Bungie why is there so much weapon recoil and flinch in Destiny 2 on console when theres barely any on PC?

Is flinch and recoil a bit much

Is it just fine

Its just annoying when it feels like I'm being punched in the back of the head every time I get shot at or shoot. I just think shooter should be about aim and not how hard I can flinch someone.

  • Recoil on pc is reduced to compensate for the lack of aim assist.

    • Because of auto-aim garbage and the stick myth. Too focused on aiming for us than letting us LEARN to use the damn weapons.

    • Go play D1 and you’ll and you’ll ask yourself, “how the Hell did Bungie screw this up?!” Go fire any scout rifle in D1 and see how smooth with so little recoil it has. Then shoot the scout with the highest stability in D2 and you’ll know what Parkinson’s feels like. (Poor taste, I know and I apologize, but Lord the stability on D2 Weapons sucks.)

      • It's put in place on purpose to lower the skill gap One bungie lead stubbornly believes two players, no matter how garbage they are, should always beat a good player regardless of how fast u react or how precise u are In other words bungie believes: Casuals and participation > skill and experience

Mouse has much less recoil because it’s much harder to constantly be fighting the recoil over an extended period of time. Sticks can be pushed down and constantly send an input of “down,” but a mouse can only be moved down so far before you have to bring it back to the top of the mousepad again. So if there was tons of recoil on PC they wouldn’t be able to shoot for more than a few seconds at a time before resetting their mouse to the top of the pad.

        • You can control it on PC much better. They still have the same recoil stat.

            • because they are trying to make the shooting feel like you are controlling something and analog sticks aren't a great input for precise turning. So they have strong auto aim to help with that. but if auto aim is strong, something needs to be throwing you off for you to overcome... most console shooters choose recoil for that purpose. You could optionally reduce the auto aim. but for most players, that doesn't feel very good on an analog stick. you wanna feel like you are effective at snapping to targets to get the Destiny feel. M+K the recoil model is re-tuned because (1) the auto aim is removed (although holy hell the hit boxes are big haha). This means that the player is more involved at getting the cross hair where it needs to go which counters one of the reasons recoil is usually a pretty big factor on console and (2) trying to keep swiping a mouse down is not a good feeling while playing a game with M+K so they instead have it go side to side. which is fairly easy to account for with M+K. I can't speak to if the recoil is too much or not on console as I haven't played it in almost a year. but there is very logical reasons that they are so different.

              • Consoles/controllers have anim assist that auto snaps/aims the controller pointer back at the target to some degree and bullet magntism is also stronger on consoles, PC doesn't have this unless your using a controller on the PC so if they was to reduce it even more consoles they would need to turn off the aim assist and it would feel just as bad...

              • Recoil doesn’t exist on pc cuz of mouse and keyboard i believe. The pc version is way better than console but i aint spending all that money just to play D2 lol

              • To be fair the recoil on pc and ps4 is the same Its just easier to control the recoil with a mouse than a controler. Try using a controler on pc its exactly the same recoil. And they cant do anything about that (Btw i play a lot with my controler on pc and recoil isnt a problem...flinch in the other hand...ouch)

Two reasons. One,flinch/recoil is much easier to control with a mouse and two because i believe some one much more talented and intelligent than bungie handled the pc port.

                • i use controller on pc, not mouse keys. i see more recoil and flinch now, so its not just consoles. what annoys me is the aimassist on pc when using controller - if im trying to hit a barrel to take a bunch of fallen out with an explosion it is desperately trying to move to track the nearest fallen so i have to hold and feather the stick to aim at the barrel and feel it trying to pull me off target. unfortunately i dont see a fix for it, except maybe a toggle off for aim assist. but yes, i see recoil and flinch but its a lot easier to not notice it on pc, when you have a moving aim crosshair with the mouse, and dont have to rotate the whole screen to put the crosshair (which is fixed to middle of screen with controller) on target. the flinch may not be noticably different when youre used to keep a crosshair on target with recoil already. doing that with a controller is harder since aim assist seems to deactivate when flinch and recoil happen.

not saying you're wrong but we have a lot more control with mouse then you guys do with a joystick so when we flinch we will move are mouse at the exact moment instantly were the joystick isn't as exact so its harder to counter flinching (I have played both ps4 and pc so I can compare the 2 xP) IDK if you saw Bigcorrys post and watched the vid but that "fighting the recoil" is really easy to fight with higher sensitivity

They made the point pretty clear in the ViDoc. At the 2 minute mark if the video doesn't work. In short the input devices used are not equal. Controllers have constant input so it can deal with heavier recoil, whereas PC doesn't and so can't. Ultimately it's about game feel that they are aiming for. Disagree and all of that see if it gets you anywhere. Though from what I can tell things are largely not going to change no matter what you do. Not sure how flinch applies, because they never specifically spoke of it, however there's plenty on PC. Hell I have noticed that there's an inherent RNG factor to your shots when getting hit. So basically even if your sight is on target the bullet won't go there. It's pretty frustrating because a game shouldn't communicate one thing and then do the other.

                  • A huge amount of streamers/youtubers use pc, if it was harder they would complain more. If you check fastest times and highest scores on most endgame activities they are on pc. That's cool as it's my choice to play on console but I do wish we could move as fast and they would try at least to level the playing field

cause theres stats that reduce flinch on new gear i have a piece on my hunter i think the scatterhorn helm edit at least i saw a stat somewhere that reduced flinching from incoming damage from certain weapons somewhere i forget what it was on
