Enemy strength is wildly inconsistent from match to match.
Sometimes I chainsaw through mobs like they were typical mobs on a patrol map, easily killing one add per pulse burst. Other times even red bars take 3/4 of a clip, like I'm trying to solo a nightfall or something. I've had rounds where I could barely scratch orange bars without resorting to special or power ammo.
It's not a catchup thing because the effect seems to be in place during round one. I also don't think it's consistent between the teams because usually, when my team is struggling with ultra-powerful mobs, the enemy team is merrily collecting motes like it was any normal round of gambit.
It really sucks because it makes the mode feel even more unfair, and the mode felt pretty unfair to begin with. Is it some sort of poorly implemented and backwards handicap system? Is it just random?

2 RepliesEdited by Stari: 11/17/2018 10:54:06 AMIt's the same like in PvP: inconsistant. The one match your weapons are doing normal damage and the enemy is taking normal damage and the next match you die from one bullet and your bullets don't do normal damage. I think the problem is poor P2P.

7 RepliesAh, you're noticing match manipulation in it's full effect my dude. Do you know what 'Padding' is?
-
2 RepliesIt's a catch-up mechanic in full swing. I went through something similar last night. On the last round, the Vex became invulnerable. We come out of the Dreaming City building and the Vex are already in the home base and from all sides. I'm like, "WTF?". We were surrounded and died many times losing a ton of motes before finally clearing them out. The game gave the other team a guaranteed victory with that mess. What exactly is my incentive to stay in a match like that? I knew full well right at the start, that we were going to lose round 3 no matter what.

3 RepliesPeople still play gambit? LOL To get what? Blue weapons?
-
Yeah. Had our entire team wiped by a hydra and a couple goblins in the first round the other day; second round we were dropping the same enemies with trivial ease. Sometimes we end up with second-round-category enemies in the first round, or bad hit registration, etc. The subsequent rounds get harder as usual, but the first round can be weirdly unpredictable.

I thought I was the only one who noticed this issue.

I love the turrets/shriekers that map you....so fun

13 RepliesThe mobs auto-scale to your power level, so that the matches are even....and you can't win by just stacking your team with max power-level characters. So the enemies start out feeling more tanky than other parts of the game. Then the enemies get more powerful still from one round to the next, as the game wears on. So it IS a handicap system....but it actually makes the matches MORE fair...rather than less. So the game is a more of a test of skill and efficiency at PVE....and not just raw power.

5 RepliesIs is this satire, because the enemies get stronger each round and most teams use supers and chain them.
-
3 RepliesIt’s probably something to do with the catch up mechanics, although if you believe what bungie say it isn’t. You are right though, it’s very inconsistent.
-
1 ReplyGotta love the moment that a Hydra can 1-shot and obliterate you for no reason.
-
1 ReplySecond and third rounds make sense, but I've seen wildly inconsistent results in multiple first rounds. It's bizarre when suddenly it takes twice as much hits to kill something in the second full match than the prior.
-
6 RepliesIts called damage ref..been in the game for years 👍
-
Have you noticed it happened after you won the first round? See, there are some sneaky little mechanics that happen and it's not just primeval stacks lol...
-
Same problem here. I run out of EP shotgun ammo and have to tickle everything to death with go figure for the rest of the round because secondary won't drop.
-
1 Replyexperienced the same.. i assume everytime this happens means the enemies are f-ing noobs, lets give them a chance -.-
-
Yep, been seeing this for a while. I know there's catch up mechanism but even at that, there's times Would Captains are almost immune. Yellow bar Scorn that jus sponge out..
-
I've noticed this as well. I don't know if it's a big or they just randomly assign monster strength at the beginning of the match. Sometimes a thrall or war dog can almost one shot me and I can't take more than 2-3 hits from a cannon fodder mob. It almost feels like trying a raid or night fall when super underleveled.

Edited by Jamiecchi: 11/16/2018 5:30:25 AMI've noticed this as well. I'd be moseying around the map killing adds with Sidearm and then all of a sudden the adds on one of the drops will take 2 clips and the yellow bar guys take 4-5 clips of a 13 round side arm. I noticed the inconsistent difficulty from one mob of adds to another.| Other than the Taken blockers and invaders, the Malfeasance seems pretty weak against the adds. A whole 15 clip and more sometimes to kill adds, wth is this nonsense? It makes zero sense to me. Meanwhile the other team can seem to get to 75 motes in a minute or less.

Happened to me many times too. Did you win on the previous match ? Its like Bungie doing balancing W/L thingy. It happen in PVP too. What I did if it happen...just take a depth breath..just shoot other thing or invade. It's like pay back time...maybe Bungie buff me on the previous match. So..Do not leave because it kinda mandatory Lose or Sadness. Its suck that the game is rigged. But...yea...Its happen to everyone. Not you ...Its the Game.

5 RepliesI think it has to do with light level scaling being buggy lots of people feel stronger on lower level.
-
1 ReplyI think I know why. The Drifter says they called out their Heavy Hitters or VIP’s. I think this means every round gets harder with round 3 being the hardest.
-
1 ReplyDifferent variations of spawning enemies. Sometimes Legionaries will have Skyburners Oath, or have Acrius or the Centurions will have that grenade launcher. Sometimes Collossus will spawn with Cabal, Shriekers with Hive etc. Then there is the thing that has Round 2 being more difficult for the winners of Round 1.
-
I've noticed this as well. One match I'm OHK'ing all the red bars with my shotgun. On a completely different match, with completely different players, they take two to three hits. O.o
-
I hadn't really thought about it until I saw this post, but you're absolutely right. Sometimes my Subtle Calamity will one hit any red bar with a head shot, the next round it will take two or three head shots. WTF Bungo?
-
Heh, I thought it was just me. One game I was melting through even yellow bars and bosses with my Sweet Business with my underlevelled Warlock, but the next I'm having difficulty killing lower level adds with my Titan main with the same gun.
