Exotic Quest Steps

So, I know first off this will have the try-hard PVP family try to gloat and show how big their pants are. But it would be nice if they would give an alternative, even if slower and more grindy, for any exotic quest requiring PVP steps. UNLESS the entire thing is locked behind PVP, in which case, it makes more sense. It is annoying for the majority of players, that they go through 5+ steps of a quest to get a new exotic, with no hint whatsoever that it will require PVP. Only for there to suddenly be one or multiple steps for such, some especially tricky or difficult to do if you are either not good or simply do not wanna do PVP. Let us take Lumina for instance. First you are send on a fetch quest, which takes time, for some longer others shorter. Then you need to get 250 Orbs of Light, takes a little bit of work but can be done in reasonable time if you really want. After that you have three different steps which requires going through a nightfall, going through several rounds of activities for points and then getting 100 kills without reloading, two of which can be done at the same time of course. Then you need to get kills/do activities with Rose, simple enough. And then we get dropped on our heads two steps of PVP. One requiring Guardian kills, you either need to kill yourself or hope someone else is using a hand cannon on your team to make progress a bit faster with their kills. And then in Gambit you need to get the kill on an invader in Gambit. BEFORE they kill anyone on your team, that of course includes, yourself. The steps sound simple, easy. For some they are, others they are not. For a variety of reasons and some like myself, would just outright refuse cause for our owns reasons we do not like or want to do PVP. Would it be hard to really add alternatives? Like, killing specific bosses or grinding out lost sectors, having to do menagerie runs or even wait for Xur and do a request for him? They already changed how some exotics are given, works and bounties from Banshee-44 to not require Crucible kills anymore but either that or just doing PVE.

  • I fully agree my dude I absolutely loathe the crucible and only really perform well with my suros regime, and even then I'm not that great. I hate having to do crucible activities for lore/exotics.

    I've played my fair share of PVP in Destiny 1. Destiny's PVP is easily the least enjoyable PVP experience I've ever had. All my quest steps basically stop at PVP. Especially now, with the new season, Recharging the Sundial is making me question how much I actually care to play through the season quests because of the PVP requirement. There is no lore reason for PVP quest steps, save for a few exotics designed specifically to kill Guardians, and including it in the PVE story quest lines feels like a slap in the face. I know I could complete most of all the PVP quest steps in one game if I had to, did it in Destiny, but I'd rather not waste my time with a game mode that I don't agree with.

  • Wasn’t worth it for another exotic hand cannon that’s a gimmick cause I have not seen a single player with it since it’s launch

    • IDK, as a mostly solo player I am not too concerned with a bit of PVP added to a quest as long as I don't have to actually win any matches (I completely suck at PVP). But what I get blocked by are quest steps that require a fire team to complete. I would not be bad if the strike requirement could be fulfilled by a random strike with matchmaking that I will eventually hit. In that case I would just back burner the quest and eventually I would end up doing the strike. No, you have to actually form a strike team and go to the quest at the destination. Heck, I am even in a clan but am reluctant to ask my clan mates to go and do some minor quest with me as they are mostly doing endgame raids and its hard enough for them to get people organized just to meet and do those. Just add matchmaking to these quest steps is all I am asking.

      • Aight, so you’d like the handcannon kills to be 5,000 handcannon kills in patrol? That’s grindy enough. Or the invader step, kill 500 blockers or high value targets in gambit.

        • Are you serious? The longest part of lumina by far is games with rose solo. You're complaining about the invader kill? Seriously? I got it done in 1 round, grab heavy preferably truth, wait for the invader and shoot them, beyond easy, the pvp kills dont even remove progress on death so it's a non-issue as well. The fact that people complain about this stuff makes me even more critical when people ask for raid matchmaking. Imagine you get a random in a raid who finds getting a kill on an invader within 10 seconds which is plenty of time is too hard...

          • No alternatives needed. Put on your big pants, go into the crucible, and get it done. The pve only crowd are the biggest bunch of cry babies. You never hear such whining the other way around, it just doesn’t exist. You could have finished all those pvp steps faster than it took you to create this post!

            • if a person is not skilled enough to complete a quest step then they have no one to blame aside them self. quests should be difficult to achieve, it is a quest not a shopping list. should the issue be you dislike a portion of the game, so what? things are not designed around an individual's taste, or skill level. participating in a quest is a choice, not a privilege. the reward is not obtained by simply doing anything. people need to get over themselves and either do the quest to get the reward or accept they will never see it due to lack of skill or distaste for a portion of the game. it is beyond reason to ask for them to make these changes due to people's selfish reasons. the game is as a whole, whatever step within the game is fair requests to perform in the line of a quest. how badly do you want the reward, or is complaining about not getting it more fun?

              • Just got Lumina over the weekend after the quest being in my inventory for 6 months. I don't do PvP but tried some over the weekend and managed to get Lumina finished and progress on The Last Word quest. We've been asking for years to give us a choice and in a way they did. With Thorn, they us choices, do PvP or Gambit or Strikes, we were happy BUT the final step - 500 void kills in Crucible, hence why the quest is just sitting in my inventory. Cricuble is a bit more forgiving since the Shadowkeep changes but still don't like going in there.
