What's the point of Hunters?

I don't think they're underpowered or in need of a buff necessarily... but... What's the point of them? They can't outrun other classes in a meaningful way so the weak armor doesn't make a lot of sense. Their melee specials are often a mistake to use at all due to the incredibly passive nature of the perks. And their supers are just shorter, watered down versions of the other classes. I don't think they're worthless as a class. They offer some unique grenade opportunities and some really great exotics. But... in PvE their only worthwhile contribution is shadowshot and shadestep. Everything else a hunter can do a Warlock or Titan can do better. In PvP they're a fish out of water more often than not with Titans being a moving force of nature and Warlocks having to pay close attention to their resources for their own sake as much as their team's. Hunters in PvP? Ideally they'd be more maneuverable for the sake of changing each team's directional focus but... well they aren't more maneuverable. The base mechanics and focus on gunplay makes this more of an annoyance than a game breaking issue. But it doesn't really make sense. In D1 ability spamming is a real issue but every class has distinct pros and cons. Here we are with the same classes but with the hunter being very nondescript in terms of gameplay. I know I only have a hunter class and I know that trolls are gonna focus on that instead of what I've said. Honestly I just don't have the free time nowadays that I had during D1 and I haven't really "finished" my hunter yet.

  • Destiny classes represent different fighting styles and ways of weaponizing the light. Titans are the defenders of the City and it’s people. Their fighting style is very physical, and they use the Light to augment their physical abilities or the power of weapons. Hunters are scouts. Their fighting style is based on agility, skilled weapon handling and stealth. While the Titan fighting style is up-close and based on power. Hunters use range, speed and deception. They use their light to augment these functions, and their weapons. Warlocks are scientists, strategists, and spies more than they are warriors. Like their name suggests, they weaponize the Light and fight with it directly. Or use it to protect and assist other Guardians. But their intelligence and experience are as important weapons as their Light. Prior to Twilight Gap most fighting was done by Titans and Hunters. But the scale of the assault on the City brought Warlocks to the Wall and into the fight in the field on a more permanent basis.

  • Hunters are the scout class. The “assassin” if you will. Titans are the front line and warlocks are the healing class. The hunter is the high risk high reward class per being the barebones class for their agility and mobility. The WEAPONS do the killing. Last I checked, we all carry the same weapons. There are also hints for their preferred load-outs per d1 and d2. Titans got the auto rifle, warlocks got the scout, and hunters had the hand cannon. Hunters have been a key element in all of destiny per team mechanics and controlling ads. Not sure what you are looking for, but if you are missing something... then the game is designed for you to find something closer to your play-style per the other two classes. You want separations. That is the very design of the game and will be the bigger focus with the upcoming dlc. In pve, I find the hunter class the most enjoyable... In pvp, all 3 are great.. especially if you have your mind wrapped around the synergy and speed of the game. In short, try other classes. Find the one that is not lacking for your taste in gaming.

  • DPS and add control One punch arcstriders and celestial nighthawks are capable of stupid levels of damage, and arcstrider and tether make amazing crowd control

    • Lore wise they are the scouts and intel gatheres. Actual game play wise seems like their only role is to bounce around like little rabbit monkeys.

    • Celestial has the highest damage of any 1-off super by far, but requires you to be more accurate. Blade barrage is good at destroying ads, it’s not the best, but the subclass’s Neutral game definitely makes up for it. Nightstalker has the best ad control in the game for extended durations and can help a team out greatly. Arcstrider and Spectral Blades all have exceptionally good supers for ad clear (Arcstrider being #2 behind Stormtrance). Hunters have an advantage that no other Class has: survivability. Dodge is designed to help you stay alive. It’s melee’s aren’t the strongest, but they have exotics specifically designed to work around that. It has the best grenade modifying exotics and exotics across the board. I’m saying this as a hunter main. Hunters have power.

                  • Hunters are solitary in nature. They do better individually and from a distance. It's one reason why the second weapon they get is a sniper. Now as a group they try to help but Bungie screwed them over with not giving them a support class until late in D1.

You can immediately remove bosses with golden gun, especially with Nighthawk. Practice Makes Perfect helps you generate lots of Super for that so your team never has to deal with bosses. Shadowshot anchor is such a superb supporting ability that boosts teamwide damage and generates orbs You can contribute a lot as a hunter. Currently the only class I feel out of place with in pve is Titan. They're great for pvp

                        • Hunter is more like Jack of all trade class with really nature movement and movement control just like any of FPS games out there, so people played hunter more than 2 other. And one thing that everybody know, just hater never belive it (they alway said hunter is OP) is people play hunter for the cape lol. Warlock cloak is less cool and Titan towel is... xD. If anyone watch the new COD multiplayer stream you can see many people pick the operator with "tactical poncho" more than other operators xD

                          • They have better and easier to use maneuverability than the other two classes which is very valuable in a game with this game’s pacing and movement

Hunters have always been weak in PvE, but they are nowhere near as frail as they were in D1. Unfortunately they are also nowhere near as quick and nimble as they were in D1 either, but on the whole I think they are in a better spot in PvE than they were in D1. It's no longer a shock to the system switching characters to a Hunter from your Titan/Warlock like it was in D1. Back then it was advised to play your Hunter first each week because of how brutal it felt switching to your Hunter after playing the other two. Hunters are fine in PvP and pretty much always have been imo.
