Same thing I've done in every other loot-based game I've played in the last 20 years. Set about to making alternate builds, experimenting with different play styles....and optimizing the ones I use most frequently.
IOW, how I spent the last 4 years playing this game BEFORE Bungie made this stupid decision.
You infuse your cool old gear up to current max levels, but they're missing a mod spot and random rolls
That's not what I'd do. All the Year 1 Legendary gear that I was interested in, has already been infused. What I'd do is infuse the Y1 exotics that I want to play up to max level.....and GRIND for particular rolls that I would want. But then that kind of "horizontal power" grind is pretty standard. in games like this...
What Bungie is doing is making VERTICAL progression (damage dealing and damage resistance power) into an RNG affair with Milestones and Infusion cores.. Which is a FOUL. Its like gambling in a casino where the House CHEATS. Continuing to gamble there doesn't make you a superior gambler.
It makes you a stupid one.
Out of curiosity, what would your loadouts be if you had unlimited cores for infusion?
I typically craft **situational** ones that suit particular play style...and tactical situations. It both optimizes my performance in that setting...and keeps the game fresh from a play stand point.
For example. On Titan..and in the "hoard mode" activities....the game emphasizes close combat. So loadouts emphasize ARs, SMGs, shotguns, LMGs...and the related armor perks.
OTOH, play on Io, EDZ, and Dreaming City take place of long distances. So SRs, bows, and PRs now become primary of choice. Fusion rifles and Trace Rifles are the special weapons of choice...and Rocket lauchers start to be useful without the risk of blowing yourself up.
Strike play list play falls somewhere in the middle.
Then there is Crucible play....and respecting what ever is the meta there.
Then there is Gambit play with PVE-oriented loadouts....and PVP/Invading oriented loadouts.
Armor builds for Dreaming City where the mods given you a significant damamge bonus....but the mobility armor for warlocks is a disadvantage in places like the Forges where you have to tank a lot of damage in close combat.

THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE MEAN WHEN THE SPEAK OF A GAME HAVING **DEPTH**.
TLDR:
The things you can do...and the number of loadouts you can craft are only limited by your imagination....the different ways you can enjoy playing.....
....and cores.
Because Bungie has changed the game in a way that PREVENTS me from doing what I outlined above...and forces me into running two or three builds that I now pretty much have to play EVERYWHERE.
Because Bungie has changed the game in a way that PREVENTS me from doing what I outlined above...and forces me into running two or three builds that I now pretty much have to play EVERYWHERE.
I'm just a casual potato who cares more about the way I look than what situational perks my gear has so as long as my guardian looks cool to me, I'm good, so my ignorance is my bliss. I'm obviously in over my head here, so I'll see my way out.
