I don't. That is until they get in my face about how eating meat is wrong. That's when I introduce them to my fist powered by the consumption of meat.

I don’t think of them at all. Unless they’re in one of their incessant diatribes about how they want to force their way of living on others.

3 RepliesWhat people want to eat is their business. But then those people need to realize that what I eat is none of theirs. Good fences make good neighbors.

It's a pressing moral question, and one we should probably take seriously. I'm not sure I buy the moral arguments fully, but we probably do need to treat animals a lot better. Meat eating is also a major contributor to climate change and environmental destruction, so there's a compelling consequentialist argument against it too. That said, I'm a hypocrite, and I'll continue eating meat, though maybe I'll cut down on it once I'm out of college and have the flexibility and resources. Tbh I just want lab grown meat to become good and affordable so I don't have to grapple with this question.

I cook for my daughter whose vegetarian. The rest of us are omnivores. It’s not a problem.

1 ReplyAs someone once said, if you're vegan, that's fine. If you’re vegan and won’t let me eat meat in front of you because it disgusts you, I will hold a hotdog eating contest in your yard.

From my personal perspective it seems that most value the lives and livelihoods of other animals, animals we truly often do treat in abhorrent ways to get cheap meat. The type that generate viral videos are not the type I encounter in everyday life, so I think the vocal minority is negatively impacting the image of every vegan. Im talking about the type that don’t feed their cats or babies animal products and protest butcher shops - you should realize this is not most of them. There are also people who have specific dietary needs who choose vegetarianism, but I assume you’re not talking about them.

1 ReplyThe terms "vegetarian" and "vegan" come from universal ancient native american terms that mean "bad hunter" and "really bad hunter" respectively. That is my stance on them.
-
As long as they leave what I eat alone, I'll return the same favor.

2 RepliesEdited by Uncanny_Vale: 12/12/2018 8:59:20 PMI think from a sustainability standpoint vegetarianism/veganism makes a lot of sense. There’s almost eight billion people on this planet. That’s almost 5 times the population there was 100 years ago (1.6 billion in 1900). Raising meat requires a lot more recourses than raising crops. So eating as much meat as we do is simply unsustainable environmentally long term. https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2018/may/31/avoiding-meat-and-dairy-is-single-biggest-way-to-reduce-your-impact-on-earth
The new research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% – an area equivalent to the US, China, European Union and Australia combined – and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife. The new analysis shows that while meat and dairy provide just 18% of calories and 37% of protein, it uses the vast majority – 83% – of farmland and produces 60% of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions. Other recent research shows 86% of all land mammals are now livestock or humans. The scientists also found that even the very lowest impact meat and dairy products still cause much more environmental harm than the least sustainable vegetable and cereal growing.
Having said that I’m a total hypocrite. I lack the willpower and moral conviction to become vegetarian. I like the taste of meat too much.

2 RepliesWait, what do vegetarians think of vegans? Do they joke about them like everyone else? Do they defend them? What do they do?
-
1 ReplyTo "my" people, being vegetarian or vegan is normal. I guess what I think about them is that they make good food. And while I personally like to eat meat, I do think the ethical case for veganism is pretty much impossible to ignore, and at some point "I like meat" will stop being a good enough excuse.
-
Indifferent because most are decent people that are just concerned about doing what they believe is best for them. The issue is that the crazies are the loudest and get the most attention so when you say vegan the first thing that comes to mind is that woman walking into a restaurant talking about her child the chicken that she saved and crying before chanting "it's not food, it's violence". Those are the vegans that nobody likes, but we all love to make fun of.

Keeps the line short at DQ

Sure they're fine, unless they feel the need to get preachy. I don't want to hear about how I'm killing animals. Just let me enjoy my bacon burger supreme in peace

4 RepliesAs long as they do their thing and don't bother me about doing my thing, I say more power to them. In the meantime so, I am going to eat me a -blam!-ing steak!

As a vegetarian myself, other vegetarians, and/or vegans can be annoying when they act all high & mighty, or try to firce others to join them. On the flipside, non-vegetarians can be just as annoying, when they try to trick vegetarians into eating meat, or judge them because they don’t. To both sides; just let people eat what they want to eat.
-
As long as they’re not overly public about it, it’s fine, but the minute they tell someone to do what they’re doing that’s when it’s wrong

1 ReplyI've enjoyed the company of vegetarians and vegans many times. They have the freedom to eat what they want I have the freedom to eat what I want. It's a beautiful thing.

One of my best friends is a vegan. As long as they are chill and let me eat my steak/chicken/whatever in peace, they’re good in my book.

As long as they don't judge me, I won't judge them.
