What the hell did I just read?

I just can't understand. Why does Bungie see us so heartless two-faced bstrds? Isn't that a joke?
I mean... This is the Dawning (Christmas) lore that tells us about how we !GUARDIANDS! mocking a guy for some stuff he didn't even remember? He is under a year! This is not even Uldren!
He is just a kinderguardian. And everyone (REALLY??) wants to lynch him. This is the first thing he knows about us.
Wow, Bungie... Now I'm ashamed to be a Guardian.
(sorry for my eng)

I thought it was kinda beautiful, but sad. But it's makes sense. Guardians (and civilians alike) wouldn't necessarily know or believe he genuinely has no memory of what he was or did. It never occurred to me when I watched the cutscene in Mara's throne room. All I could think was "what new devilry is this?" Never for a moment considered that the Ghost might actually be sent from the Traveller and was destined for Uldren all along. That Cayde's death was a sacrifice to a higher purpose rather than a murder. I (and therefore the Guardian) assumed this was another Taken plot. A last gasp trick by Dul Incaru and her mother. What's the betting this is tied in with the 15th Wish!

12 RepliesIt's an unbelievable shame. I never even wanted to kill him, to me it feels like Petra is the one who fired at him, I would have much rather had him answer to a tribunal Awoken/Vanguard and not just end his arc on a "revenge for Cayde". He was corrupted after all, his choices weren't his own and yet most people are eager to just put the blame on him and begrudge him :/
-
He gets what he deserves, guy was always a jerk
-
2 RepliesWonder what subclass he is? Hoping he's nightstalker
-
7 RepliesI mean... I’d do it if I never saw him get rezzed after we killed him. I’d guess he somehow made it out alive. Or, were I not Lord Guardian, Crota’s end, Slayer of Oryx, I would assume I was lied to. OR I would assume he was a guardian before. Never would I think he became a guardian after getting Cayde got like that.
-
Honestly... He was eaten by a tentacle meatball then barfed up then shot in the face... From two angles... We are even as far as I'm concerned. New life new man.
-
10 RepliesThat bit of lore broke my heart. I never hated Uldren, even during forsaken. It sucks that Guardians are apparently heartless psychos who seem to have forgotten that newly risen peeps are essentially new people altogether, regardless of who they used to be. How many other guardians do you think have incredibly dark pasts that they simply don’t know about?
-
4 RepliesThe old uldren is gone his a guardian now and deserves a second chance. He shouldn't be punished for a past life he cant even remember.
-
I guess it's time to let bygones be bygones. He emerged as a new person becoming a guardian.
-
I wouldn’t be mad at him but I wouldn’t have shot Uldren to begin with. Not because I hate cayde, but the ghost is right. After all that darkness and getting eaten by the butthole, Uldren was dying. He’s a baby light and I would forgive him.
-
You’ve never been on any post discussing Uldren as a Guardian have you?
-
15 RepliesIt is Uldren. In the hearts and minds of every Guardian, it’s Uldren. Has his face and everything. Every single time we see that new Risen’s face, we will be reminded of the man who murdered Cayde. That’s why we all hate on him. Regardless of what he remembers. Doesn’t matter when WE remember
-
% Think of it as an seeable example as to why Guardians looking into their past isn't something that's emphasized. %
-
2 RepliesUldren remembers everything he did in his previous life, there was a glitch in the resurrection. Porky screwed up the revive. He's faking the wipe.
-
2 RepliesProbably because most of the forums have saying they'd kill him if they saw the new him. They have been known to use the community at large to portray the...well, community at large
-
It’s interesting though as we don’t even know our own past, so how can we judge uldren? Maybe that’s the setup to his future storyline or something, our own dark past comes back to hunt us and not the gimmicky shadowkeep bs but who we used to be
-
That's genuinely upsetting to read, not his fault he bears the face of the man who killed Cayde.

Edited by emp strqnding: 12/13/2019 9:46:01 AMthere are plenty of people who are bloodthirsty toward him for no real reason. it’s an interesting community response, actually. https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyLore/comments/8zfc94/what_if_uldren_became_a_guardian/ you can see part of it in the top comment here. a streamer put out a “how would you treat uldren?” poll a long time ago and the results were heavily skewed toward hating uldren. can’t find it though humans do terrible things. you don’t have to be ashamed of being one, just be a better one every day lol this is a couple posts down

4 RepliesThis is the same narrative team that tried to ham-fistedly paint guardians as remorseless killers in order to make the Scorn sympathetic (among other ludicrous things). I remember reading better fiction in high school going through submissions for our literary magazine. It’s all just cliched story beats and shallow character development in a desperate attempt to provoke an emotion. This team’s writing is like cooking a steak with a flame thrower. It gets the job done but it ain’t subtle.
-
We don’t really know what our Guardians do other than nonstop killing, so we could very well be heartless \_(ツ)_/ Also he did kinda kill one of our best friends in a former life, I can’t imagine it would be easy to forgive him for that, even after knowing he doesn’t remember it
-
I haven’t got around to reading it before, so thanks for the link. Sounds like things are getting worse for him....I think we need to find him before everyone else turns him back into the bitter thing he was before rez.

1 ReplyWhat problems "Guardians" have with Uldren is their own deeply personal issues to deal with. Uldren did nothing wrong. except execute his people and release a Darkness infused Wish granting dragon which caused a never ending curse upon the place he once called home. but that was before he died. Now, he's just like every other Guardian who has done bad things in their past and doesn't remember.
