I initially put this on Reddit a while back but it got super downvoted, and I doubt anyone from Bungie would see it there now.
I love the Destiny universe. It's an enthralling, dark, whimsical and mysterious place. It's an escapists dream, and you've done an excellent job at crafting great gunplay and very memorable moments in the strikes, raids and one dungeon.
Names of exotic guns have been thrown around in tongue-in-cheek manner in conversation with friends for years, and it's a very good series.
The game have kept my mind occupied and helped me congregate with friends through working a part time job while living at home and putting myself through undergrad, two breakups, my mother and my grandfather dying, moving to a new state, getting into management and now as I am in my second semester of grad school.
Destiny has been a great companion through all of that, and in glad to have fond memories of it. However, my enjoyment of the game is severely diminished in the last year because the game simply does not respect my time.
The RNG nature of many titles makes it so I will likely never have a covered medal on my shelf as a symbol of my achievement in the game and the memories it creates. I still do not have several exotics from base Forsaken and even the base D2. So many of the in-game rewards (and some IRL rewards tied to those in-game items) are just totally out of my reach.
Destiny 1 fit into my life because all I did when I was unemployed and wrapping up school was play games. Now, I work 40-50 hours a week plus study, have a relationship with a great partner, etc and I can't play enough to earn the items and rewards I want. It's not enough to set a priority and "just work on it."
D2 is what it is. I know it's not going to change significantly, even despite your breakaway from Activision (huge congrats on that, btw). But maybe you can make d3 game that I can enjoy as an adult with a full time job and other obligations. I don't want to feel like I can't enjoy or get involved in my favorite fictional world because the game will not reward my time. No matter what is done, my "10th better devil's" or in my case my 50th Edge Transit or 20th Trackless Waste, etc are not fun. Nor is my 10th Tractor Cannon.
You're on the right track, but I implore you, please make D3 a game that respects my time and has a more rewarding grind and gameplay loop.
To;Dr I want Destiny as a hobby, not a lifestyle choice
p.s. get rid of the limited time eververse stuff and flooding the market with ghost skins etc.

1 ReplyIncreasing the drop rates for coveted items is reversely a slap in the face to those of us who put in the time to grind out the items. I can appreciate you wanting better loot, but also understand that players like myself do get annoyed after these sorts of patches where people who have only done the raid a few times already have 1/2 the drop log.

1 ReplyI am all for taking things a bit slow and enjoying the journey, but this is like driving through Kansas slow. And I live in Kansas lol. Don't wanna have to live that equivalent in video game land too. Just the other day I was messing around in patrol on Titan and thinking, man I remember when I could actually advance doing this stuff. I could log on for 30 minutes and actually have made progress towards something with patrols, chests, public events. (Yes the dreaded token system that actually gave you light level boosts.) I didn't have to log on with an itinerary where I am like 15 minutes for a nightfall, 30 minutes for crucible, then 30 minutes of random farming for the ever so exciting forge quests I am still working on, oh and 1 hour of grinding to get cores for meaningful infusion. Uh oh, I forgot to go get my bounty from this person. Guess I have to do one less crucible match so I can fly back to the tower, AND go buy 2 enhancement cores from Spider. Still working on my allegiance quest. Gotta go run around some random place to get my enhancement core and vanguard weekly drop. Every time I start one of those I just decide to put it off and go play something else lol. And I LOVE Destiny. Don't be this Destiny! Don't make me now use the word meaningful as a joke with my destiny friends. I WANT to play. But I don't want to feel like I am falling behind because I just want to chill and have some fun. It's like having those vacations where you plan a million things. Sure it is fun but you just feel burned out afterwards and need a break lol.

Well said and done my friend, your opinion is logic to me :3

5 Repliesso you don't have all of the loot in the game and it's Bungie's fault? so you gained a job and that is Bungie's fault? I really don't get what people like you expect from a damn game. you are not owed a damn piece of loot or title in a game. your game and time are not disrespected because you didn't get one. if your real life is more time consuming that your time to invest into a game you like, that isn't Bungie's fault either.

1 ReplyEdited by CaptainW1nky: 4/10/2019 1:32:58 PMI mean... that's what happens when you become an adult. Especially while in a relationship. You have less time for friends/hobbies. Anywho xur sells forsaken exotics and the fated engram now can drop forsaken exotics.
-
5 RepliesI believe the division 2 does a good job of respecting my time. In fact if you ask me the division 2 makes destiny 2 feel so dated. I remember when destiny launched, I thought it had so much potential, especially with bungie at the helm, unfortunately my expectations have not been met, with the exception of forsaken, that took a step in the right direction. Down with cores for infusion as well.

1 ReplyRespect your time and stop blaming others for how YOU choose to spend it
-
Tbh I am 700 and have most weapons including exotics. Doing the exotic quests and pinnacles all together took me maybe 25 hours over a span of 15 weeks. This game is not the grind it used to be. Obviously you forgot about the soft cap/hard caps of D1. #completeyourmilestones

2 Replieswhat are you even on about?

1 ReplySounds like you're having a great time with the game. You shouldn't feel like you need everything to enjoy it though. Some shit doesn't drop. And other shit may be out of your skill level to acquire. So long as you're having fun, who cares?
-
1 ReplyVideo games were built to kill your time and turn you into a mindless mush-brained game player. You respect your own time by using it properly. Bungie doesn’t own your time—they make video games; they do not produce life-altering miracles that makes you happy. It’s like telling a liquor company not to get you drunk when you drink their alcoholic beverage. The choice is ultimately up to you. 👍🙂

57 RepliesFook your time I play video games to waste time and have some fun. Write a thesis or end world hunger if you want it respecting, dont whinge on a games forum because your not exactly saving the world with it. FFS, what is wrong with you people.

1 ReplyTo out it simple; you don't have the time for the game so you should find something else to occupy your time with. They shouldn't cater to every. Single. Persons. Needs. Find another hobby as gaming is most likely over for you.

Destiny 1 fit into my life because all I did when I was unemployed and wrapping up school was play games. Now, I work 40-50 hours a week plus study, have a relationship with a great partner, etc and I can't play enough to earn the items and rewards I want.
Bro, this isn't Bungie's problem. YOU are choosing the wrong game to play, given the available free time that you have. It fit your lifestyle just fine when you had no job and minimal other responsibilities, and now that you're far more occupied, you're upset that the game hasn't adjusted for you? C'mon... All game devs have to draw a line at some point when it comes to deciding what demographic they want their game to be most accessible to. They can't constantly be adjusting the game every time someone comes in complaining about not having enough time to do everything the game has to offer. Even if they tried to, there will always be at least one more complainer that has more jobs, and more kids, and more responsibilities and less time to play than the last person...should they adjust the game for them too? No. They set out to make a game with a lot of stuff to do. There are plenty of other games out there with less to do. If you're going to continue playing (and enjoying) Destiny, then you need to accept the fact that you may not get everything done every week, that you may not get all the best items, or have time to do the more time-intensive things like raids... If you can't come to terms with those things, then it's a sign that you need to find a different game. Take Apex, for example - this is a game with no real progression or things to gain outside of cosmetics for the most part. You can jump into this game at any time, with large gaps of time in-between, and still be at essentially the same level as everyone else. There is zero pressure to log in and complete tasks every day...because there are no tasks. It (for some) is just a fun shooter you can happily log a few games with and then sign off. This is a pro for people with little time to play, and a perhaps a con for those that prefer a more permanent sense of accomplishment and progression (as with Destiny). Now, maybe you don't care for Battle Royale games, that's fine, this was just an example. Apply it to any other fitting game genre and find something that melds well with your available time.

5 RepliesThis is what happens when streamers speak for the community. Sweaty Crucible. No skill based matchmaking. RNG hell that turns Destiny into a pissing contest. Pinnacle weapons that make lopsided defeats even more one-sided. Repetitive grindfests that lack creativity and imagination.
-
34 RepliesBungie gets to decide how to make their game. Just because you have a job that takes up most of your time doesn't mean that an entire company should cater to you. I'm sure there are others out there with a similar situation as you, but Bungie shouldn't feel the need to change their game just because some entitled casual wants it to be easier so that they can do more. If every game was as easy as every casual wanted, the dedicated players would be bored out of their minds.
-
1 ReplyD2 definitely feels a bit too grindy at the moment. There are too many quests and activities that have tedious and repetitive requirements and most of the time the rewards don't feel satisfying. I'm hoping they tune this down in later DLCs.
-
6 RepliesTo be honest i do not believe the game loop and weekly reward grind is particularly exciting or rewarding. The season pass of supposed end game content has been a bust of time gates and boring quests and horde modes which should really have been free live team content drops.
-
Won't happen. Nothing and I meand NOTHING in this sequel has had a good time vs reward ratio. I felt more rewarded when I spent a Vacation day helping my buddy through 8hrs of VoG with all challenges than I have doing ANYTHING in D2. I don't think they know how to fix the ratio even though the playerbase has told them some grand ideas how.

2 RepliesReddit is trash.
-
They've found their core audience, people who love to grind and will put in 50 hours for one item. I think they're just waiting for the final few people who will actually quit over infusion cores to leave and their locked in to who they want to keep around. The people who would relate to you are getting pretty thin around here these days, not surprised you got downvoted on reddit.
-
Unrelated, but i hate reddit posts that start with
can we just take a minute to....
-
12 RepliesIf destiny is a hobby then it already respects your time. For instance, the enhancement cores, the ones everyone is up in arms about is a perfect example. The more you play the more you will have, a very real and direct reward for playing more. There are piles of examples of players time being respected. I do have to say that there are others aspects where time is not respected, Seals and the rng on some of those items.

Titles are obtainable. Its respectable to a degree when a person earns a title. Rivensbane, you know for sure theyre long term raiders. Or Unbroken. The madness of reaching legend across 3 seasons. All the titles are respectable in their given category especially with the amount of time needed to obtain.
