Guardians Meet Here

Hey, Bungie Community. I know… I know… “Where have YOU been?” It’s true that this website was once exclusively my beat. That was long ago – an entire age in Internet years. These days, it’s no secret that I’m working more behind the scenes to empower people like Cozmo (and now Dylan!) to be successful on the center stage. I never stopped being aware of happens here, though. Serving the Guardians is a team effort, just like everything that happens at Bungie. Today, I wanted to share some additional thoughts on some of our forum moderation policies. Earlier this week, it was announced that forum participation requires a player to first reach The Farm in Destiny 2 with their Guardian (preferably a Warlock loyal to Dead Orbit, but you do what feels best). We also offered up a reminder that our Code of Conduct is very much alive and well, along with the army of community volunteers (know them as “The Ninjas”) who are sworn to help us uphold it. While the announcement may have sparked a new conversation, none of these were new ideas. The code of conduct has existed in some form since 2004 (or bust), serving a goal to set expectations for respectful behavior. Throughout the first years of Destiny, we had a similar minimum requirement that forum users must first reach the Tower after completing the first mission. (“Eyes up, Guardian.”) As a follow up to the launch of Destiny 2, we still needed to update the required milestone, and we finally got around to doing that thing. Old ideas. New game. Our goals have not been censorship or monetization. We seek to provide a valuable service to our community. This website is open to all players who have taken their first step into the world of Destiny, whether you use the full retail game or the free trial as your vehicle. As a Guardian, you are welcome to track your adventure, make new friends in groups, form up into teams as a clan, or just speak your mind on the forum. We’re not taking any steps to remove negative feedback about Destiny 2. In fact, if you’ve expressed a desire to see something added to the game, it’s very likely that it’s itemized on our Development Roadmap. If it’s not, lend your voice to the #Feedback forum. All we ask is that you meet us halfway as a player. Your community team is committed to the experience here. We can always do a better job of providing a respectable place where people can express sincere opinions about the games they play that we create. It’s true that there are forums on Bungie.net that have nothing to do with Destiny, but we believe that a player who is invested in the game we share is likelier to respect the forum (and the community) that we share. This is why the players of our games have often been deputized as Moderators – some of whom have gone on to work for the company. This is the clubhouse that we provide for the players of our games. You are as welcome here as you are in the world we’ve created for you to explore. If neither of those things appeal to you, there are other worlds than these on the Internet. We created this one, so we’re responsible for its upkeep. If you want to join us in that mission, I’m always suggesting that we could benefit from more Mentors or Ninjas to help us serve the player or keep the peace. Set a strong example, and you just might be the next addition to the teams that tend to their own garden. It is our hope that you have a good experience here. We maintain Bungie.net so that you can manage your hobby and make some friends that will enrich your journey. We also want to know you and learn from you. Thank you very much for reading this, and for being here. DeeJ, out.

        • I'm for freedom of speech. People who try to stop it can go -blam!- themselves with a rather long broom handle as far as i'm concerned. The real problem in the world are the little -blam!-ing bitches, who take offence to words, try growing up, people have different opinions and ideas about the world. Some you arent going to like. First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. Martin Niemoller. You may not like what people are saying, but their right to say it, is the most important thing in this world.

          • Getting to the farm is easy, even a train monkey can do it. You barely get the D2 experience once you get to the farm, so in retro respect you should only be able to view the forums. The main problem with the forums is the mob mentality.

              • The best part about all the bitching is you can post on the forums after playing the free trial which doesn’t require a credit card or Xbl or psn sub. So the only thing stopping people from coming back to post here is there hatred of something they haven’t even tried when it’s completely free.

If neither of those things appeal to you, there are other worlds than these on the Internet.
I can understand trying to get rid of forum trolls and cleaning out the less than reputable people but Bungie, you just kicked out the fans of your older universes. You made Halo for a long time remember? You still had fans from that era in here, fans of destiny one that might not have the hardware to even play destiny 2. I like the people within this forum, and if you look at my account, you can say I thought destiny 2 was not too bad. But what about the person who was a fan of your older games? Shouldn't they still have a voice? Now to be clear I'm not attacking you, I'm not threatening you. I'm simply asking you, and critiquing you. Why not let the oldies back in? There were some good people that got kicked out due to this.

I remember coming here to read every little crumb you dropped and man did you wrapped those crums with the finest prose. Now even you don't seem to have your heart on it anymore. The post you made did you really write that pr nonsense yourself ? smh.

Know what drew me to your company Bungie? Your community focus. I've been a part of your community since Halo 3. Many players have been here even longer. I looked forward to the Destiny franchise and forgave you for -blam!-ing up one video game. With the release of Destiny 2, I was unimpressed and stopped playing your game. I decided to remain a member of the community through #gaming and #offtopic. I am a member of the Bungie community, not the Destiny community. You have royally screwed up by tearing the community further in twain over a few unkind words of a turd of an ip. As a once great community manager once said, "And try using the words. 'please' and 'thank you' when you're being a bossypants on the Internet." Dear Bungie, Please -blam!- off. Thank you. Sincerely Mr. Bossypants. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/69027104?sort=0&page=0

                    • DeeJ, we know you're just the messenger. It's unfortunate. However...I do hope Bungie executives have an understanding how the consumer see's it. Activision stock holders sell because market analysis shows Bungie studios is oblivious to fan base. Bungie studios shuts negative feedback on forum to correct and damage control. All this is to appease Activision so Bungie doesn't lose future funding. Just because Blizzard got away with many years ago doesn't mean Bungie will. Times have changed... Kick rocks Bungie.

Eh. Well at least you admitted that using the trial version isn't an unintended work around. Might not be an avid player like I used to be but I'll keep an eye open for a reason to return to being one.

                        • Keeping the trolls off the -blam!-ing forums isn’t working because you made it so easy to work around. Your solution was a -blam!-ing joke just like the game. Unbelievable how stupid you are
