Iron Banner, or any other part of the game, should be pleasing on some level in and of itself. If it's only a chore to get a reward, you won't likely enjoy it either way. If that's true, there really is no reason to do it at all anyway. If on the other hand you like playing it, but prefer using your favorite loadout, then by all means do so, and let the chips fall where they may. Sure, you won't get the armor, but so what? I was a platinum D1 player, and didn't miss anything (other than Trials). I had everything else, played compulsively because I was afraid I would miss something. That changed in D2, because of exactly what is frustrating you here. More and more I felt I was being funneled into game modes or play styles Bungie wanted me to be in rather than look at what people liked and building on that. Like they knew better than I did what was fun for me! I may have many shortcomings, but I'm the world's leading expert on me, and they were wrong. So, I use the only power I have - the power to ignore what I don't like. If enough of us do this, and we have in the past (post-Curse of Osiris), we get a desired outcome. You can complain on the board about it, and I'm not saying you shouldn't, but the only thing that ever gets the attention of Bungie is dropping population numbers in game modes or the game et al. It's Thursday morning and I've yet to set foot in Iron Banner because of precisely what you're talking about. I usually do, but I have all the weapons already and the armor doesn't matter, AND I don't want to do this quest. I don't enjoy Destiny PvP largely because of the matchmaking, and have such a bad taste about it I haven't even tried it since the drop of Shadowkeep. Am I missing stuff? Yup. Do I care? No, not really.

Not trying to be rude, but I don't give a rat's ass about the armor. I'm just trying to get some """new""" weapons and armor mods, but if I don't do the quest, I'll just have to screw off back to the Moon.
