All of his stuff has been really enjoyable, everyone loved HoW and RoI.
Luke Smith obviously screwed the pooch with D2. Taken King was ok but it was a one hit wonder for him

Honestly just give the job to Mickey mouse not Disney but the fictional character Mickey mouse. I mean he would be exactly what D3 needs.
-
The playerbase got burned one too many time by the -blam!- dev team. I doubt d3 will have as many return customers. Bungie single handedly killed their five hundred million dollar franchise.
-
Another sequal reset will kill this game It needs to be an expanded universe to survive at this point In my.opiniom though it's too late for the franchise.
-
He was awesome in Final Fantasy 7!!!!!
-
All Barrett is doing is working with the game’s identity and not against it. I doubt Smith got the same support in that goal that Barrett is currently getting. I think he’s benefiting from the failure of this effort to rebrand the game into an over-engineered Halo clone.

Well... wen we saw the guy say that they wanted to mack sure that the strikes specific loot was super cool as one reason for the delay and we end up with eververse content and what? 2 run of the mill weapons as result.... We would probably just be changing one guy for more of the same... i think.

For all we know Luke was against the neutering of all our abilities but his bosses were pushing hard for the E-sportification of Destiny. Luke's not the most likeable guy in the world but I don't think we should be bashing him so harshly without truly knowing what happened during D2's development time. That being said, if he is responsible for this mess then yeah, -blam!- him, but we really don't know what happened with the information we have. If this mess was all Luke's idea, do you honestly think he'd still have a job? The only reasonable conclusion is that it was a team effort and there's lots of blame to go around.
-
But to be really honest, he didnt create that much of a change in Destiny ,still saw a lot of reskinned things . HOW was cut content, that was already made, Still remember the outrage about it already being on our disk. ROI , perfectly reskinned fallen, nothing really new, just as it always bin and still is. Dont get me wrong ,mr Smith did an shitty job with D2, but dont think for a minute that Barrette can do whatever he wants at Bungie. It is about the pvp side of the game now, balance is king. So good luck with having some signivicant changes to the game. Cheers.

Edited by TheShadow-cali: 4/10/2018 2:56:10 AMOf course Luke did. He had no business being a lead in the first place, let alone lead a new team that didn't have a feel for game. FYI, Luke Smith was pulled from Ttk in the beginning to go work on D2. So I don't give him credit for what he clearly didn't do. And for those that say "he created VoG" something someone did 5+ years ago doesn't mean diddly-squat, and it sure as hell doesn't mean he was qualified to be a lead for a sequel because he helped create a raid.

3 RepliesBungie should move to just mobile games..... They miserably failed at D2.... They cant even get Iron banner out and that has been going on for years.....And now they have to invite people to have a summit?! They cant even handle their own forum feedback... Give it up Jack Wads.... Investors run!!!!!!

2 RepliesOfficially speaking, Luke Smith’s new title is “Destiny Franchise Director”. Having said that, I see no reason why Destiny 3 can’t have Christopher Barret as Creative Director ( in charge of all the important stuff ) while Luke Smith works on broader strokes of the franchise.
-
I'm not even convinced Smith had that much to do with the TTK expansion. He probably just was the figurehead while the real talent worked magic behind the screen.
-
Here, here! Barrett for Director!
-
12 RepliesLuke Smith is obviously pulling a Monica Lewinsky to be able to direct D3 after his massive failure that is D2
-
Edited by CaptainChino23: 4/9/2018 9:55:41 PMI agree but we don’t need D3 yet, especially with all the problems D2 has had. They need to fix all these issues and really think about what they want to do instead of just pumping out a new game. For D3 I’d like to see a complete overhaul, something big and game changing for the franchise, new everything, non of this recycled content
-
Edited by Unforgiven: 4/9/2018 10:13:46 PMI would instead look at the Crucible director as cause for D2 failings. Luke Smith wasn't in charge of crucible. And whose idea was to remove Destiny 1 gear manager and Destiny 1 forums?
-
He’s the only one at Bungie with a sterling/spotless record. All of his directed content has been excellent. So. Yeah. Maybe he should be in charge of everything.
-
3 RepliesI dunno, it seems Luke Smith got some average advice for D2. A few select people have pushed their will on the game. I think Luke Smith needs to check between his legs and see if his nuts are still there. Give em a soft one-two Punch and stand up for himself. He knows how to make a game the community wants to play, show us your worth Bearded one. Also, Guardians need the option of growing beards. Idgaf if it’s a cosmetic item from Eververse, I’d buy a beard
-
Why make D3?
-
Honestly, Barret should. He deserves a clean slate for Destiny 3. But, unfortunately, Luke Smith is directing Destiny 3, which doesn't sound good.
-
1 ReplyAgree 100% of anyone is able to save this game it’s Chris, that said D2 may be too much for him ? But he should defo be allowed to have a clean slate with D3.
-
2 RepliesI remind you, Taken King was made using mostly preexisting assets left from when Joe Staten was still around. We don't actually know how much Luke Smith actually had to do to complete TTK. Also, the initial launch of TTK was a bit rough, really poorly designed infusion system and all. D2 was made from scratch and that's where things went wrong. We know we had another unnamed director before Luke came in and shattered whatever was there. Whether that direction for D2 would of been better or not we'll never know.
-
at this point i wont even consider D3 until i see an Angry Joe review :p
-
3 RepliesLloyd Christmas could do a better job.
-
Barrett knows what he is doing. Unfortunately it takes a while to fix all of the mistakes with D2.
-
Luke Smith already vanished into the shadows and is likely managing the production of D3 already. Hopefully the production of the Raids but realistically its likely he may be running the show of D3's production.
