D2 is lacking in what Destiny means

There’s no feeling of mystery or darkness in the game itself. The setting is played poorly partly due to the lack of changes in the music, and the style of gear in the game. Thanks to the stunning music in Destiny 1, and the gear types that made you look like an actual space warrior, not a cracked out cosplayer with no design formats. There’s no grandeur in exploring the universe. Everything seems so saturated and overused, because it hasn’t changed much. When I come to play destiny 2, the only reason I still play a majority of it is for the nostalgia and continuity of my character. Destiny 2 Needs a full character and menu overhaul. The pursuits tab is bad, the character screen with your gear needs new animations, and the director/orbiter is very poorly designed. There are no sounds when displaying the planets, only a measly “click”. Not only, but the planets are too close together. Altogether, there needs to be a revamp in Shadowkeep I hope. The overall theme of the game is lacking in what would display a space warrior fighting for their universe. It feels more like a chore to play the -blam!-ing game for loot to have fun. No reason to grind on planets because materials only drop 2 at a time, and is too tedious. No reason to grind regular strikes, and not much reason to buy from Xur unless you like going bankrupt. On another topic, the currency system is too displaced. Legendary shards are used for EVERYTHING. Although I’m not exactly opposed to it, there are chunks taken up by infusion and the costs need to be reduced heavily. I shouldn’t be throwing away half my inventory for a damn chest piece. Strange coins need to be added back to the game, as to that people can afford to use legendary shards more, and give people a reason to grind strikes for strange coins Also, strikes need heavy editing. Most of them are the same boss fight. DPS, immune, DPS. And not a lot of new mechanics. Strike Exclusive armor and weapons need to be in the game, why else would I play any more than three a week without? Dailies and weeklies are standing in the way of longevity. Perhaps rework how they are tied to loot. People most likely won’t find any reason to play more than the required weekly. Specifically, crucible. Why play more than 5 games in a sweat fest? No reason to. Why do more than 3 strikes for loot? No reason to. Why go back to the Dreaming City besides the 20 mins you can do the milestone in? No reason to. Any reason to go to planets besides the flashpoint? Nope. Mercury? Either delete it or overhaul it. Terrible planet. The content in the game is pretty dry if you think about it. I hope Shadowkeep allows us to break through the boredom of no power fantasy and the illusion of “better gear”.

  • This is mainly due to the fact that Bungie don't understand what they want Destiny to mean.

  • Shhhhhh No criticism !!!! You will make Bungie angry and they will systematically ruin everything about you . Oh wait that was Destiny’s destiny lmfao . The way they design is childish , as if a clown ran the studio that only makes the game for themselves . Ignoring tons of feedback and then doing their own thing anyway , seeing tons of great ideas in the forums then thinking nope our way is better . Then going from millions of players to a few hundred thousand and still thinking their way is best lol The Darkness was a thing right ? Or did I imagine it ? Now we just kill escaped convicts and do stupid gambit crap or busy modes that people are only happy when their cheating for the rewards . The guardians went from noble world threatening causes with the fate of the universe in The balance to mundane tasks ( forges , gambit prime , menagerie etc... went from heroes to basically errand boys/girls . LAMESAUCE !!!!!

    • Marty is long gone. Forget the soundtrack. Likewise, Joe is gone too, so forget about raids. John is gone too, but hey, we got to keep Luke. I’m sure finisher moves are going to save the day. Lmfao

      • You know, it's really how irrelevant everything is. Bungie has failed to layer the game appropriately and create substance for what we do, have and earn. I hopped on Destiny 2 to kill some time and the "magic" everyone speaks of that's "gone" comes from the emptiness of everything we've done. The cookie cutter grind design is antiquated and has become an insult to players who have grown with this franchise. Useless NPCs riddle this game. Useless seasons riddle this game. Useless events riddle this game. Useless quests, weapons and armor riddle this game. What does any of it mean? It seems elementary, but Bungie has failed to harness the "Becoming Legend" component. They killed the only entertaining character in Foresaken for no reason (other than a cheap tactic to create emotional substance towards sales), and the only two compelling characters (the drifter and spider) remain flat. Of course there's no motivation. We've been disrespected at every turn since launch. These days I wander around on patrol or sit in space thinking to myself, "This means nothing. It'll all be irrelevant next season, update, DLC, or whatever." The music, the worlds, gameplay etc. are wonderful, yet sad. It's an empty game of chores. The shader system alone is depressing. The abandoned sparrow racing? Customizing our subclass builds, gone. The recycled PVP maps were insulting. They could've just brought back all the old maps on top of the new ones. No one would've judged them. Lost Sectors don't have their own narrative or lore or weapons/armor. NPCs don't even relocate or "live". No matter what time of day or event going on, Devrim Kay is still wearing the same thing, doing the same thing, saying the same things, offering the same things at the same place. The worlds are mostly empty, save for repeated respawns of enemies. The Farm? Useless. We have exotic ships.... that do nothing. Same for sparrows and ghosts. We used to have exotic class items. We don't even have bonuses for wearing full themed sets. There's no motivation because motivation is generated with true purpose and reward. Reward that is built upon, not abandoned. Purpose that builds towards something that will not fade, and not become pointlessly recycled tasks (like chasing light level numbers). We have not become legend. Yet, we still play, hoping someday we may at least feel like we have.

        • Last paragraph in particular for me. I just played three strikes on my Warlock and am not even going to bother on my Hunter. Haven't touched my Titan this week apart from three Menagerie runs. Warlock rewards, so called Powerful ones, put me up one eight of a power level as these "powerful" rewards dropped in slots where I had higher equipped gear. So just a reward then. And prior to that I had to fly to the Tower and then the Tribute Hall just to pick up bounties. Why would I want to repeat that on my Hunter when I know that at least one of the three strikes will be the Hollowed Lair with Mr Immune every ten seconds or the Corrupted .. Ugh. Oh, and Blackout every second day just to add to the fun. I want to play what I want and rank up. Bungie are making a big thing about how the game is an MMO when in reality its just a game with a badly designed interface where, if you want to get ranked up, you have to play what they decide when they decide. There is no freedom of choice here with only alimited amount of so called powerful rewards every week. And even when you hit max level you know that in a few months it'll all start again. I am so tired of feeling like a hamster on a wheel. And a wheel that is broken. And I cant see it improving with Shadowkeep. I am seriousy thinking of cancelling my pre-order as it just seems they sat down, asked what they could recycle, and made a story out of it. And its going to be more of the same stale weekly tasks that, if you're lucky, might make a difference. I really think I am just getting to the point where enough is enough.

          • IMO it feels like Bungie is going away from the game being a looter shooter to just a bounty/quest game hoping for loot. Shadow Keep is not looking good when it comes to stats knowing how limited the game is at this point. There is a lot of legit questions Bungie is not answering and that alone should worry anyone that doesn't like the extended grind that could get a lot worse with this next DLC. I'll wait and see what happens but I will not pre-order anything from the Bungie today. They like to lie and hide too many things about what is actually going to take place, all the while playing it off that things will get better. In spite of what anyone says, Bungie's word is not to be trusted and they have proven that without a doubt this last 2 years.

            • Just call the game “Destiny: Bounty Hunter” god damn I’m so over this trash game.... I hope Shadow Keep tanks and D2 finally dies and goes away for ever!!! This coming from a guy who WAS a huge fanboy and bought everything Destiny and played daily. Now I just despise Bungie and Destiny and can’t stand the unimaginative, repetitive, boring, reskined pointless grinding the game has become with pointless quest step after boring quest step, all for weapons we already paid for and earned once before in D1.... seriously I hope this game goes away for good.

              • I'll add a small list of everything I currently have a problem with and dropping the game in September because. I agree with your points. My problems. I'll put this in a spoiler if ya dont want to see.
Bad loot, boring gameplay, terrible end game rewards, terrible and boring PvP, Gambit is a joke, everything in the strike playlist is useless beyond an upgrade to a meaningless power system, terrible leveling system, planets are useless beyond flashpoints, story is lackluster and uninteresting, Eververse in general, events are boring, classes all feel the same, there is no challenge, everything is the same aka no mystery or excitement, and finally boring exotic chases along with them being just boring in general.
• Don’t even get me started on D2 crucible, D1 crucible had so much to do with gunplay and just outshooting your opponent now it’s just fusion rifles literally beating scout and pulse rifles and shotgun titans in your face. The supers are so unbalanced especially with striker being just absolutely bullshit, my arc staff lasts about 10 damn seconds while I get killed by the same striker titan 3 times in a row, just because they can knee strike everywhere and regen super, the warlock supers don’t bother me to much but in all honestly hunter supers just lack unless you’re using blades and that’s not a fun super all you do is throw it once. The amount of shotguns and fusions to snipers ratio is awful and the fact that 100 percent of the gunplay is just secondary is just boring and makes crucible unfun. I want to be out shooting people with my hand cannon and not getting blown up by a truth or getting fusioned from across the map. I don’t know where y’all went wrong but it went from being a fun FPS rpg to a literal trash can

                    • I think house of wolfs was the was the last time felt anything resembling destiny. It’s not just the story of it the whole fabric of what makes up Destiny that has been water down just to entertain a minority at the expense of everyone else. I can only hope that bungie goes back to dlc instead of the annual passes and revive the old formula that made destiny in the first place

My dream would be to have a story mission as epic as the Minas Tirith fight in Return of the King. I would love to fight a really massive army and, for any reason, having a huuuuge power boost and obliterate all of them with an epic music in the background. I miss those epic feeling. The lore is epic but must of it is not directly seen in the game. A good idea would be to have 1 new class element based on the allegiance quest (I feel like it's coming for D3). Pure Light element for guardians who sided with the Praxis Order. Dark Light element for those who sided with the drifter.

                        • In their defense, they didnt expect a carbon copy of Halo to do so well. Story was an afterthought, as year after year went by and... people were still playing? BungieDude#1:Crud! Someone write a plot to keep this cashgrab going! BungieDude#2: My 9 year old made these drawings and explainations in crayon. BungieDude#1: Do it nao! And that, an elementary school kids wild, dissociative drawing, is now the basis for the worlds most popular looter shooter. Now you know. Feel better? I dont. I have to ignore all the dumb lore and rp my own story to get through it. Why? Because I like space cowboys and the gameplay is good. Literally hate every other implementation of anything in this game.

Eververse has consumed the game too much I feel. Like there is WAY more Eververse in D2 than D1 which did not interfere with gameplay/loot or had the largest inventory in the game. D1 Eververse was the best Eververse because no one cared about it and was not in anyone’s way. Btw did anyone know finishing moves are going to be tied to Eververse?

                          • For strikes, they need to bring back the old system from D1 where staying in the playlist makes higher level gear more likely to drop. Maybe add three of coins back in too. Then, also like the end of D1, revamp a bunch of the old strikes with better mechanics throughout and in the boss.

I dont understand this post. You say d2 is lacking what destiny means, yet you named things in d2 that make destiny, destiny. We get to run around using space magic and damn good weapons to kill everything, in a universe with a tremendous amount of lore, and a lot of dope music, that is destiny in the nutshell. You complain about things needing an overhaul, yet most of those things have been improved upon, they just look similar to d1 in looks (except that pursuits tab, that's trash). So if you didnt have a problem with it in d1, you shouldnt have a problem with it now (except that pursuits tab, which is trash). Also, saying the currency system is displaced, but then asking for more currency to be introduced? Lol come on, that's counterproductive. As for the 'reasons to play' part: dailies/weeklies were some of the main reasons people played d1, so that isnt new. Those, chasing that specific roll piece of gear/weapon you wanted, and completing collections were the main reasons people kept playing, same as d2. Along with those, the only other reason you need to keep playing is cause you find the game fun. The min you dont, then you should just play something else, but not ask for destiny to be something else/a new game. Just play a new game.

I was shedding tears (ok not really but I was sad for a bit) when our guardians were doing the sad walk at the beginning of the game and the music kicked in. Like, Destiny's music no matter what game will always touch our souls. Other than that yeah, the other stuff is poopy.

                            • Car guy analogy: D2 is like post 2000'sBMW. Every generation of cars has been "better" in every measurable way, but has lost the feel and the magic. Bigger, more powerful, more efficient, more reliable, but gone is cool factor of the "drivers car", the function over form design, the buttery smooth straight six and manual trans, the perfect handling balance. The creators of the '88 e30 m3 are long gone (as are the creators of halo/d1), and must be horrified at what BMW was become.
