I know nobody will see this or care but I'm an average to sub-average player that just got his Luna's Howl completely solo and I had to share. I never played D1, but Destiny 2's PvP has given me that something extra that I haven't really felt in a video game since raiding in WoW. Love the gunplay, love the supers, and when they first came out I was determined to get a pinnacle weapon but since I can't use a mic and my stats are bad I had trouble finding groups, I was on my own.
Season 3 kicked me in the junk, I was at around 1300 glory when the new matchmaking rules kicked in and I never stood a chance, I got stomped and flooded with hate mail asking if I had both hands, to stay out of comp, etc. Went from a 1KD in comp to a .8 and never really recovered. Seasons 4 and 5 were more of the same, endless comp matches where I was outmatched, lots of hate mail, but still I persisted through the negativity. Committed to learning and improving. Then along comes season 6, bless you Bungie for making the change to Glory points, it actually made it possible for a player like me to reach Fabled (almost, waiting for reset.)
I was terrified that the Revelry event would make it again impossible for me to get to 2100, even tried Stormcaller and arc web but just didn't work for me. I'm a Voidwalker main and had to stick to what I knew, plus a charged-up vortex grenade still catches a lot of people off guard.
Got to 1700 last week but then dropped down to 1450 - I was discouraged but not defeated, and honestly last night could've been a breaking point. If I dropped back down to under 1000 I'm not sure I would've been able to keep trying. But last night, the stars aligned:
Games 1&2: Matched against the same 4-stack of arc hunters spamming skip grenades. I played ok, not great, but our teams lost. Not a good start, but I kept going.
Games 3&4: Got paired with a 2-stack, one player was decent but the other was an absolutely monster, carried us for these two games. I played well, but this dude was the only reason we won.
Game 5: Close game, I played well, we won 6-4 countdown. Hmm, now we're getting somewhere.
Game 6: Got the short end of a 3v4 matchup. No way. NO WAY! Rather than despair, we fought through it, I played well, and we pulled off the win. Ohhh so close now.
Game 7: Manna from heaven. 4v1 and I wasn't the 1. I felt bad and just tried to dance with the poor sap on the other team while my teammates murdered him, oh well. I'll take the win. Looked at my glory score. I had a 5 win streak and was 1 win away from victory. I couldn't believe it.
Game 8: Got an all solo countdown matchup, sweet I might actually have a chance. Quickly lost the first two games badly and knew that if this was going to happen, I was going to have to be the difference maker. Then it happened. Like SSJ2 Gohan fighting Cell. Like Will Ferrell debating. Like Star Platinum rising from JoJo. Slayer Hefty appeared out of nowhere and went on a rampage for the next six rounds and would not be denied. We won 6-2 and I let out a shriek. I did it. I freaking did it. 1994 glory points. After reset I will log in and collect Luna's Howl, MountainTop and Recluse.
Thank you to all the great players that carried me when I stunk, and sorry to all the players I dragged down with my potato play early on. If you're like me, an ok player that has been struggling to get over that 2100 mark, don't get discouraged, keep going and improving! You will get there!
Edit: Wow what an overwhelming response, thanks for all the well wishes everyone, and good luck to you guardians still fighting for it!

Looks like bungie respected your time and effort here. Just in time for the nerf.

Shame lunas is getting a deadly nerf

I am a slightly above average player and I’m just glad I solved mine before the forsaken meta was defined and turned into the mess it is right now. (Also nova warp)

2 RepliesGratz!!!! I keep trying for it myself, but solo queue rng is just too hard against me.
-
2 RepliesCongratulations. Consider me tempted to try it myself. But after 25 comp games for the Redrix I know that I would ruin a lot of people's progress with my """""""skill""""""". So...congrats, have fun with it, but I accepted to never have it in my collection. 😉

Congratulations. I'm working on the glory step. It's a long and painful road ahead.
-
Lol. They made comp so easy this past few seasons .

21 RepliesThe posts about people getting Luna's during this Comp Mayhem are getting more and more. At this point you should just give them to anyone.
-
1 ReplyI too managed to solo comp up to fabled today. I'm still working on the lunas quest but have been enjoying the recluse in the meantime. Did it with relative ease though up until the end. Not sure what everyone's problem doing this solo is.

Well done mate. Didn't read your post. (Too long) but got the gist of it.
-
Way to go, keep it up guardian.
-
Great job! Good to hear things like this.
-
Time to get Not Forgotten.
-
Congrats to you, but as a solo player that hates those extremely long games that require communication to effectively work on bomb setting or defusal, I just couldn't do it. Was watching my rank diminish far more than increase and I found the frustration to just be ultimately not worth it. I wish that there were equivalent ways to get those top tier weapons in regular crucible play, which I enjoy, but hiding them at the top of a Mount Everest of sweaty ball sacks was too much for me.

5 RepliesDoesnt mean shit until the revelry is over.

Congratulations guardian, enjoy your well earned rewards.

6 RepliesI missed something here, what exactly did Bungie change to Glory ranks in S6? Must’ve missed that weekly update or something. Might come back to try for Not Forgotten if the changes are enticing enough.

37 Repliescool? am i suppose to care?

enjoy man, i dont care to relive "shindig in the crucible" every day

Good job! I can’t take the pain to even try.
