If I have recluse, is there any reason to use another energy SMG?
Are there energy SMGs better than Recluse? Aside from a SMG with a different element, are others worth getting? I think there's fun in using different guns just to mix things up, but otherwise, I haven't found anything better.

There isn't a single weapon in the game legendary or exotic that can compete in pve to recluse, with the exception of divinity, and that won't be true after it's nerfed. The only scenario where u don't run recluse is because of match game in a strike that u are 100% certain doesn't contain a single void shield. And if there is a void shield, the person running a void weapon should be running recluse. So no there are no smgs better than recluse, u might as well consider recluse the only smg in the game.

In pve, not unless your getting sick of using recluse. Pvp: yes their are some really good alternatives. Ikelos smg, calus mini tool, antiope, and hero's burden are great choices.

Every Waking Moment is pretty nice. Recluse is also only good at short range on console. It’s not universal like everyone says. I switch it out a lot for things with better range.

Depends on what you want it to do. I personally only ever have 1 recluse so I use something else when I need barrier mods or something.

1 ReplyExit Strategy is pretty nice primary SMG. Funny, I remembered hating SMG during the first two years. Until recently, I was like "ah, screw it, I'm gonna try it anyway" and I'm now in love with Exit Strategy, Riskrunner and few others. I do not have Recluse at the moment (hopefully I get it soon).

Ace of spades + chromatic fire has been a very fun replacement for my recluse.

Riskrunner with catalyst is pretty sick. Depends on what you want to do.

Antiope offers a good primary smg Hero's burden is great when you're specced for stability Waking moment is almost like an energy antiope with better range. I find the main issue lies in pc v console. Pc there's no other reason since it shoots straight all the time. On console you have more options to compete, but recluse is still dirty.

Nope. Recluse is light years ahead of most of the PvE weapons let alone SMGs

If you're a warlock with Nezerics sin, it's worth using every waking moment with demolitionist and breach refractor as not only do you get super fast cooldowns you get your grenades back almost instantly as it allows you to keep cycling through abilities and gaining super energy. It's a pretty sweet combo. Kills with every waking moment increase all ability Regen due to Nezerics but also adds grenade energy from both demolish with the anti barrier mod giving you more grenade energy from breach refractor so your grenades are nearly spammable with a few SMG kills and each grenade decreases your overall Regen time for all abilities leading into a great synergy of grenades melees empowering rifts and supers over and over again

If you're trying to be optimal, then there's probably no reason to use any other Primary or Energy weapon. Kinetic Special weapon, Recluse, and whatever you want as a Heavy. Most people use Izanagi's Burden now and pair it with Recluse.

If you’re like me and get bored of using a single weapon for too long then there is definitely a reason to get a different smg. That and using some perks might be more useful such as demolitionist or disruption break. If you’re not then huckleberry and riskrunner can definitely compete and some say are even better than recluse, but those are exotic.

I too have the Recluse and mostly use it in pve. Smg wise, only Huckleberry comes to mind if you haven't grinded for the catalyst. Outside of that, really depends on good much you wanna play the game on easy mode per kill.

I got bored of the same load outs and started using side arms and weird load outs for fun.

1 ReplyI got the Vex SMG with threat detector & multi kill clip & an outlaw Swashbuckler that is insane on a Hunter with blades & double knives, plus Monte for the melle energy. Or, ya could jus try other stuff.. for fun? Doesn't have to be meta to be fun.. jus ask Black Talon or Two Tailed Fox 😉
