CODE OF THE AGGRESSOR
You may be wondering why I’m using Code of the Aggressor instead of Code of the Protector. It’s for these simple reasons:
- I wanted to try something different. Everyone already knows that the melee with overshield from Code of the Protector is powerful. It made more sense for me to showcase a skill tree that many people don’t know about
- Code of the Protector is centered around its melee, creating a very “one-way” playstyle. If you’re not getting melee kills, then the skill tree is not really helping you
- As I stated in the title, the Sentinel has one of the strongest supers in the game. This skill tree has a perk called “In the Trenches.” It grants me more super energy if I get kills while surrounded by enemies. The simple thought of me getting more than one super per game made me want to explore the skill tree.
WHICH LIFT SHOULD I USE?
I prefer catapult lift. Since Titan skating is not strong like in Destiny 1, I see no use in using strafe lift.
Not only does catapult lift let me get on to ledges and cliffs easier, but it also enhances my super. The Sentinel Super strives when in the air. You do not want to stay grounded when using the super. Catapult helps you get higher quicker, and easily travel those long distances when lunging.
YOUR CHOICE OF GRENADE
I prefer using the magnetic grenade. Since the skill tree wants you to play aggressive and be close to your opponents, I feel that the magnetic grenade compliments this play style. In my video you see me shoot an opponent a couple of times and then stick them. This works well because my grenade will finish off the kill, and I will get back about 30% of my grenade energy due to the Superior Arsenal perk.
I feel that the Voidwall grenades are a bit underwhelming in PvP. Any smart opponent will not willingly stay grounded and stand inside the grenade. The grenade could work though in maps that are smaller and have many enclosed areas that you can take advantage.
Suppressor grenades are a great option as well, but the current meta make these grenades feel a tad underwhelming to me. Currently, it takes about 1 minute and 20 seconds for a guardian’s grenade or melee to recharge. If I throw a suppressor grenade at my opponent, am I really suppressing them? They probably don’t have their abilities charged anyway. The biggest use of these grenades would be to stop your opponent from jumping, dodging, or using their super ability. This works well against nightstalkers and voidwalkers, so keep it in mind. It also works well in very passive games where people like to team shoot. Suppressing your opponents allows you to push in and collapse on them more easily.
WHICH EXOTIC SHOULD I USE?
I usually alternate between the Dunemarchers and Mask of the Quiet One.
Mask of the Quiet One
A very underestimated exotic. As you can see in the video, I get a small portion of health back every time a kill a guardian with my melee. It may seem small, but this little amount is what allows me to survive against 4 guardians shooting at me during my super. The shield throw regenerates health on hit, not on kill. Since it is bonded to the grenade button, you will also notice that your grenade hits will regenerate your health. As a last point, your abilities regenerate faster when being damaged. With the slow ability cool downs in Destiny 2, this perk is extremely valuable in the current meta.
Dunemarchers
Guardians in Destiny 2 can feel very slow. Pair these boots with a lightweight weapon and you will sprint much faster. The boots also make you slide further. The intrinsic perk chains lightning to enemies when striking someone with a melee. This includes normal melee attacks and shield bash, and the range at which the lightning chains is pretty high. The boots pair well with shield bash because the bash alone already does good aoe damage. Adding lightning damage makes shield bash even more deadly.
SHIELD BASH
In the video you will see me slide, shoot, and then bash all in one succession. It is quite easy to do. You just need to learn the timing of it, and make sure that you don’t stop pressing forward on your controller or keyboard while you do it. This technique is a lot easier to do if you are wearing the Dunemarchers exotic boots.
The difficulty in doing this move is to actually find a guardian that is perfectly positioned. If you keep charging in recklessly, you will keep dying. My best advice is to have a teammate near you as backup, so he can shoot while you do the bash. It takes time to learn the timing, but is quite fun when you pull it off.
THE SENTINEL SUPER
I recommend to always attack from the air. I almost never attack when I’m grounded. When you attack from the air, your lunge distance and tracking is greatly amplified. I use catapult to quickly lift myself above the ground and then do my lunge. Catapult lift is a lot more effective than strafe lift in my opinion.
Note, when you are in the air, you can combo the attack button by pressing it up to two times. If you attack while grounded, you can combo the attack button by pressing it up to three times.
If you are ever in a situation where you are forced to be grounded, your shield throw is your best friend. Lead with your shield throw (or throws, since you have two of them) and then make the push towards your enemy. If the shields hit their target and you are wearing Mask of the Quiet One, you will regenerate some health and have an easier time closing in on your opponent. This occurs at 2:45 of the video.
HOW TO TITAN SKATE
I didn’t cover this tactic in the video due to the time constraint, but I did upload a video showcasing this. Thanks to SakuraMiku for discovering this and Element82 for helping test it out. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/FxSfBzZcZpw
In order to titan skate, you need to be using strafe lift and the Lion Rampant exotic legs.
Jump, and press jump again to activate the strafe lift. Once you start to fall and hit the apex of your jump, press jump again to activate your strafe lift again. The Lion Rampant boots will give you a speed boost. We will be further testing this to fully understand how it works, but this is what we found so far.
In the video we tested it against a guardian wielding MIDA and the Transversive Steps boots to ensure that he maxed out on his sprint speed. The Titan was clearly the winner in the race. The skating is not as fast as it was in Destiny 1, obviously, but still helps to give you a great advantage over your opponent.
We also tested this against a Warlock that is constantly blinking. The Warlock easily won the race.
OVERALL
I think that in the current meta, Code of the Protector with the Synthoceps gauntlets is very powerful.
The Code of the Aggressor playstyle that I’ve demonstrated is more of a fun build to spice things up. I'm eagerly waiting the incoming buff to shoulder charge abilities that Bungie mentioned in their previous update.
I don’t see too much value in the second shield throw you get; it could be worth more in PvE. In PvP, one throw is normally sufficient since the lunge distance of my Sentinel’s attack usually helps me close the gap on my opponent without taking too much damage. Two shields usually help when your opponents are hard scoping a lane together and you don't have an easy entry point to push towards them.
The most interesting point for this skill tree is the “In the Trenches” perk. If you play aggressive enough and do well, you will most likely get a second super before the match ends. This can truly be game breaking, as I usually get 2-3 kills whenever popping my super. It would be very interesting to test how much super energy you get once private matches come out.
Hope you all enjoyed! I'll wait until the next sandbox update comes out before making more guide videos. I'm also still debating on which subclass to do a video on. Right now I’m leaning towards Voidwalker - Attunement of Chaos.
Cheers.

I like using sticky nades too! Especially on sunbreaker with the sunspot build. Get your health back and it creates a sunspot which damages other opponents. Im just waiting for the day I get a lights out medal with a sunspot. I remember one time setting up a barricade as I was getting pushed. 3 people ran in and I meleed one got a kill and created a sunspot and the two others ran thru my barricade and died from the sunspot. anyways, I like your videos

2 RepliesI was playing with this dude who was straight murdering fools with this class in trials. I've never seen someone get so many melee kills. He wiped the whole team by melee'ing. Good write up man

3 RepliesEdited by Dardex: 3/6/2018 2:05:37 PMIf you think that the sentinel super is the strongest in the game, I'm sorry but there is definitely something wrong here. Shouldn't the strongest super in the game be useful for both PvE and PvP as well as just useful in general? Only few that come to mind are Sun Breaker, Striker and Golden Gun. Sentinel is no where close to that list

1 ReplyJust read your Arcstrider guide and you have good taste. Been running 9+1/7/0 with Way of the Wind and it's excellent. The dodge can survive a sword hit in neutral :) Also makes you very tough to kill in super while dodge spamming. Didn't know about heavy palm so I'm looking forward to trying that out.

1 ReplyGreat post and even better with an explanation of why you chose each peice for your Titan. It’s a breath of fresh air and rare these days to see a post like this. Great job! Cheers!

5 Replies"Strongest super in the game" gets taken out with a golden gun shot. Should probably work on your definition of strongest.

Haha. Is this how Destiny 2 PvP gameplay is supposed to be? In ALL of those situations, with the same everything as you, i'm dead and don't stand a chance. Can't even move closer to the enemy and i'm dead. Another question: Is this some special Destiny 2 PvP hardcore mode? Just because your enemies die so quickly. Where can i buy this Special Edition Destiny 2?

1 ReplyGreat post! Maybe this will encourage other to break the meta up a little bit and try something different.

Zzzzzzzz
-
4 RepliesStrongest? The hit detection it’s garbage, when i hit enemies they bounce and never die
-
1 ReplyHow come nobody ever mentions blocking with the Sentinel Shield? It makes you invincible to Non-Super attacks, generates Orbs for your team, and doesn't appear to use much (if any) time on your Super, allowing you to walk up to the enemy for a spanking.
-
2 RepliesCatapult needs a buff, right now it is very bad, I would go with strafe lift for longer air time
-
3 RepliesI used to shotty slide shoulder charge in d1 I know you can do it here I just never have shotty ammo, and when I do it's in the raid shotty so the shoulder charge is useless
-
11 RepliesSuper does build quick with this set up. Also adding void damage to weapons helps trigger the mask as well.

1 ReplyNice post!

1 ReplyThanks for the post and the video. That was really great. I will try this out. I really miss my defender Titan. It’s nice to see someone really adapt to the class changes.

1 ReplyThat was awesome

1 ReplyYou on pc? On console you can’t shoot while sprinting sadly and you need to sprint to bash
-
I main a hunter but Sentinel is easily my favorite super.

6 RepliesSunbreaker > All Titan subclasses

7 Repliesit is not the strongest super in the game

2 RepliesThanks for this! I can't wait to read! :)
