The endless level grind, terrible infusion system, slow PvE cooldowns, and countless bugs have already ruined Forsaken for me.

What was wrong with the leveling and infusion systems from Year 3 of D1? Were they not annoying enough for the elitist neckbeards? Grinding for levels isn't fun. Grinding for gear is. Why are ability cooldowns still slow as hell in PvE? Bring back Intellect Discipline Strength. The mod system is garbage. Mobility Armor Recovery adjustments belong in the skill tree like they were in D1. You guys took a great system, and made it crap. Blind Well should function like Archon Forge and drop powerful gear. Strike specific loot, faction packages, and exotics should be powerful as well. Like they all used to be. Solo players should have a way to max level outside of raiding, just like they did in D1. The whole "soft cap" bs needs to go too. Just let us level up, so we can actually play the game, and grind for cool gear. I've played since the D1 beta, and this endless grind is the least amount of fun I've had playing since you made us re-level our exotics in Dark Below. Getting screwed out of powerful rewards by bugs that should have be found by play testing, makes the game even more frustrating to play. My "powerful" drops this week are the same level as what I have equipped. How does crap like this make it past play testing? The more you guys make D2 like D1, the better. I was having a hell of a lot more fun with Taken King, than I am now. inb4 the elitist trolls come in here act like the game should be WoW, and insult me, even though I've played thousands of hours since D1 launched and know what is fun, and what systems work the best. EDIT: Now there are different tiers of powerful gear lol? And another soft cap at 520. Great design choice, Bungie. Throttle the shit out of leveling to the point where it becomes extremely frustrating, and people get tired of it, and stop playing. You guys really do have no idea what you're doing. Make leveling and infusion like they were in Year 3, and the game will be fun again. Right now, it's just annoying to play.

  • Infusion is ruining the game. Now I just wear any old ugly armor that has the highest level instead of infusing gear that I like. I don’t try new weapons because I have to dismantle them for parts. It’s more of a shopping game than a shooter. Collect 500 pink hearts and earn a new purse for your Barbie! The grind is awful because repeating Baron “adventures” is major boring. Locked room anyone? The Far Shore map is just like Mars and Mecury - same old ugly crap with the same old bad guys. Dull.

Forsaken is the proof that Taken King was an anomaly. All these devs can do is cater to youtube "content creators" and streamers because the marketing and sales division wants to make them into "promoters". Honestly, I am going to play D2 because I bought it but I am not returning for D3 unless its good but I doubt that it can unless they sack these worthless devs. Moral of the story. We are not going to get good content out of this dev team. They have proven over a year of this game being out that they are utterly incompetent and should not have their jobs. Also, I don't understand why we have players who still obsess about making the Leveling and power level system a grind. You only gain the full benefits of your power level if you are in specific zones while a majority of the zones in the game lower your power level to the zones power level cap. So, I am to spend hours grinding gear that will only have full benefits of its power level in Tangled Shore, the new raid, and the new strikes. Other than that Every zone lowers my power level. If WoW BFA did not suck I would probably move over to that and uninstall D2.

    • What’s killed it for me is the whole bungie talking about all the secrets and hidden treasures around the dreaming city.. I went and grabbed most of them.. All useless junk.. Public event chests hidden all over is what it ended up being.. After that I can’t help but think Bungie is full of clueless people..

    • Couldn't agree with you more. If I had known clearly about all these soft caps and progression throttling being built into Forsaken, I wouldn't have bought in. Jokes on me, I suppose. Unless they change course on this, I'm now 100% done with Destiny. The loot chase is fun as hell. All this chore grinding is a waste of my time. Let the neckbeards have it. They don't have much of anything else.

      • This update basically made the game worse for me in almost every way. It's depressing, honestly. I held off on getting the game for nearly a year after release, finally buy it, only for this to happen a couple of months later.

        • I'm interested to see how Iron Banner will factor into the overall power level of the player. As it is right now, you need to pretty much no-life the game to be "raid ready", and the vast majority have much better things to do than no-life the game in September (hey guys/gals - this is beautiful golfing weather!). Perhaps IB will allow a faster progression like in D1 Y2 and Y3. The game needs to still be accessible and relevant to players that have only around 9-12 hours per week (which is actually substantial - though some would deem it only as "casual").

          • Forsaken is a STEP...in the right direction, but far from great, as usual Bungie makes it's trade mark, one step forward and one step back. For every improvement it seems there's always an equal breakdown some where else. Credit where credit is due though, I asked for friendly AI, they tried to give us friendly AI, asked for more lore, they gave us more lore, asked for Skiffs (threshers and tomb ships) and they gave us a Skiff. asked for a shank shell (as well as a harpie, servator shell) and they more or less gave us a shank shell. They listen in some places but sadly ignore in others.

          • What is really ruining it for me is everything requires you to have a fire team now. Acendant challenge, blind Well.. I can't even get another new subclass because nobody is ever at the well when I go there. No matter how many times I respawn in and sparrow there. No one. I'm going to have to find a fire team just to get another subclass. That is ridiculous. Also the insanely low exotic drop rate is depressing. Not just because it's low but because you have a higher chance of getting a year one than you do a new exotic. I've gotten 5 exotics across two characters so far and only 1 was a new one. My Hunter didn't get an exotic for 15 hours and then gets Aeon Swift. Straight Trash!

            • Worry for me is the thing thatmade Bungie so good years ago....attention to detail and acting on feedback.. D2 immediately isolated the loyal playerbase and the pop died fast. The fact is was so bad was used as grounds to salute the changes we now have 1 year later. After the investment in DLCs, and base game and forsaken, tbh I just think thats laughable. 2 years to make a good game, which it shouldve been at launch, a 1 year of that was like an open beta we paid full AAA retail for LOL Bungie has one of the biggest dev teams and has got other studios in to hep, which says everything. Their tools arent up to scratch, their deadlines now determine how much testing they clearly do (noting they STILL have loads of loot/rewardbreaking glitches) Bungies attention to detail has gone. The games dont seem polished at all. Changes take far to long compared to even smaller studios. If they had kept D1 and added to it, do u really think we wouldnt have more than what we have in D2 now? Is not even a case of not being able to afford D2, with all its costs and add ons, more the fact it isnt value for money compared to the rest of the game industry, one where eve EA are scrapping DLC costs and lootboxes. Hate to say it but Bungie doesnt have the time, nor the tools to make polished titles that are fully tested. Forsaken is what D2 should have been at launch, not £150 or 3 games worth of value.

Im trying hard to give bungie a chance i'll give them a few weeks to determine what they can do to fix and make everyone happy im hoping they say what there planing to do insted of being silent about the issues.

                • Same, today I'm done with the Petra bounties after I saw I needed 80 dark fragments for the weeklies, and there is no way in hell I'm wasting that much time grinding boring shit. And seeds of light being tied to an event that has no LFG or gear above 500 is slimy, it's keeping people grinding in the most unimaginative ways. Not even to mention item infusion... I was so stoked for this expansion, it's added tonnes of cool stuff but tieing it to hours of mindless grinding just to grind a bounty is a$$holish and is killing it quick for me. Red Dead in a few weeks and Battlefield V, then Destiny goes back to logging in for a raid and then out again. Their new overzealous 180 degree pivot to massive GRIND GRIND GRIND mentality is going to cost them players.

                • The more I read about Forsaken, the more I think I may just be done with Destiny. So far I'm not regretting not buying this expansion. If you asked me during the HoW days, the TRUE pinnacle of Destiny when we were POWERFUL and there was unique gear that was POWERFUL and EVERY piece of gear was easily able to be used thanks to Etheric Light even from old content - If you had asked me then if I would ever stop playing Destiny only a couple years later I would have thought you were an idiot. And here we are. Man they fuqed this game up SO bad. Literally unbelievable. How do "certain" people still have a job? I wish I could shit my pants at work with decisions like we have seen in Destiny since D2 and keep my job.

                  • I'm bummed I can't upgrade my new monarchy faction set. It just isn't economical in any way. So I'm stuck with whatever gear I get from power drops. I'm not a fan of this expansion. I feel really restricted. Destined to wear equip what bungie forces my way. Don't even get me started on crucible. It sucks being forced to equip certain weapons because they are essential to maintain light level to acquire better drops. That's downright stupid. I'm stuck with whatever weapons aren't going to penalize me on power drops. So yeah I have to use a shotgun, handcannon and a nade launcher. And only because I need the light level to stay 413 so I can acquire decent drops. Did I say I feel restricted?

Pretty much made most of the same complaints last night with members of my clan. In vanilla D2, one of the biggest issues was that abilities and supers were ridiculously slow. Bungie addressed this over time by adding in masterwork weapons (so we could get our fasters faster), then added in the Go Fast update. Forsaken feels like the Go Fast update has been reverted and masterwork weapons are few and far between. So we're back to vanilla D2 where we're waiting forever for grenades, melee, and class abilities unless we get a lucky roll on gear. But since most of us are still treating gear as disposable (no real point until we're closer to 600, not with the insane costs on infusion), even if we get a good roll, we might not have it long enough to matter. Infusion is just stupid. I had no issue with the increase in glimmer, shards, and planetary mats but masterwork cores is absolute overkill. Especially since we need more of them now to, you know, masterwork our gear. And lastly bugs... too damn many to count. In fact, I just logged out from frustration due to one. I finished all three of Petra's weekly bounties but the damn offering to the oracle bounty DID NOT count towards the weekly challenge. I was at 1/3 after finishing the Ascendant Challenge last night, 2/3 after finishing the Blind Well grind one today. Hoofed it to the watchtower, gave the offering, bounty completed and turned in... Petra still shows 2/3. Spent the better part of my weekend game time grinding Tier 2 Blind Well events and still haven't seen a single subclass item drop. Did another 4-5 today working on the bounty, still nothing. Locking subclasses behind an Archon's Forge style RNG system is ridiculous. Yeah, I'm putting this game on ice for a while. It's lost its luster already, one week in. If you're not grinding all of these multiple reward systems several hours a day every day, you're screwed. Even if you do, you might be screwed by idiotic bugs.

It's funny how some of the gamers on here are acting like there is "so much to do in forsaken". It wasn't hard to please them at all knowing Bungie didn't really offer anything in the first place. Take it away from them was like taking candy from a baby and after they cry enough, give it back to them and watch them praise us lol.

I'm alarmed by this progression system. While lessons were learned from pre-Forsaken D2 it seems many lessons went ignored. The grind for Max level 100% SHOULD be faster by doing Endgame activities with Raids & Trials(whatever PVP mode Bungie decided to make the PVP equivalent of Raids) being the hardest yet most lucrative progression paths. Other activities should be significantly slower (Rise of Iron hit this balance the best). But over drawing out the grind will have the opposite effect Bungie & even the "Neckbeards" desire. 1. If the grind is too long & unrewarding (5 chances to grow by 1 is not rewarding) players will lose interest & move along. 2. The concept of "Max Level" being very rare sounds novel on paper. But in execution it only serves to push players away. Players will find very little reason to log in everyday as they feel it's either an unattainable goal or a goal that isn't worth the investment. D1 Taken King & Rise of Iron hit this balance well. With regular play the level growth was slow, with regular dedicated play the growth was gradual, with hardcore play the growth was swift. An example: Nightfalls, Archons Forge, Heroic Strikes were more regular play. Doing them each week gave a very slow but doable progression for players week after week. For those with more dedication/time. There was Farming Strike Keys for Strike loot. This additional step & time investment) incentivised playing the game more, kept playlists alive & once a key was acquired the players had the reward of opening a Chest & reward loot that would raise their level. Those with plenty of time to invest & who were Hard or had Raids & Trials to launch them to the cap. Soft Caps are not bad. But if poorly executed they can be deadly to a game. In RoI there were plenty of soft caps but they were not extremely oppressive. They simply asked for a bigger time investment/an extra step from players in order to bypass. These systems gave players of all kinds a reason to log in everyday and it maintained balance between the more Casual & the Hardcore. D2 seems to still be struggling with this... It swung to far to the casual side at launch & now its swinging too far to the Hardcore side when it needs to simply sit in the middle. Pre-Forsaken the hardcore playerbase (those who stuck around) was begging for people to play because they realized that their numbers are too few to sustain gameplay, a healthy population & fuel content. They have already forgotten that it seems... I had 4 guys at my job (they were in a clan together I believe) who were offering to buy D2 & the expansion pass for coworkers because they wanted people to play with. (They got no takers on that offer too which truly boggles me to this day.) Which goes to show how badly the game needed players. Now, players are returning, but if they hit those soft caps & realize that all the time invested grants barely any progression... Well it'll be Year 1 of D2 all over again. I'm alarmed that Bungie didn't account for this. But! This is what week 2 of Forsaken? So to be fair...they might be throttling progression so the people who took 1 & 2 week vacations can't max out & steamroll the Raid on launch. Just right now everyone is caught in the crossfire. Edit: Fixed some formatting.

                            • Forsaken is so good, and yet people still need to complain about it. I can understand the complaints about year 1, but that's over now. A new year is here, and with it comes a much better experience. Some of the things you mentioned are definitely problems, but they aren't nearly as bad as the year 1 problems and they definitely aren't enough to ruin the game. Just be patient while they fix these small problems and stop being a crybaby.

                            • They'll make it easier for solo players to progress in the last few weeks leading up to the next dlc. Either through IB or strikes. The better players, or teams should get better gear. It shouldn't be game breaking in PvP, and shouldn't affect your ability in PvE, tbh, it's mainly a PvP issue IMO. PvE it shouldn't matter about your light level or gear, you can attain gear in your skillset, and progress and have fun in the content you're able to tackle. In PvP, it's not much fun as a solo or casual if you constantly get recked because you can't do raids etc and get to gear to compete. It's a tough one for bungie, sometimes it seems like they stunt progression for solo players so that the teams or great players can have something better to go for. I do think they try by making world drop legendarys, even blues, that are similar to raid gear etc, or atleast they did. I don't know what to think ATM to be fair. All I know is I was always chasing something, always bored with lack of progression and content, and it always picked up before the DLC drop, but I spent many a week bored shitless. Things would pick up, I'd think "atlast, this is how it's gonna be from now on", then the dlc would drop, all my gear would be near useless and I'd start the process until I was bored again. Even the last dlc, prior to forsaken, they said solo wouldnt be able to get max light until the latter end, just before the next release. I wouldn't care if there was new stuff to do, but it's just treadmill after a few weeks. Hopefully forsaken will turn out differently, it is hard to get it right and please everyone, and of course some ppl will never be pleased.
