500 AR Kills - "wow, that's a lot, but okay there are plenty of enemies each game."
100 Multikills - "That's fine, I'll get that on my way to 500 total kills"
150 challengin enemies - "Meh, most enemies in gambit are considered challenging. Easy."
40 games played - "wait... 40!?"
That last point is extremely flawed with this quest.
40 games is ONLY a time gate. Especially because there is no benefit to even trying to win, the reward won't come any faster if you do. It'd be just as efficient to AFK through matches as it would be to actively try to win, Just move or jump occasionally while doing something else.
Each game lasts around 15 minutes on average from my experience - 15 x 40 = 600. That's 10 hours. 10 hours of straight Gambit gameplay.. That doesn't even consider downtime between matches via searching and loading matches.
Edit: Appreciate all the responses. Aware this isnt going to change but wanted to put my thoughts out there all the same.
I have since finished it and I'm really enjoying Breakneck.
The points below still stand.
Thoughts on potential fixes:
1 - Lower the overall games to 20. This would be roughly 5 hours. Which given the other requirements should be adequate.
2 - Change 40 games to 40 points. Make wins count as 2 or even 3 points. Make Losses count as 1.
This way it would encourage players to try and win while also hopefully shortening the unnecessary grind after the other challenges are inevitably finished well before 40 games.

3 RepliesHave you seen the Hush requirements? 1000 🏹 final blows 500 🏹 precision final blows ??? Medals earned For hush... All that, for hush... What's the big perk on hush you ask? Why let me tell you, it draws really fast if you get a hipfire precision kill!
-
5 RepliesBounties should be an incentive to win, not just afk around.
-
I quite like Gambit and for these type of quests I just left them running in the background and eventually you will hit them from a few games per week.
-
1 ReplySeriously this is one of the easiest pinnacle weapons to get. Why not do this and 21% delirium at the same time? I promise you will have breakneck long before 21%.
-
Edited by tollo003: 10/10/2019 7:00:35 PMNew players should get Breakneck at 20 games if requirements are met & curated Trust for the 40 game completion. 40 games where way to many, especially on 3 toons.
-
Quests only seem unreasonable if you set out on the mission to do them right away, if you only played the 4 gambit games for powerful gear a week, you’d have breakneck after a mere 10 weeks play
-
40 games was BRUTAL. What was worse is when a match took 3 rounds. I found myself letting the first round dictate the pace. If we win the first, I’d try hard to win the second. Same is true if we lost, I’d tank the second, doing whatever it took to lose lol. They should have made it a percentage system giving more progression for wins. Oh well.
-
Wouldnt waste my time if i were you breakneck is kinda crap now
-
5 RepliesI did it in a single sitting. I feel your pain.
-
Start the hush quest. You'll get this before hush
-
It's a pinnacle weapon... not to mention, probably the easiest of the 3 original gambit ones.
-
Edited by Amazinite: 10/10/2019 7:27:53 AMYou’re gonna love the Broadsword quest. Or better yet, the other two Gambit pinnacle weapons. Delirium requires an infamy reset and Hush requires a load of medals, both of which take longer than 40 games. Breakneck was the easy one.
-
40 games was the worst part.
-
Anything related to Gambit is a time-gate, yo. I learned that the hard way getting Reckoner. It's made me cold and unfeeling towards this game mode. I don't hate it, but... I don't really enjoy it anymore. 😐 But hey, I gotta play it for those tier 2 rewards, AMIRITE? 😃🙃💀
-
5 RepliesAnd those 40 games, even if most are wins, don't get you half-way to resetting infamy 😂.
-
40 games straight would be taxing for anyone no matter who they are. I kept my sanity and just played when I had the chance. At least losing doesn't impede progress and you can do other Gambit bounties in the mean time (hello Hush & 21% Delirium).
-
If playing a video game is too taxing on you just skip the quest. Do you think the average player got Luna’s or the recluse in 40 matches?
-
Edited by Corrick II: 10/10/2019 3:59:19 AMIt’s been so long since I completed it, but this reminds me how this quest, and that step specifically, absolutely ruined gambit for me. The other quest steps are whatever, but running 40 gambit matches not only put the nail in the coffin for me playing gambit, but it dug the hole, filled it in and then poured a slab of concrete on top. To this day the thought of playing Gambit makes me sick to my stomach.

3 Repliesnot only that but Breakneck is useless. Exit Strategy is useless. Hush is useless. Gambit weapons need to be stepped up. They suck ass. Only good one is Delirium. All the Crucible ones rock. Everything from Strikes aside from Oxygen (which even then still isn't THAT bad) are all really solid. Come on Bungie, make these Gambit weapons worth it. Breakneck serves 0 purpose compared to literally dozens of other autos and smgs. Same with Exit Strategy. And Hush? Why do that grind for an inferior archer's tempo? Like seriously? Couldn't the bow I dont know, live up to it's name? Like precision kills make you invisible? I'd use that for sure. Exit Strategy could've had an amped Battle Runner perk from D1. That would get use. Breakneck? Rework it. Give it something like an amped up armor piercing or high cal rounds that literally stun a target. It fits the name. It would make it potent in stuff with strong enemies, especially majors.
-
i literally wont play gambit anymore after i got the breakneck. that quest ruined it for me. 40 is exactly that, a time gate, and it ruined the experience for me. gambit is in no way fun now.
-
Edited by mdknyte: 10/10/2019 1:54:55 AMNone of these end game quests are worth it. They're just grind for the sake of keeping you playing so you might shop at eververse. All that crap you grind for is useless and goes in your vault. Don't put yourself through these stupid meaningless mindless boring irritating grinds. Take it from someone who got it, you have enough auto rifles. You use it once and go "haha, cool :)" then you shove it in your vault along with all the other crap you wasted your life grinding for. Man i hate having OCD.
-
It was the first pinnacle weapon I got but since then I'm so burnt out of Gambit. I haven't even touched in shadowkeep. I agree though, it encourages AFK no questions asked. If it is 40 games, they should have double the requirement of other parts to force people to participate in each game
-
2 RepliesIt doesn’t take long, after 7-8 games it’s all done other than the 40 games part
-
15 RepliesYou're crying about a quest that many of us suffered through over a year ago. Suck it up.
-
Suck it up. we all did it so can you

1 ReplyDid mine on a weekend and played all day to get mine. If i can do it so can you. 🍼
