Thoughts on Luna/NF nerf (TL:DR: RPM change is good, perk change is wack)

*title For starters I have the gun, so I have perspective of both sides here The RPM change is needed for a number of reasons, one is that the gun is too oppressive and has reigned for far too long; when a gun is the sole meta for half a year somethings gotta change, period. You give the easiest gun to use and get kills with in the hands of the best players, and you get a s***show. Headshots are not hard to get with a weapon that has perfect recoil direction and no kick to the point that most of the time you don't even need to compensate by aiming down. The RPM it is at means all other handcannons kill slower than it besides 110 RPMs with a damage buff. I get it, the gun takes time and effort to get, but look at every other pinnacle weapon, especially the crucible ones; they give an advantage given the right scenario and are oppressive ONLY in that scenario, recluse is #2 for best but it only works at extreme short ranges and a little further with the perk active, Luna/NF are oppressive at almost all ranges and in every scenario comboed with extreme ease of use, hence why there is one in every game. Just because you invested a lot of time into it, doesn't mean you get to have a clear advantage everywhere for all eternity. Now for the perk change, I don't like it for a few reasons: 1. It encourages poor skill play by aiming for the body instead of another headshot. 2. It destroys it's ability to shutdown supers, which are already too hard to kill in my opinion (D1 had it right for damage resistance). 3. PvE usage is destroyed, you can't really sweep ads or DPS bosses with it (Which doing so doesn't come at the expense of another person's fun like in crucible, so it's alright). As well as it feels bad to start shooting the boss' body when DPSing, and nobody wants shooting to feel bad in a game that's like 90% shooting. 4. You no longer get those moments of two tapping someone wounded in PvP and then two tapping someone else at full health with the perk active. Sure, that's crazy that you can get what is essentially a free kill, however it is an example of being exceptional in a rare circumstance, like Redrix's but even less often. It only happens 1-2 times in a match MAYBE, so I think it's alright purely because of how rare it occurs. Edit: Some wording and spelling Edit 2: This only really applies to console. Because recoil doesn't exist on PC other handcannons are a lot easier to use, and are viable in regular play against Luna/NF. Sure this is a nerf into the ground for PC, however we can't leave 2 platforms in constant suffering just so one platform's gun can feel usable, I know it won't be good post nerf on PC, however it's worth sacrificing a single gun on PC in order to save the entirety of Crucible for Xbox and PS4

  • I was fine with the change to 150 as that's a slight buff to it's raw dmg. But keep Mag Howl for crits. I pretty much only PvP on the weekends with my friends so for must part, I use this gun in pve. It's probably my most used handcannon ever, until Hawkmoon comes back... 😉 The change for it to only deal extra body damage is utterly stupid. Who the blue hell actively goes for body shots in PvE? Enemies don't take diddly Doo for body damage cause Bungie WANTS you to go for crits. Crits = Kills Same in PvP.

  • I agree 100% escpailly in pve, I loved using this gun cause it felt like a pocket Polaris lance. Maybe bungie can revert the changes if enough people dislike WHEN the change goes live. IDK it just feels like they are nerfing way too hard recently. Whisper, Ikelos, Rapid fire sg. Lets hope for a string of BUFFS next time :D

  • It kills LH function for pve. Rewards not aiming for crit spots, so essentially the perk does nothing. It’s now worse than a random legendary.

  • When will you people realize it's not a Luna/Luna nf nerf it's a special weapon buff.... The nerf wont make bad players better your just gonna get killed by special weapons more....

    Except the perk would be literally worthless in PvP (somehow even more than with the proposed perk change) because you can already three HS kill people with 150s. At least there's some situations where you'll miss a headshot and still get a kill with the new perk + RoF.

        • The perk should have been nerfed to where the shot only does extra headshot damage and only applies to the target it was procced on. Aim assist and stability should also have been nerfed. Taking away the selling point of the weapons is ridiculous.

            • Agree with it all. I could accept the RoF change, but the perk change is ridiculous. You should always go for the head. I’m about to get it next Tuesday, and I was looking forward to using it everywhere. With the perk change, it’ll be useless in PvE. I think that what should happen is that the perk can still increase all damage, but not to the point where it can three shot-head shot guardians, but 2 crit-1body. This way, it can still be viable in PvE while keeping the base change for PvP.

              • I absolutely HATE the change to its perk, It’s completely killed its use in PvE. It’s not the best hand cannon to use in PvE but it’s definitely fun, but what’s fun can no longer be in Bungies standards...

              • Don't nerf magnificent howl. Magnificent howl is good to use in PVE too. Magnificent howl is a high skill perk, not everyone can 3 taps every time. 2 headshots and 1 body will make it useless, I just want to enjoy the gun even in PVE. About '''players could get 2 headshots on one enemy to proc Magnificent Howl, and then defeat another in just 2 headshots''' this is not happening often.

              • I'm actually excited for the RPM nerf and the whole 2 head 1 body will still make it the best 150 in the game. Then the fact it doesn't take an exotic slot. Two tapping feels good but overall Luna is just a boring gun as is. I hate the 180 RPM playstyle. I can see everyone going to recluse now, then again recluse is an absolute melt machine. After the Luna/NF nerf I'm hoping for a sandbox update to see where the meta shifts. I'm gonna say it'll be Pulse or everyone on the planets favorite Dust Rock/Recluse and hammerhead.

              • So breaking gun(s) in pve is alright? Bungle logic or lack there of. Not so much of a pinnacle weapon post nerf, tell my why anyone should ever chase a pinnacle weapon again. I’ll save you the typing, no reason to chase pinnacle items.

              • My biggest gripe is the perk change. It will completely ruin the guns for pve and for what. Getting rid of the two tap potential. Rarely happens in games.

                • They are only reducing the headshot damage to not allow an insane ttk with the buff to damage the guns are getting. They are going to be doing more damage per shot, hence the change to the perk.

                    • It should be left alone when using a mouse. Add the same bloom n recoil to 180s on console and problem solved. You also lost me on them being oppressive at all ranges. On pc ace already dominates both at longer ranges and last word does the same at shorter distance.

                      • Here's how I see it, it's increasing the TTK and making it so you can't 2 tap people anymore. They aren't nerfing the overall damage by much, mostly just the dps. Right now these weapons can do over 240 damage in 3 shots, if you had the perk procced you could do 254 in 2 shots. They are keeping them precision frames, but reducing RPM while increasing damage to match 150s. This means you can still 3 tap to the head, but [u]assuming Magnificent Howl's damage doesn't scale with the damage of becoming a 150[/u] that means once you get the 2 headshots you don't need to be as accurate since you can just aim for the body and get a kill more reliably. 68x2=136+97(MH buff)=233. That's not much of a decrease. Besides, I understand PC doesn't have many problems with these guns this nerf finally puts other primaries foward a little. The only primaries that could match or beat these guns in TTK or other circumstances were TLW, buffed Thorn, buffed Recluse, buffed Monarque, buffed Redrix, and I think Warden's Law and buffed Ace if their resilience was low enough. There is no reason why one weapon dominates PVP for as of the release of Opulence about 9 months, especially when a lot of these weapons were obtained through paid carries, recovs, or in the case of 1 guy I know changing something in network settings to force him and 7 of his friends into matches with each other which I think I'll be very surprised if that isn't bannable. If it isn't then I know what I'm doing for the next 20 some matches from Fabled 2.
