Shadowkeep is good

I just wanted to share my first expressions of the Y3, and I think Bungie has done good. The lore is back with all those mystical, dark elements just as in D1, the weapons feel very good to use and the new finishers add just that extra flavor. Nice. Edit 1: I notice that there are many disappointed players commenting here, and I thought it would be good to give a few words about my perspective and my experience. I am day one D1 player, with several thousand hours on the clock, and I never left despite some really bad times, like Y2 dumb down. I thought that D1 player customisation was absolutely brilliant, and the D2 destruction of lore, simplification of the universe, gameplay speed and customization was such a let down. But Bungie has somehow managed to turn the game back to the right direction, and I see the potential in faster gameplay( at least PS), armor 2.0 etc. And I want to give them the credit for that. Clutch. Personally I like the story missions to be short, because having to do them 3 times is a drag. For me, Destiny is all about endgame, new Quests, dungeons, PvP in a universe which is complex and inspiring. And for me Shadowkeeps looks promising. I am sure we all have different expectations and I suppose SK cannot please everyone.

  • It’s lots of D1 all over again, but with the fun removed. Just did the Skolas mission, which is the old Skolas strike, but dumbed down with added boredom and grind. Bungie is now too small to make new content and is desperately reusing old maps and bad guys. Pathetic.

As someone who played a crapload of D1, I can say with absolute certainty that Shadowkeep has been less that exciting. While I do like that the story is making some small effort to bring about interest (I still don’t understand why everyone is afraid of the triangles), I will have to say that the rest has been a bit of a let down. Yes, the finishers are probably my favorite part of this expansion. The jury is still out on the new raid. I mean pretty much everything about this dlc has been a reskin. Hell, the trailer they added to the intro was leaked years ago back in D1. Every enemy is literally the same enemy we’ve already killed in the same location. Just with a red hue added. They didn’t even add anything different or “nightmarish” about them. Maybe Crota could have yelled some creepy stuff, or Ghaul could have given us a premonition or something. Idk. Anything would have been better than what we got! I about fell off my couch after doing the exotic Pain and Gain quest and receiving the Riskrunner. Was I supposed to be thankful for that? I’ve only gotten like 10 of those in the past two years... Wtf was that? The moon (while arguably a large social space) was great to revisit, but I mean come on the missions took place in the same areas we used in D1 :/ Don’t even get me started on crucible. Tho I love the changes to the Glory system and them giving us 3v3 back as well and two of my favorite maps. Those were great changes! The meta still sucks ass tho. I reeeeaalllly hope there are more cool things coming down the line. For the love of all that is holy, please tell me there are new guns coming. And not just reskinned ones 😭

    • It's good? Where are the new enemies, other than the reskinned "Nightmares"? Every location, every single location is a reskin. They bet the house on the newer players. The ones that never experienced D1, therefore have zero complaints about reskinned content. The rest of us? It was basically a "well they will have to like it, because this is what we're going with" moment. Exotics? Those are HORRIBLE. and the rest are "time gated", to extend the miles on the hamster wheel. But this forum is the wrong place for me to voice my OPINION, because the fanboys are relentless. Then to make the season pass exclusive ONLY to one account......yeah....Shadowkeep is great.

          • I do like the feeling of nostalgia in revisiting a moon that is kind of the same as D1 but then a bit different too. In fact for that sniper rifle essence quest I found the Horned Wreath almost totally by accident as I just followed that old D1 route to where the crystals used to be and there it was in the back being guarded by the unstoppable ogre. I have a feeling that things like this have been deliberately placed for those just on a "nostalgia trip" ;-)

I get it, maybe you're a lore person and I can see why you would enjoy certain things but lore doesn't make for the entire DLC. Same story mission as D1 The moon has added areas but it's still dead as D1 moon. Battel pass are not added content, it's paid timed content that is going to be removed. I ran one of the new strikes and like the rest of them in this entire game, it was a cakewalk I'm assuming the empty ship is the same old D1 strike, another cakewalk especially in D2 Factions have not been returned, and only a couple vendors at the tower got a smidge of an update that as of right now there are 39 sets of gear missing from this game that D1 offered. This tells me not much loot was added to the game other than Tess. Speaking of Tess, it's nice to know the new raid is getting her hand me downs, Awesome! This does not mean Shadow keep is good, it means Bungie didn't even try. Edit: Sorry people, cutscenes and the lore doesn't make up for the rest of the game that is lacking and that is a fact.

            • Oh man. I love this game and I play it a lot and I will play it for a while no matter what. But some people act like Bungie can do no wrong, like everything they do is the next best thing since we invented the wheel. Your standards for gaming must be really low. What did we actually get that we didnt see before? The finishers? Armor 2.0? We saw a pyramid ship? Is that it or am I missing something?

              • I disagree, any D1 player can quickly recognize that “new” moon maps were build on original D1 moon maps and it was part of original D1 game!!!so basically they resell D1 contents for $40.....again. GG bungo

              • Im a max grimoire D1 veteran, who has only returned to destiny in the past few months. I played D1 religiously, preordered D2 with high hopes only to be destroyed mentally with how bungie created it. Shadowkeep is amazingly good, its the first time or first expansion that I feel really tries to capture some of the nostalgic feel D1 had. Its creepy, the soundtrack is awesome, and the gameplay is fantastic. You guys can say what you wanna say, most of you werent here when vex mythoclast ran through the crucible in D1 when first released, you dont know the mistakes bungie can make.

                • Shadowkeep was OK. Nightmare hunts are just missions though and contain nothing new or interesting. The actual seasonal content is garbage though, a public event and a mode that's a massive step back from something like the menagerie.

                • I disagree. Story was short and left us hanging. Old content (Well, Menagerie, Forge, etc.) has no point in running anymore. Tiered powerful rewards doesn't make sense. Nightmares are re-skinned bosses with less mechanics. Vex Offensive is fun at first, but it gets old pretty fast. Moon is fun, but it gets pointless after a while (Need to kill Vex and Gatelord for a bounty, then nothing).

                • I’d give it a solid 7.5/10. Moons great, nightmares of fan favorite bosses is great, and we got to experience the pyramid ship without them cornering themselves into a linear story arc they can’t adjust. The reason I’m dropping it down to 7.5 is due to the massive amount of weapon reskins. Everything in Vex Offensive is a CoO prophecy weapon reskin. If they would have given lore to the reasoning of it then it would have been fine, but they didn’t so it just gets notched to lack or originality.

Nice.[/quote] I really can’t wrap my head around how empty this is. I was so confident this was going to be the best expansion Bungie has put out and I have put way too many hours into Y2 than I’d like to admit and bought the 60$ edition of this because I didn’t think I’d have anything to worry about. I was so very wrong. Recycled stuff bothers me less now than it used to this is mainly because Bungie is doing it by themselves now. Less people, less money, less resources all equal to more recycled stuff. Not that I like it by any stretch, I don’t, but I can see it less as lazy and more so them wanting to put more in without wasting so much time making entirely new stuff. It all just feels so empty, everything is the same, this game doesn’t evolve, it doesn’t grow, and it’s all just sinking in now. Everything is some slight variation of something else and the creativity just seems to be gone. Nothing about this makes me excited to play, nightmare hunts are shorter strikes, the vex offensive is another horde mode. I just don’t feel as though they hyped this up to be this big deal, this exciting evolution of Destiny but it’s not. I hope as it progresses they unveil more because of this is all SK has to offer, then Destiny 2 is dead to me.

                  • I've only just finished the campaign, but realistically the campaign is what should hook players into an expansion for the long term, this campaign is easily the weakest since Curse of Osiris and has completely failed to hook me. It starts off amazingly, we find a black ship, we need to get inside, and it all goes downhill from there. The loot pool for The Moon is exactly the same as the Forsaken loot pools, the story goes literally nowhere and ends abruptly and with no real closure. Assets aren't just heavily reused, the entire campaign is made of them almost exclusively, I can forgive them reusing large chunks of the previous moon map from the first game, but making every boss a reskin of an old boss, is just lazy. And the actual missions, I mean seriously we get maybe 5 actual missions that take us into old areas we've already played through in the first game, a good 50% of the campaign is spent doing basic sidequest-tier fetchquests for armour. We get the same tired public events, the same tired patrol quests, the same enemies we've been fighting since beta of Destiny 1. If the goal is to expand upon the campaign post release like they did with Forsaken, it's going to fall flat. Forsaken worked because the campaign was meaty, the areas were expansive, the scorned were decently different to fight against and the story had a satisfying (but not final) ending. Shadowkeep has none of these things to keep people hanging around for the drip feed later.

                      • Got to disagree. Story was so short and bad I didn't even know that it was over ( had to check online) And I find it funny how they just threw some leaves on the Lost Prophecy weapons and called them new content. Bosses are all the same old bs. Stomp stomp stomp!! Boring. Crucible is just as bad as always, was hoping the new buffs and nerfs would shake things up but nope. Same old repetitive bs, forced to use meta weapons to win. Boring. My only hope is that the new raid is good.

What are we celebrating here? A short two hour story that is solely designed to lead into D3, a reused planet with hardly any changes, barely any new exotic weapons/armor, or the mediocre amount of content available at release? For 35$ this was pretty pathetic. Rise of iron was made by a team much smaller, and IMO was infinitely better. There’s hardly anything to do that’s new or impressive, so after you hit 900, it’s just do everything that you’ve already been doing for a year, AGAIN! I don’t want to do milestones anymore just to power level for the raid. It’s so goddamn boring it’s not even funny. We hardly got new strikes, or new crucible maps as well. Armor 2.0 is just as limiting as the previous system, made specifically to artificially increase the grind, and it sucks. Shadowkeep was supposed to be bungie showing us that they can succeed after being released from activision, and THIS is the best they can do? I think bungie may have finally killed my interest in this game fully. It’s not even been a week and I’m bored of everything. Sorry, went on a rant there, but it blows my mind how people think this is an acceptable 35$ expansion.

Shadowkeep has less than half of Forsaken content for the same price. The new seasons look nice, but 10€ for content that will no longer be accessible, no thanks.
