Fix the AFK cheating problem by removing all incentives to go AFK (with player example)

Players AFK in the Crucible for two reasons: 1. To get loot 2. To deliberately tank their rating Yes, to tank their rating. This is how the coolest kids (normally Diamond ranked) can now be matched up against absolute noobs, utterly destroy them, and feel good about themselves. And, players of course are now AFK'ing in a way that defeats whatever pathetic safeguards Bungie has in place. These players stand still, never get auto-kicked, and they queue endlessly. Reporting them doesn't work. I've seen the same player AFK for a month. Instead, the system needs a few, very simple, structural changes. HOW TO FIX: 1. If you have 0 damage you do NOT get Crucible loot 2. If you have 0 damage you do NOT get auto re-queued 3. If you have 0 damage your Crucible "ELO" (ranking) does not drop This is really simple. If you never hit anyone, you're not playing for real. Period. The 3rd point above is vitally important . Why? Because all the coolest kids are now "AFK-cheating" to deliberately tank their rating. Ever been utterly destroyed by a God during a Crucible match and wondered how he's in your match, then looked him up and find absolutely conflicting stats? Yeah. These are the kids. Let's look at world-class cheater #1 and his stats on destinytracker. 26 days playing time. Impressive. Some kind of record? Likely. Top 100 in total kills. No surprise. Diamond ranked in EVERY competitive category. But lowly bronze/silver/gold in non-competitive (his ranking here depends on his place in the "play/afk cycle". More on this below). 3.0 efficiency in competitive. 1.8 in non-competitive. Hmm. Must have some really bad luck. But, his "game" really comes into focus when you examine his stats over time (Clash/Supremacy/Control). Two weeks ago (Bronze/Bronze/Silver) Diamond in all competitive. A 986 in Clash. Wow. Just amazingly bad luck to be so good against the best players and absolute trash against utter noobs. A week later (Diamond/Platinum/Bronze) Oops. He's now Diamond 1746 in Clash. What a comeback!! I mean just amazing. Today (Gold/Gold/Silver) Oops, he got too good again, and it's no fun to face other try-hards. Time to AFK and repeat the cycle. Yes, this is how world-class cheaters "game the system". He's not alone. There are others. He's just one of the best. tl;dr -- Stop giving any loot or taking away rating for players who do ZERO damage. It's really simple. • Don't worry, just like every other feature of Destiny 2, AFK grinding will get boring soon.

    • Destiny should keep stats / matchmaking separate between the causal playlist and competitive. If you mostly play the casual game modes you are going to get stomped in Trails or competitive matches. There are soooo many noobs playing PVP it's easy to get your stats higher than they should be. I tend to hit this long spiral ups and downs. I keep playing progressively more difficult matches until there's zero chance of winning. Then I'll lose something like 9 out of ten matches. Then get matched by people that are way to easy to kill and work my way up there again. When I really don't want to walk over people that just stand there and if I'm playing a better team I don't want the gap to be so large that I'm not learning everything. I want something to think about. I want to think, damn that was a nice move. I know Destiny doesn't use ELO, but if you take a person that mostly plays competitive with the same or similar ELO as a causal like myself, I'm going to get wrecked and that's pretty much what happens every time in competitive mode. I know you are talking about the opposite extreme, but I found your comments interesting. I don't think people care about the loot. When people are trying to lower their ratings, there is no real way to stop that. I always play until the point gap is unrecoverable, but once it's a blow out what is the point?

      • should be easy to check if they move and fire a lot. if they move and dont fire at all - afk. if they do both but dont hit anything - afk penalty. that leaves what? if they move a lot, fire a lot, do a lot of damage they arent afk.

Elo is NOT a bungie metric. Other sights destinytracker, ect, ect compile wins loses versus other win losses a algorithm runs and comes up with a elo. Bungie does not rate in this manner. And honestly with the state of this game it is the least of their worries.

          • You do know there is no skill based matchmaking, right? So your whole rant about people tanking their ELO (not even a Bungie ranking system) is null and void.

I think they should still get rewarded. Maybe have a secondary condition that makes sure they've been in the match for >2 min (generous) or something before not rewarding them.

              • Let them play how they want to play, even if it isn’t how you want them to play. Why cry about it? Nothing is going to change.

                  • Actually, you already get no loot if you get no kills within 2 minutes of the match ending, even if you had gotten a kill earlier in the match, or could only do a bit of damage to them within those 2 minutes.

                      • First off, remove the username as it’s considered name and shame. Second off, Bungie literally has nothing to do with ELO. That is a community created thing that branched off from chess ranking....

ELO is not a bungie system, therefore what you're asking for is not possible. Regardless, who gives a crap about ELO anyway? They only way to have a hi ELO rating is to play in a good premade team. Bungie is shooting for a 50% win rate. If you queue solo, then you will NEVER maintain a hi elo as you will always get put on shit teams. After you win one or two then you lose one or two. It's JUNK!!

You don't understand how Bungie's terrible "matchmaking" system works. Non-competitive matchmaking is practically completely random. You don't have to tank your stats to get matched with noobs. Bronze players and top 500 players get matched together all the time in quickplay. Bungie thinks a good "match" is 1 team of 4 golds VS 3 bronze and 1 diamond player, or something like that. The diamond player just destroys everyone.
