Casual players can’t play anymore if this keeps up

What am I to do about the progression in this game now? I’ve never felt such a wall between me and content is the 20+ years I have been playing video games. The game has bugs where a way to increase you power level (milestone engrams) is dropping items at or below my current level. What can I do about the games programming? I don’t have raid groups that want to run it on all characters, I’m not a content creator who has all day to play, record, or stream this game. Thinking about this from a business perspective, yes bungee wants people to play their game more. But when the more casual player can’t go forward, because of systems bungie put in place, what are we to do? Rhetorically I’ll answer with... leave Bungie, the changes you have made to this game is changing your fanbase to where people who love the game, now don’t want to play it because of the near stagnant progression you have implemented. The warmind dlc has changed your game and the perception that you see the hard core players as “the rule” and the causal player as her exception. The hard care progressed to 370 and above in one week.... not everyone is determined to play like that and now I can’t progress because my time and style of gaming will get me nowhere fast with the leveling system you have changed. I want to believe in this franchise but it’s losing me. Please bungie, your game is going to fall fast because of the progression now. Fix it before more people lose the interest
Moderator edit: This thread has been moved to #Feedback forum so that other Destiny players can weigh in.   See Cozmo's thread here for more information about the #Feedback tag and its uses. • Not all games should be made with a casual experience in mind, especially not a loot based game. Good loot is difficult to get and worth the grind. You don't have the time to sit and play, that's not your fault, but don't come crying to the devs like it's theirs either. They do not have to make everything accessible to casuals. Go play another game if you want a normal player experience. Destiny is for hard bastards.

    • No they have created the game the way it should be, casuals should NOT be keeping up with hardcore players as of light lvl, casual players can easily get max light it will just take a few extra resets, the way it should be.

      • The ONLY activities that require max light level are end game events that REQUIRE team work such as Raids and Escalation protocol. If you aren’t going to do those events and more importantly don’t want to, then why is it a big deal? All of the solo content is still there. In D1 before the changes made by Taken King, the ONLY way to achieve max light level was to Raid, Trials, or Iron Banner. Even then it took weeks to level up without raiding 3 times a week on every character. You STILL can get max light level now without doing any of those things. Yes it will take longer, but guess what that is the way it SHOULD be.

        • Remember why nearly everyone on here biatched and moaned about d2 being too easy, too light on content or lacking any sort of chase or grind because everyone could get to max level through just picking up engrams other people earned for them? That was them favoring the "casuals". Repeat this mantra until it sticks: not everyone needs to be able to complete/do everything all the time and right away. Say it in the shower, say it while chewing your breakfast, say it while at work, say it while driving or riding public transportation. Say it until you realize it pertains to more than just gaming. Heck, max light only matters for two, maybe three things in the game, and as far as raids, using the app you can go to a handy little section where you can create a raid group.

I am a casual player, and no argument that you have presented is at all relevant to my overall enjoyment in the game. If I want to raid as a casual player, I have guided games. Same with a nightfall. My progression may be a bit slower as a casual player, but I am not locked out of any of the core activities that I need to complete in order to progress. Nightfalls are still 270. Raid is still 300. I am sitting at 355 with no complaints. As a matter of fact, this game is catered much, much more to someone like me as opposed to 4 years ago when, in order to get to LL30 you absolutely needed a competent raid group to run the VoG on hard difficulty. Now I don't need to touch a raid to progress at all. Your argument holds no water, pal. Sorry.

Dude this is insane. First we complain we get stuff to easy and level up to fast now people are complaining we level up to slow lol. If you want we can ask them to change it back to the D1 year one days where you couldn’t get to max level without doing raids. This game is still geared towards casuals just not as much as base D2 where you got to 335 two days after COO dropped. As for the clan engram just wait till reset and it will auto decrypt... You will level up just slower. Also if you know the raid mechanics you should have no trouble finding a group. I’m a solo player and I’m able to find raid groups easily.

              • Agreed,we need a solo path to power level. I hate raids and will no longer subject myself to spending three hours in a raid only to have some asshat quit and then have to spend another 20 minutes trying to find some other asshat to replace them who will also probably quit. It’s insulting and it’s an incredible waste of my time.

                • As a casual player you should still be able to log in and get your powerful engrams from flashpoint, Clan XP, crucible & heroic strikes. Ive only done those and my highest light is 361 at the moment. If you're not a hardcore player and dont raid, then you dont need to be a higher power level.

                • I personally do not think the “wall” as you put it is the problem. Casual players shouldn’t be able to do the hardest content, without putting in the time and effort anyway. There needs to be some incentive to keep people playing. This hasn’t been an issue in most mmos I’ve played. I think bungies issue is there is nothing for casual players to do that feels like progress outside of milestones. The goal is to get stronger and better the more you play. If you played D2 base + expansions you’re looking at maybe 20 hours of content before you hit your first hard wall. That’s not enough for casuals and if it’s not enough for casuals the hardcore are going to be worse off. This game is lacking content. Then add in that at very early point most of it’s pointless and that’s your problem. D2 was and still is very casual.

I hear you. ...and you have EVERY right to be upset. BUNGIE. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LOSE SIGHT OF WHO IT IS YOU'RE MAKING YOUR GAME FOR, AND WHO PLAYS IT. WHEN YOUR MAIN GOAL IS TO TRY TO SLOW DOWN THE PROGRESSION OF THE STREAMERS, THE HARDCORE PLAYERS AND THE NO-LIFERS...... You create a situation, where you STOP any sort of reasonable progression by your average players, your casual player....and in this case, your solo players. Because the artificial barriers that are nothing more than a speed bump to those who have deep wells of TIME that they're prepared to throw at your game.....become BRICK WALLS and SNARES that trap the player who only has a few hours a week to play. Which means that the vast majority of them will get frustrated. Will feel that THEIR time commitment to the game and THEIR participation in the game isn't valued..... ...and they leave. Because you pushed them out.

                      • I'm typically a solo player. I occasionally have 1, rarely 2 friends to join in. The grind is slow. Would be nice if there were still slow but alternate methods of advancements in light besides milestones. With what RNG has given me, I should be 365 by September. I should be able to see what Wave 3 of Escalation Protocol looks like without YouTube-ing it by then. Hopefully my light level won't lock me out of the new content. Why can't Iron Banner go back to increasing armor by 1 or 2 levels every 2-3 matches or so. It's still a grind and doesn't happen often. Heroic Strikes could stand to drop a guaranteed increase every 2-4 clears. I don't mind the grind being slow. It's just reset dependent. That's a bad idea. Big light jumps per reset fine, but small ones should be grind-able regardless of what day it is. I'm not asking to be 385, but the reality is, I like playing with my friends, we're just not always available at the same time. Let me slowly level up throughout the week. If not, I'll just have to play another game while I wait for Tuesdays to reset my milestones.

                      • We are wasting our time here , it’s clear to see to only ones Bungie is listening to is their streamers Who have their streaming friends , who spend 8 to 10 hrs a day playing and really have no problem getting together to do raids and other stuff, but sure these people according to bungie speak for the majority of us . I don’t have 10 hrs a day to play , so for my time I do have I want to feel I’m not wasting with nothing to show , for me the progression sucks, already 2 friends I talked into coming back have left , there’s one left plus myself , if he goes then that’s it for me , Bungie can stick their next DLC were the sun doesn’t shine Bungie seems to forget we all paid for this DLC Yet they make it hard for most to play parts of it By time we can play it, the new DLC will be here And parts of this one will prob be gone and replaced, so why did we pay for this ?

                        • I read down here just idiots. A game without casuals it will never be a game. With 400.000 pro players a company like Bungie will not exist. So give a little bit respect for casuals because they are contributing with money too.

                          • Here is my problem with the milestones, and despite regularly playing the game, it's been this nagging problem for me. Whatever it is they think they are solving for, they are not accounting for when someone has or needs extra time to catch up because they didn't have time to play for a week, or two. My friend is way ahead of me because he's done his milestones. He is nearly 370. I'm still at 350 on all my characters. This is because I had a couple weeks where I just didn't have enough time for all the milestones on all my characters. If I want to catch up with him when I have extra time to play, I can't. At best with all my milestones and without doing the raid I could maybe get to high 350s. What am I supposed to do to increase my power to catch up with him? If I have extra time to play, it doesn't matter, my progression for the week just stops. In D1, whenever I had extra time that week I could invest that time to play and make greater gains during one week versus another. Now that the progression has been slowed down, the milestones are really a strain. I can only presume that the milestones exist to prevent players from playing too much or getting too far ahead, but time gating me when I haven't played prevents me from catching up with friends. He can now do spite of Stars for instance. Even if we got a team together to play it, I'd have to be the person that's making them do other parts of the raid, something our clan doesn't do all that often, just to get me to play the new lair with them (probably under power still but better than 353/4). That's not really all that fair to them. I'm reluctant to beg for people to play the old raid when they want to play the new raid. In Destiny 1 I could independently focus on ranking up and get raid ready while I had the time.

                          • If I remember correctly, they intended for this game to be easier for solo players with the addition of the STILL IN BETA "guided games", hell they intended the lost sectors to be "rewarding content", and touted that solo players would have a better time of it by stark comparison to Destiny One. Now here we are.

                          • It has little to do with Hardcore/Casual players. I have more playtime total than some "hardcore" players and have completed all milestones except raids and trials.. currently stuck at 363 The problem is we nothing to do outside the weekly reset. No point in grinding anything as it gets you nothing in return but shards.. Progression cannot be tied soley to those two event's for a number of reasons. This has created a huge void of anything relevent. 0 reason to grind out IB since it gets you nothing in terms of advancement. 0 reason to even bother with the EP which is just another poorly implemented content. The level 3 and 5 chests.. tokens and blues.. all pointless rewards.

                            • If you would have been paying attention cosmo said the work around to the bug was to let them sit around unclaimed until the reset happens. The game auto claims them for you at the correct light levels.
