No other game I’ve played makes me feel like I’m being punished for not playing it.
This game has turned into a brutal Skinner Box.
These Xur Bounties are just the latest iteration of trying to cultivate FOMO among dedicated players to hang on to them.

2 RepliesActually the invitation form the 9 aren’t punishable if you miss a week no worry you can pick up next where you stopped

5 RepliesIt's amazing that we've gone full circle on this. Bungie was reamed in D1 Y1 for the game being a skinner box. They did a 180 through D2 Y1 and now we're back here again. I'm equally pissed at Bungie and the community who allowed this to happen. Bungie for never having the stones to stand behind the actual good design decisions and the community who begged for this abuse to come back. Anyone who ever spammed "dead game" "D2 sucks" or any other of that bullshit all over the forums and social media last year that have problems with where the game is now can get bent because they're just as much to blame.

5 RepliesYou must not play very many live games

1 ReplyEdited by BossCharacter: 3/8/2019 8:38:19 PMThey are not weekly, they are character based so you miss out on nothing. FOMO is the dumbest term since it’s mentality that you choose, not one that’s forced. But I’m not gonna stop you from being petty. Just felt the need to chime in. Carry on, skippy.

2 RepliesI think I heard somewhere that they said you’ll still be able to get them at a later time if you miss them initially.

2 RepliesEdited by Master Chief Garbage Colle: 3/9/2019 11:18:25 AMNot sure I like the clickbait title OP took a page from Buzzfeed for. Yes it worked, but really?

2 RepliesDon’t play then

I just learned two things today: FOMO and Skinner box. I always understood the concepts, just never knew the term for them. Worth it!

5 RepliesI swear none of you actually played destiny 1.

2 RepliesHow do you get Xur bounties? Saw him yesterday but he didn’t have any.

1 ReplyEdited by blade329: 3/8/2019 7:45:36 PMI actually had to look that term up. I would say that's pretty accurate description of Destiny 2. I went along with it for a while, because I liked the stronger loot/space magic we've gotten since Forsaken launched. However, Bungie is steadily devolving back to it's old ways of destroying the very reason to play the game, with a steady stream of nerfs. They just keep sawing big holes into that Skinner Box making it easy to escape. So, I really don't care if I miss anything. It won't matter. Even if I were to get the coolest loot available, they will just nerf it a few weeks down the line, while giving me the middle finger.

12 RepliesWay back when CoO almost destroyed the playerbase, Bungie decided they would "start designing for the hobbyist". If that isn't you, then the game probably isn't going to be as fun. I know some people don't have as much time on a daily or weekly basis to "keep up" but that's the beauty of it. Players who are just now at BA level, are just now playing BA, and that's ok. I have full-time work, 2 kids at home, and not nearly as much time as some others, but the game is still my hobby that I play in my free time. I still get about 25 hours a week in, which barely enough to "keep up". The game doesn't have to be completed the day it releases, in 6 months, you can still play forsaken or jokers wild or anything. It's not going away. The problem is people feel like it's not worth doing if it can't be done at the same pace as everyone else, but that's their anxiety and issues, not Bungies fault. FOMO and needing to be first in everything is a YOU problem. You can still be a hobbyist if you don't have a lot of hours to play, you'll just be further back in the pack, and what's wrong with that? If the game isn't fun, it isn't fun. But it's not a rule that you have to play 50 hours a week to play. That's your own ideology.

15 RepliesOperant Conditioning with Intermittent Reward. It isn’t like a Skinner Box. It IS a Skinner Box. Which is why I keep making caustic references to the pigeons that were used in a lot of the early research on conditioning.

1 ReplyGuess you never played ark or rust. Those games really punish you for not playing

4 RepliesI had a feeling this gambit dlc would be a disaster when Luke smith showed his face.

Which xur bounties are these? I went to see him and he only had exotic items.

4 RepliesTier 2 of the Reckoning is at 670 and Gambit armor drops in the 630s. Looks like Satan got his promotion to investment team lead.

You want a game that punishes you for not playing? Have you ever heard of a little title I like to call Animal Crossing?

5 RepliesWow. The fear of missing out. I don’t think I single phrase has described how I feel about the game. Don’t get me wrong it’s a really fun game and I love it, but if I miss I single day or don’t get at least 3 or 4 gold tier medals a day in crucible, I feel awful, and it’s like I really missed out. Idk
