Primary ammo finder is a perk to use if we are running special weapons that use white bricks with low ammo reserves in our kinetic slot. Shotty, sniper etc. Like, the new raid shotgun 'threat level' that is better than ikelos. Comes with 21shots or whatever. Once youve used those shots...you need to find ammo. You arent gonna get it from special ammo finder,as it uses kinetic ammo. Shotgun reserves only add to your mag. So what do we do? Hmmmm....we use primary ammo finder in place of special ammo finder. *edit* i was wrong about threat level specifically, but my point is some specials can use kinetic ammo, like fighting lion.

  • Fighting lion is the only excpeption much like the kinetic shotty and sniper from D1. All other special weapons in the kinetic slot use special ammo.

  • The fighting lion is the only one that uses white bricks despite being a nade launcher. Kinda the exotic trait about it, similar to no land and universal remote taking primary in D1. Aside from that no other special can use white bricks

Well it might not be rocket science, but it is a change, and honestly you might be wrong. The below is shamefully stolen from the link also below. https://ryanmarkel.com/85393/understanding-the-destiny-2-2-0-weapon-slot-system/ With patch 2.0 to Destiny 2 this past Tuesday(8/28/2018), the way weapons and ammo are organized within the game has fundamentally changed. It’s been confusing for some people, so I thought I’d try to explain it, if possible. To start, here’s the easiest way to look at it: The slot a weapon is in and the type of ammo it uses are no longer the exact same thing The top two slots determine what ammo a gun uses based on the type of weapon, not based on the slot itself (white or green ammo) All weapons in the third slot take the same type of ammo (purple ammo) Ammo bricks now drop differently, with white ammo being most common, green being less common, and purple being the rarest If pushed to write this in one sentence, it would be: weapon slots and ammo types have been decoupled. At first, this sounds very confusing. You may be tempted to think it means you can place any weapon anywhere, which is of course not true. And the way ammo drops and fuels weapons has had to change to be very similar to the Destiny 1 system, to prevent players from running out of ammo—so long as they are using one gun that uses white ammo. Let’s look at the rules of this new loadout system: There are three weapon slots, determined by the type and amount of damage caused by a weapon. Kinetic Energy Power The type of ammo used for each weapon slot can vary and is determined by the weapon’s archetype. Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Scout Rifles, Hand Cannons, Sidearms, and Submachine guns always take white ammo regardless of damage type. Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, Fusion Rifles, Trace Rifles, and single-shot Grenade Launchers always take green ammo regardless of damage type. (There are some Exotic exceptions to this rule.) Multi-shot Grenade Launchers, Rocket Launchers, Swords, Linear Fusion Rifles, and some specific Exotic weapons of other archetypes always take purple ammo. If you are using more than one weapon of a specific ammo color (white or green) when you pick up ammo bricks, the ammo will be distributed equally between those two weapons, proportional to their damage capabilities. To clarify: the number of rounds given to each gun will likely be different, but the total potential damage given to each gun will be roughly equal. This is a clear evolution of the previous two slot systems. It has a well-defined risk/reward structure related to the weapon archetypes you choose to carry. Would you like to run a shotgun in both the Kinetic slot and the Energy slot? You can, but it’s much more likely you’ll run into ammo problems because the two slots will share ammo pickups, and green ammo drops less frequently.

  • I understand what youre saying. I was wrong about threat level using white bricks, but my point remains. There is specials that use it. Fighting lion being one

  • I’m pretty sure this is bait, but the ammo a weapon uses is independent of its slot. Kinetic ammo and primary ammo are different now, as energy ammo no longer exists. The threat level shotgun does kinetic damage but takes special ammo, therefor primary ammo only works for pulse rifles, auto rifles, hand cannons, etc. The OP is saying that primary ammo finder is useless as primary ammo is super common, and he perk apparently bugs out other ammo finder perks.

  • I just checked, i was wrong about threat level using white bricks. But you get my point. There is special weapons that use it. Like, Fighting lion uses kinetic bricks right?

  • Yeah fighting lion uses it, but that’s the only one I’m pretty sure. And it’s perk drops full ammo on a kill, so the perk isn’t too applicable there. Maybe running double primaries like breakneck and monarque it could be useful, but then again there’s also scavenger peeks. In my opinion all the generic ammo finder perks seem a little pointless.

  • If im right in what ive just read though, it appears if we run a special in the kinetic slot, and special or primary ammo we pick up distributes evenly between the top 2 slots. So if true, primary ammo would still be just as useful to find as energy if running a special primary right?

  • I’ve never tested that, however I think in crucible every time I pick up special it gives a little primary as well. It may be worth looking in to.

Its not bait. My point remains the same. I was wrong about threat level using white bricks though, i just checked. But there IS special weps that use primary ammo. Like fighting lion and others. So different wep, same point.

  • Kinetic ammo and primary ammo are completely different. Just because there are special weapons in your first weapon slot, the kinetic weapon slot, doesn’t mean that primary ammo finder works for special weapons. It only works with weapons like bows sidearms pulses hand cannons etc.

Kinetic ammo IS primary ammo. I think there is a misscomunication here somewhere because we're focusing more on slots than ammo

  • But special weapons take only special ammo. Even if a shotgun or sniper is in the primary slot it only take special ammo

  • Look at what type of ammo it takes. Hand cannons and pulses and ARs take primary ammo and shotguns GLs snipers and trace rifles take specials. FL might just be an exception because it’s an exotic

  • Please don't spread misinformation. Shotties in the primary slot use SPECIAL kinetic ammo not PRIMARY kinetic ammo Primary finders boost PRIMARY droprate not KINETIC droprate It's a huge yet simple distinction perfectly explained in perks wording. that's so simple to grasp it's baffling.
