destiny would greatly benefit from a first time clear bonus like this, maybe have 100 bright dust bonus for a first time clear and it scales up depending on the type of content it is. The commendation system is basically just "were you a good teammate or not" if you were in a matchmade activity players can leave a commendation for you at the end of the activity, get lots of commendations and there are cosmetic rewards for them.

3 RepliesIf people are honest and cool I have no problem helping anyone. The issues is lots of people lie about their ability and what knowledge they have or come unprepared... won't help anyone like that. If you want to play end game, come prepared and be honest with what you know, watch a vid if it's a raid, any knowledge is better than none.

Even in my guild people only want to help each other if they need to do it themselves, I helped a lot but I am not really playing atm (login for 5min get some cores), and it sucks to be the only one helping others. Has to be a pretty good incentive to get this community going.

I think they should make guided games semi match made, but only people who have 5+ clears could he guides and if no seekers can be found then guides can be matched into a full fireteam. Bungie could then reward bonus exp and extra loot drops during the final encounter for guides. complaining 3 guided games could offer a bonus pinnacle reward or ascendant shards.

2 RepliesEdited by iliopoulosXD: 1/10/2020 2:34:14 AMHow about just making matchmaking available and make some end game modes (raids in particular) difficulties a little more forgiving than stand here do that one guy dies it's a wipe...more fun less pointing fingers during the dps phase Make challenge modes for datto and gladd..but give the game back to everyone else please.

That'll never happen. Absolute fantasy.

Edited by MysticTR1: 1/9/2020 10:46:01 PMDivision 2 does this well. They call it the Sheppard system...Sherpa? LOL Call for help in any activity, anywhere, players who want to receive calls get a small msg bottom of screen, click and click again, bam instant matchmaking. The Sheppard gains rank and caches for helping. It's simple and made instant matchmaking easy. Bungie might try this if eververse finally died off but not likely.

Know how to fix it? Don't help new players. Stop letting them get that easy ride. If they want to do it they will find a way to do it. If they are your friend sure help em, but if you don't know em then screw them. They'll find new players and help each other out. When the demands for sherpas becomes lower they won't be as overwhelmed and have an easier time helping out the plebs that are too frightened by the idea of a raid. An in-game ifg won't work, you need mics.

2 RepliesEdited by ITZ Baddy: 1/9/2020 4:18:34 PMWhy? I mean, seriously. The free to play accounts have literally ruined every playlist. Folks have nothing invested, literally, so they don't give a damn. Get rid of the free to play crap and I'll consider sherpa'ing raids and nightfalls again. Until the free to play accounts are 100% gone, I'm out on helping anyone with anything.

Why should I help someone who will end up leaving after they realize that they aren’t getting their money’s worth

1 guaranteed 60+ stat pinnacle drop each week if you complete the raid with at least 2 players that have never completed it. Something similar for crucible if your teammate hits 5500 for the first time that season Also throw in a couple emblems cause they are super easy to design and why not. Make it an extremely rare chance to drop and can only drop upon completing the raid with minimum 2 players who have never done it with a tiny increase to drop chance when running more 1st timers. And the crucible emblem can only drop upon teammates hitting 5500 for the first time that season with a low drop chance. This gives elite players something to farm (like scarab back in the day) to show how awesome a player they are. Doesn’t affect game play at all, and makes people want to help get others through the raid or to legend which would cut into services selling those completions and make the experience less toxic And a triumph book with triumphs specifically for helping first timers with raids, quests, crucible, nightfalls, heroic public events. Basically incentive for vets to help new lights which would build friendships, keep them around longer, encourage recommendations bring in more new players, and over all boosting player numbers all while giving people who actually enjoy the grind something to new and potentially challenging to grind for.

1 ReplyIncentives for ALL players to help out
-
I've realised alot of games lack in this area, not just destiny 2
-
I tend to help others when I am just patrolling or triumph hunting; when not pressed for time. Sometimes it's just jumping in an event and triggering Heroic, or joining a Guardian requesting some farming assistance. I do this because I remember being new, and how I enjoyed seeing more experienced Guardians shred through PvE with style and flair! I tend to stick with new players in Vanguard Strike playlists (including 750 Ordeal) to help out those that may be learning the game. <- Also because I am working on the Vanguard Questline and trying to bake treats for the maxed out Dawning sparrow anyway. I am still incentivized by emotion and actual in-game rewards these ways. I wouldn't mind seeing a way for players to rate others in a reputation system that is visible when a player is inspected though. That could come along with ranks that offer rewards like the Season Pass does.

5 RepliesEdited by Lull9: 1/9/2020 8:23:29 AMThere are people that are absolutely STUCK in the mindset of being "solo-only." Like they will not even consider being in a fireteam at all, or only if it's absolutely critical to some major quest. There's no help for them.

1 ReplyEdited by Cal: 1/9/2020 4:29:37 PMI have over 100 raid sherpas in D2. People will help you if you cool and honest. You can’t complain about people having requirements. Being in need does not make it ok to take up someone’s time. If people want to do a quick run without explain and learning curves that’s fine. There are other teams like mine that like to teach. But your can wag your finger on the entire community cause others don’t want to “carry” I do like the incentives or a Sherpa emblem that isn’t attached to guided games would be cool.

Its called matchmaking and rewards should be even across the board.
