To me it looked like the attacker was preparing to attack the man on the ground, but began backing away upon realizing that the victim was preparing to fire his gun. Good riddance.

I wonder if less people will illegally park in handicap spots now.

5 RepliesI agree with the sentiment that both parties are at fault here. Protecting your family is paramount to everything else and it is easy to get caught up in your emotions, but the moment you resort to physical violence you risk your own well being and your family's. You don't know who your dealing with and how troubled they might be. And this event is a perfect example of that, you should always be the bigger man and walk away. At the same time, the shooting was also unjustified. The gun was a deterrent enough to stop the action which is the goal of drawing it in the first place: to act as a deterrent. If the boyfriend was backing off, the man should have gotten up and slowly backed up then left.

1 ReplyThis so sad. I support syg laws, but its sad that a wrong parking space led to a death.

That is not what I saw. I saw a man backing away after the weapon was drawn. This should not have happened.

Edited by Warlock: 7/26/2018 11:57:17 AMThis is a poor interpretation of stand your ground laws, this was straight up murder. The man backed off as soon as he saw the gun. You can only stand your ground if there is an immediate threat to you, but the gunman shot and killed the man long after he was a threat The man came out of the store and saw his girlfriend being screamed at. Honestly I would've done the same thing in his shoes, gotta protect your woman Furthermore, I don't think that guy should be able to own a gun anymore.

I have watched the video several times and between what the folks at the end saying about the shooter causing trouble, I would arm chair quarterback this and say he was wanting an excuse to pull the trigger. I can sympathize with the guy coming out of the store and seeing his girlfriend out of the car dealing with some random stranger and wanting to attack, but that does not excuse him putting hands on the guy. Then again, there is no audio, so no idea what was being said or how heated it was. No matter what though, I was not there, I did not hear it or see it, so I can analyze it all day and it does not matter. A guy is dead that maybe deserved it, maybe did not and a guy is free, who either should be or should not be.

1 ReplyYeah, Florida really needs to take a look at their stand your ground law. He shouldn't have shoved the guy, but I don't think that should earn him a death sentence. Apparently this isn't the first time the shooter has gotten into it with someone over a parking spot either. A week or so earlier he threatened to kill a guy over a spot and called him quite a few racist terms. The owner said the guy is known for starting crap there too.

1 ReplyWhenever I read “Florida man” I’m expecting some crazy shit
Roses are red Try holding your breath Florida man drops down pants and sodomizes pink flamingo to death
11 RepliesThe title of your thread would sound so much better if you changed Florida Citizen to Florida Man.

Nope, bullshit. I accept that the woman probably deserved to catch heat for parking illegally. I accept that the murder victim escalated the situation beyond being just verbal. I dont accept that there was any immediate threat once he saw the gun and backed off. There was no reason at all to pull the trigger at that point. As far as I'm concerned that was cold blooded murder.

8 RepliesWhoever backs the shooter has to be American imo . There is absolutely no grounds for the man on the floor to then shoot him . You can’t just go round acting hard cos you’ve got a gun in your pocket. Let the police or parking officer deal with it ,cos when he realised he’d bitten off more than he could chew he shot him.Sound.

2 RepliesEdited by JS5218: 7/24/2018 2:39:29 PMYeah stand your ground means I get to act like the police and tell people what to do I guess. And if I yell at your wife and you push me I’m allowed to kill you.

1 ReplyThe way I saw it, the only the guy started to back away was because of the gun. Otherwise, he may continued assaulting the guy the ground, or at least intimidating him. Regardless, the shoot was perhaps unnecessary in this instance, as the gun itself was enough to back the guy away.

28 RepliesEdited by Venku13: 7/24/2018 4:17:21 AMSo a guy was telling someone off for illegally parking in an handicap spot, ended up being shoved to the ground and he defended himself with lethal force. I think he was in the right. The article said that the person that got shot didn’t know the other was/could have been armed. The guy that got shot could have had a firearm just like the guy defending himself. The guy that got shoved had a right to defend himself.

5 RepliesI support gun rights and carry a handgun myself. I honestly believe that violence is never an answer and it is better to avoid confrontation unless it is absolutely necessary. I feel bad because a person lost his life over an unnecessary escalation, which turned deadly. However, pushing this guy to the ground was wrong. On the other hand, when Drejka pulled a pistol, the attacker raised his hands and took a step back.

19 RepliesAnd your answer is why lax gun laws and an armed populace is a problem. That isn’t “stand your ground.” What she’s describing is involuntary manslaughter. 1. The gunman provoked the confrontation with verbal aggression towards the victim’s girlfriend and child. So his aggression was clearly a defensive response. 2. Him shoving the gunman to the ground is at worst simple assault. No weapon was involved no reason for anyone rational to assume that their life was in danger. 3. Gunman immediately escalates the encounter to deadly violence. So what would have at worst been a scuffle where everyone gets up and walks away, and some gets charged with a misdemeanor, instead turns into an unnecessarily fatal complaint confrontation where one goes to the morgue and the other looking at felony homicide charges. Because one guy with a gun acts with a level of unnecessary aggression towards a woman that he likely wouldn’t have if he hadn’t been strapped.

1 ReplyThis is a case to which I don't have a answer. You need to consider the position of the guy who got pushed and what might of happened if he didn't pull his gun out. Monday morning quarterbacking is happening a lot. The burden of proof lies on the persecution.
-
2 RepliesI didn't know being pushed was grounds to shoot and kill someone.
-
33 RepliesThat’s not stand your ground. I can see how it might be since the guy pushed him. But since the aggressor was unarmed there was no threat to his life so Stand your ground doesn’t come into play

1 ReplyI just hope he didn’t catch ligma. It’s spreading down there
