Exotic armor is rare and exciting, but with elemental affinities it can be a straight up nightmare. Something like Lucky Pants or Oathkeeper can roll an element that won't allow them to equip any of the relevant weapon mods! Then exotics even have random stats. This makes the grind to get a perfect armor stats basically impossible to do because you can't rely on your exotic to drop, even over multiple seasons, with the right stat combination and the right element. You could play until the end of Destiny 2 and never find what you're looking for. For most players that doesn't drive them to grind harder, that will just piss people off.
