Three reasons I think banning vape products is absurd.

1) there is no debate that vaping is at least safer than smoking... and despite being regulated and heavily taxed... tobacco is still legal. 2) even if we assume that vaping is unhealthy (we dont have any long term studies yet) then we should talk about the stupidity of, being enough of a nanny state to ban this thing because it's bad for you, but simultaneously allowing the multitude of things that are just as bad if not worse. You know, tobacco, alcohol, fast food, junk food, sugar in everything... it doesnt convince me the government gives a poop about you or me if anything it makes me think the vaping industry failed to suck up to the right people. Or, potentially, that the tobacco industry sucked up to the right people. 3) even if jesus himself came down from heaven and declared that it's bad for you I think you should have the individual liberty to decide whether you do it or not. And no, I don't vape or have any interest in doing so. I just think the "controversy" is stupid.

  • Sure fine, let’s just let kids go on and contract this disease. Protecting our citizens is one of the LEGITIMATE reasons for then government to exist.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I don't think they should be banned. They should, however, have big ole "You will fucking die" labels on the packaging like cigarettes. It's your choice, sure, but you should know the risks when you make it. By the way, there is a lot of studies on vaping. It is dangerous. Chemical burns, bronchitis, secondhand vape, and more have been confirmed.

    • I just don’t understand vaping and smoking or any of that. You’re harming your body and more times than not you develop an addiction in the process. But heck, I haven’t done any of it so what do I know.

      • 1- Yes there is a debate. There are zero vapers who have vaped for their entire life. There are already reports that vaping can cause more lung damage than smoking. Nicotine and tar settle at the bottom of the lungs. The alveoli in vapers are damaged throughout the entire lung, being irreparably damaged from liquid, oil, and heat. A smoker who quits can regain healthy lungs in a few years if not smoking, sometimes up to 6-7 years for heavy long time smokers. Vaping is terrible for you and the long term effects are probably going to be very similar to pneumonia, collapses lungs (lungs may not actually be collapsed physically, but the reduced capacity will have similar effects/symptoms) and who knows what else. Vaping is at least as harmful as smoking, although with different effects. That being said, yes. If people want to vape, I say let them. If society is okay with alcohol and tobacco and marijuana being legal, it’s stupid to single out vaping specifically. Tobacco helped build America as a country, has always been a huge source of money for the country as an export and a taxable commodity. Tobacco has deep roots in the identity of the United States and the money in tobacco is almost as old as the country itself. Tobacco has tons of influential people and politicians in its pocket. So I agree with the points that the vaping industry is being targeted because it was marketed as a competitor and alternative to cigarette smoking/tobacco use. My personal opinion is that I wish it were banned because when a huge thick cloud of vanilla pineapple puff floats by the disgusting smell is worse than cigarettes, thicker and more invasive than smoke, and there are times when I’ll be sitting outside and people nearby have these insane rigs and the cloud is so thick, as it blows by, I can’t even see the person sitting across the table from me. I know there are less intrusive vapes, but you know the ones I mean. They are obnoxious and disgusting.

Personally I see intentionally inhaling any burned substances as idiotic. Our lungs were designed to convert the oxygen in the air to CO2, not take in all manner of mood altering carcinogens. I mean what's the first thing your body does the first time(s) that you inhale any smoke or vape? You go through the bodies natural functions to expel the offending substances from your lungs in coughing. I mean, that SHOULD be a sign.

          • That’s Objectivist thinking that is a moral slippery slope that can be used to justify/rationalize anything. The issue is that we don’t know what is in any of these products and have no idea what the long term impact of their use. In short the public is being used as guinea pigs in a clinical trial of a product that it may not be possible to use in any sort of safe fashion. Alcohol and tobacco are too deeply ingrained in our culture to remove at this point, but this is something that we have ability to prevent from taking root.

            • Need more studies done and effects on lungs. I would agree that it's better than cigarettes, but a couple thousand people are in ICU related to vaping. Not sure what's going on there, but we need to know exactly why.

                  • I think what's extremely dumb about it is these Vape bans stem for like, what, less than 20 deaths? A drug sold by a pharmacist would have to kill thousands before the FDA stepped in. And of all the deaths I'm aware of they weren't buying vapes from regulated companies. They died buying things that were already illegal.

Why can’t consenting adults do what they want with their body this time? Why haven’t we learned our lesson from prohibition or the war on drugs? Regulation or banning doesn’t work well

                    • People really haven’t learned from history when it comes to drug prohibition. People will still do drugs even if they are illegal, that’s just how it is. All you do by banning vapes instead of regulating them is make it so if someone wants to vape, they’ll instead have to go to unofficial & often unsafe avenues to get it instead.

                    • It would not suprise me if it was revealed that the tobbaco lobbyists are behind it Millions have died from the effects of smoking against 52 from vaping. I don't know the details but are the deaths from regular vapers or were it DIY vapers that made mistakes?

                        • After vaping Salt nic and smoking dipping for years, i really enjoyed the vaping. I didnt see any side effects to my lungs. But i did see them to my brain. The quantity of nicotine that was being taken in was out balanced by the taste and pleasure of the vaping experience. Imo. I know i should have just cut down my mgs but i got carried away. Anywhoo what caused me to stop vaping for the time being was the social pressure(which was a huge surprise) and that i vaped so much i had a major coughing attack that i believe was not from my lungs but my brain. It was like the right side of my brain was about to pop for real. That was the last time i vaped other than a puff or 2 cuz i ran out of dip. Its a undetermined method of nicotine ingestion that could explode anyday with real world consequences... Why nicotine cant be just put in lollipops i just dont know.. But vaping for me is at a indefinite stand still.
