The goal of the infusion system is to create an impactful feeling of progression when you increase the Power of an item you enjoy using. An infusion system with no scarcity around the materials would diminish this impact.
~TWAB
I'm not sure who, or where this impactful infusion came from but its more frustrating to infuse now more than ever. I wont speak for anyone else, but an "impactful feeling of progression" should have been work-shopped more, or play tested. For seven months all I have been doing is infusing the high light leveled gear into the armor set my guardian was wearing before you increased the light level.
One reason being I like the armor I have and its stats. Anther being the very hard to obtain mods and mod components I put into each piece. Once I find a play style I'm comfortable with I stick to it and very rarely have to switch it up unless I'm going into pvp and that's only switching a weapon or two, maybe an exotic. There isn't much science that need to go into what I infuse because there aren't very many game modes that require me to switch up my play style, and that's fine.
For the last few season I very rarely switch armor. I have a select few I have to re-infuse back to max light and it doesn't feel impactful at all as I am just chasing light where there is no real reason to do it. It feels like a never ending slow race with walls at every turn.
In destiny 1 an impactful feeling of progression meant beating a raid and getting adapt weapons, ornaments, and amazing loot. Actual endgame content and light to chase. In destiny 2 It feels like the light chase is the endgame content. And that grind is getting old fast/
I keep hearing players say "don't infuse until you are max light" But in that statement they miss the point and the obvious problem for a lot of players. Where is the fun in that? Again, not being able to use my favs isn't enjoyable.
My issue is
One) I don't want run around using two sidearms and a linear fusion rifle in the nightfall or strikes just to do max damage. Now not only am I not playing what I want to get the loot or light I want, I also have to use armor and weapons that make everything that much more annoying?
Two) The new armor that I now have to wear doesn't have the mods, or perks that I had to grind for. for seasons. This also applies to yr1 loot btw. I had to experiment with items to find my most comfortable play style.
Now, and with each new season, I have to run around with 8 mobility, 3 resilience, and 3 recovery, two sidearms, and a linear fusion rifle because I shouldn't infuse until I have max light loot...which could/will take upwards of 4-5 weeks to get which brings me to my next point...
Three) Vault space is also taken out of the equation. Yes I can delete times I absolutely don't need, but there are a lot of items I and many other players have that can't be reacquired for reasons. Some items cost bright dust, other are locked because of the current collections page system. The list goes on. Vaults are getting full.

That is the goal the infusion system, but if the overall system is causing a negative experience, we want to work to improve it. We’re constantly monitoring the infusion economy to see what kind of impact it has on gear usage. We keep a close eye on the amount of infusion materials being earned versus how many are being used and will continue to make adjustments as needed.
~TWAB
All over the forums I have been seeing players voice their concerns about this system. For months now. Ever since forsaken released. Actually about a months after forsaken released I distinctly remember that exact line "We’re constantly monitoring the infusion economy". That was close to eight months ago bungie. For close to eight months players have been saying the exact same thing. Your actions and words speak volumes. And I don't feel respected by anything you've done for the last few months. I had hoped that things would get better when I hear you dumped activision, but now I'm not so sure. You seem arrogant and cocky more than ever. Simple solutions would be to just add more core to more activities and bounties or completely remove them. Next point...
The Gunsmith will now offer a selection of daily and weekly bounties that can be purchased for Gunsmith Materials. As with the Scrapper Bounties, each of these will include, among other things, an Enhancement Core as a reward when completed.
~TWAB
Season of Opulence? That's a few months off. First thing that popped into my mind reading that was 'I'll wait until next season to play because right now I'm burned out'. Second thought that popped up was "'what if this is another eververse "trying something new" thing' I can only hope this fixes the issue, but I know It wont. Bungie keeps gradually...slowly...in very small increments trying to fix major problems months later and ultimately failing because of the baby steps. Plus something doesn't sound right. I will have to wait and see, but I have a gut feeling that core will still be an issue. Not to mention that's a few months off.
Sorry for the salt and the rant. I know bungie will likely ignore this. I just had to say something.

Very eloquent decisive and to the point On top of all what you described I'm so sick of a few people crying about something being oh pee Oh that's Hopi the super is Opie so what binds you do they notify everything why do you guys when you build something you've created it you've tested it you've obviously said okay this is good to go so leave it alone quit nursing things it's ridiculous. I played destiny from day one hitting the loot cave grinding shit out beating oryx on three characters every week we can we get out the Vault of Glass was the best saying you guys ever did and it was the first one maybe you need to go back to your roots because right now honestly I'm done I've already paid for all this shit season passes all the new bullshit that's coming out but I'm not going to pay for play to win and I'm not going to pay to look the way I want to look so I went and spent $189 on the division 2 dark Zone version

Nicely said.

Have to bump. Well written. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Edited by CatMan: 3/22/2019 9:28:28 AMWow dude, bump. You went all out. Pretty much sums up my experience. I'm playing -blam!- fortnite rn....yeah that's how bored and pissed I am with the progression system and masterwork cores. AND 7 months of grinding for cores and light. Edit: it's like they don't see the terrible loop they put players in with this shit system. The other day I was doing milestones and kept getting arm pieces, so the very last arm piece I got was the highest so I infused it into a piece I already had because I liked the stats and I had a mod slotted in it already...I get a -blam!-ing powerful engram and guess what the -blam!- I got...another arm piece. Not only am I getting shit RNG, I have to stop using good shit for this new useless shit just because the new shit is higher in light. Like you said, I only ever infuse into what looks best on my guardian, and also if I already have mods and perks on armor. Only reason I'd ever put mods on armor is because I liked the perks.... That's a rare occurrence. Bungie is choosing a very strange and stupid spot to stand ground.

I feel like this video adds to all of what you said beautifully and I only read the first couple of lines. I'm trying to get this video everywhere on this forum because this is what Bungie and all devs who make games like this need to focus on. Please help me. Thank you so much for your contributions. And thank you devs for all your hard work.

As an older gamer I agree. I do need to work on my core. Too many Doritos and Mt Dew's? Thanks for the PSA, I will definitely work on this!

Impactful experience? Positive Impact: Getting Jotunn before it's nerfed (oh well), finishing an exotic quest, getting that last hard to reach egg, a successful raid with my clan – especially when my clan mate gets the weapon he wanted, a higher score in a Nightfall, earning a title, meeting cool blueberries who become friends, chilling and laughing with my clan and friends, getting that elusive nightfall or EP weapon to drop, melting a boss in record time, earning a triumph, finding cool stuff while ascendant, getting a weapon/ sparrow/emote/exotic/etc I really wanted, being first on the leaderboard in Crucible or Gambit. Negative Impact: Chasing light, infusing higher light gear into the gear that fits my playing style, piling weapons into my vault that I hope to someday infuse to be useable again, grinding for cores, playing the same content over for new stories/quests, NERFS, being slaughtered by sweaties in PVP because average/below average players are paired against above average players.
One) I don't want run around using two sidearms and a linear fusion rifle in the nightfall or strikes just to do max damage. Now not only am I not playing what I want to get the loot or light I want, I also have to use armor and weapons that make everything that much more annoying?
I will never understand why people think this. You get 0 extra damage for being any higher power. Using a 670 sidearm is not giving you more damage than a 650 well rolled weapon you had from last season. Just use your old weapons, and new armor until you reach max power. Only time you should use new stuff this season is in reckoning if you're not at 670/680.

Bump. Pretty much sums it up.
I keep hearing players say "don't infuse until you are max light" But in that statement they miss the point and the obvious problem for a lot of players.
This was pointed out by another player in a different thread, but it bears repeating: If the point of a leveling system is NOT to level things up until you're max level, then the leveling system is broken as a motherf*cker. Good post, OP.

I agree completely and your points are absolutely valid. It is this type of perspective which should have been considered prior to the decision to include them in basic infusion.
-
Nail on the head. Well done. An extra point: cosmetics are part of this game. If my Warlock looks like crap there will be hell to pay.

1 ReplyThird week into this dlc. All three of my characters will be 700 by Sunday. Only infuse your main weapons, and only wear the higher gear when you need to. Infuse fave gear when you reach 700. I work a job 55 hours a week, and can still get it done. Granted I have no kids at home, so that helps.
