Mr. Tassi once again brings up some interesting points and is unfortunately presenting the first worry I have about Shadowkeep and year 3 gear;

Year 2 essentially obsoleted year 1 armor in the game. This was a bummer for me and a lot of people because one of the best looking and last armor sets one could earn in year 1 was the summer of solstice armor and accompanying ornaments, but that armor became useless just a couple months later when Forssaken came out and changed up armor.
We know there's a change coming in year 3, but I think the announcement of a sort of transmog system of some type has lead many people to believe we will essentially be able to skin any armor set there has been on to a set of perks. Mr. Tassi notes that reading between the lines of what we've seen so far it is looking like this may really only apply to armor sets that were sold through Eververse.
This would potentially mean year 3 gear is going to obsolete most year 2 gear. If that's true I am super bummed because I'm just about able to start work on the Menagerie set and will be none too pleased to find it's useless a month or two after I get it.
What has always had me suspicious of this that Mr. Tassi also touches on is how some year 1 stuff reappears as updated versions. The Exodus Down set, Mida-mini, Drang. Better Devils, etc. I've always wondered why Bungie didn't simply update the gear to the current system rather than bring a year 2 version of the gear. Is it because they basically can't for some technical reason?
Lastly while Bungie should clarify this, if it's true there's a good chance they won't. Because to confirm these suspicions is to basically tell people it's not worth grinding for that raid gear or that menagerie gear because it's going to be obsolete come September.
Never the less.....
BUNGIE, PLEASE CLARIFY!

I think the no answer is all the answer we need. They've been very deliberate about side stepping it in communication. All we know is eververse is only compatible with new armour, so it's not a stretch to think it's the same for all of it.
