What you need to understand about the livestream cancelation

So I’m seeing a lot of misinformed opinionated posts about the news. For those who do not know what I’m referring to: the bungie livestream for curse of Osiris today was cancelled. Instead bungie will be making a large blog post on their website/app. So you are all entitled to your own opinions on the matter. However, I feel it’s important you guys understand what’s happening. Today was going to be another typical livestream showing off some armor and weapons and new changes. Lately though public discontent with the state of destiny 2 is at an all time high. Many complaints about the game are surfacing. So instead of the fashion show bungie will be posting a blog post in direct response to the communities feedback. Now the point I want to make is that many people are upset and making claims about bungie that simply aren’t true. The number of posts and youtube videos that claim bungie isn’t listening or bungie is lying is staggering. This is what this cancellation is about. Instead of ignoring complaints and continuing full steam ahead with their livestream bungie is taking the time to address these issues. They know there is problems and taking action to open a dialogue with the community about these problems. I for one believe this is fantastic. I love destiny and will always stand by bungie but even I can admit there are problems. However, I believe this is a very positive step in fixing these issues. So before you complain and rage, take the time to look at this blog. The studio is reaching out to you telling you they messed up and they want to make it right. These people poured their hearts into this game and they want it to be better just as much as you do. Lastly for all the people upset about the xp debacle. You have every right to be upset. In the midst of all the scandal with micro transactions this was not a pleasant discovery. But if you come out and make hateful comments about how bungie is full of liars and thieves, then you are simply wrong. Bungie immediately reacted, clearly confirming that this was indeed happening and taking steps to improve it. They never hid it from you, and they immediately took the blame. It shows me this company is dedicated to righting those wrongs that are out there. So please keep the door open with bungie and keep the feedback constructive. Bungie is doing their part it’s time for the community to do theirs. TL:DR - the livestream was cancelled for a blog post where bungie is going to address all the problems with the game. Give it a read and make your judgements then. Let’s make community feedback constructive to support a company that is genuinely trying to make things better.

  • Casual or not, if you’re good at the game there’s nothing to fret about the changes. Especially if you’ve been good since D1. Think about it. If you can manage to frag out (you actually can kill people suuuuper fast in this game) and have fun in this current state... you’re good. Either they, A) won’t change TTK much, but they’ll add more guns with more utility perks (DoT, marking rounds) or something (idk) + forge... or B) will change the TTK/pvp, and make weapons more powerful or abilities more powerful - or both. In case A, not much changes, except for variety, so you’re fine. In case B, the better players will just get better and get easier multi’s or streaks... BUT will also get one-shot by noobs as well (D1ish). So my point is: if you’re having fun now then you’re good, if you’re good but not having fun maybe weapon variety will make it fun (you also have to be willing to put down your uriels and mida... the other weapons are really good sometimes and feel more rewarding and skilled anyway... in a hipster kinda way), and if they change it up all the way then it would raise the skill ceiling a bit and stuff but also raise the skill floor a bit (ex: easy fusion nade oneshots... you know it’s easy... unless you’re throwing across map of course)
EX of super fast kill in D2: *use radar mind games* fool a guardian into peeking low (at one of the bridges on Mid-town per-say)... *appear on bridge* *drop down* mid fall -> 2 HC shots (1 a headshot) + melee = dead guardian in just about a second... when you use abilities like nades and melee abilities you can kill even faster nigh instantly sometimes
• Good post, unfortunately u are wasting your breath as 90% of the people who frequent these forums are word twisting trolls, they see everything in a bad light and think that all company’s are facist money grabbers who hate everyone, you will have your post ripped apart, made fun of and very point argued and turned on its head. Like I said good post though.

  • I always go back to the whole "when Luke Smith said The Taken King should've been priced as a new game" and they doubled down before accepting to lower the price but still said "it should've been priced as a new game". That was always going to be the elephant in the room for how they view and treat player viewpoints and feedback. I think a ton of us wish we were wrong but Destiny 2 only validated it and their whole "we monitor the forums" but knowing monitoring and engaging are two different things only adds to the whole perception that they are preferring to hide instead of engage people on the game and its fundamentals. At the end of the day the game's fundamentals are set and that means we're stuck with it and its crappy core design and methodology mean it will continue to be crap and I don't think the majority of the community will be around for a Destiny 3 if it ever comes about; PC crowds aren't gonna bite and console players have felt that the last few years of being patient with Bungie have lead to broken promises and ill-placed faith. No amount of constructive feedback by players is going to change anything; it requires dialogue and not a one-side conversation and what we honestly have right now is a one-side conversation with players talking to a wall.

  • Bungie is reacting as if the complaints are being made in good faith. Some are, but the driving force behind them comes from people who want Destiny to fail, shut down, everybody to quit, and leave this board to them and their ~200 pals so they can talk about "I identify as an attack helicopter" without needing to deal with new members. This is a fascinating case where a company is paying to destroy itself, by providing a message board with a significant number of basement-dwelling obsessive types on a crusade to destroy the product that pays every Bungie employee's salary and pays for the hard drives these posts are stored on and the bandwidth that lets people make and view the posts. Bungie is committing corporate suicide because they aren't willing to hire a real moderator. It's unreal.

  • Yes, they listen. Why shouldn't they? Their livelihood is based on this product they're hawking. A product which hasn't been well received and has come under scrutiny of late. I don't trust Bungie. Not even in who wins the faction rally. I want a giant tower scoreboard! They lie.

  • I think the sour point with the stream cancel and the blog post is that it took Bungie this long to become informative (or at least offer to be open about changes) why sudden now? Because they’ve just been roasted and rightfully so. Yet, you have to ask yourself would they have even bothered with giving us the information in this coming blog if it wasn’t for all the bad press over the xp and lukewarm or meh reviews of CoO?

  • I've given Bungie the benefit of the doubt since day 1, with the thinking that someone higher up making decisions is simply incompetent and the game will progressively get better over time. That said, they have reached this point in time because they refused to effectively communicate with their customers on any concerns, and indeed seemed to ignore them entirely. The XP issue is what has finally opened my eyes - this wasn't a mistake, they chose to have the system work that way on purpose. It was shady and underhanded, and only acknowledged it and backtracked because they had been caught at a time when the community was already at a boiling point. I can't say if this behavior is due to Activision or it's entirely Bungie behind the scenes, but regardless the deliberate path they chose is why there is an atmosphere of despair and hate. Acknowledging, apologizing, and saying "we'll fix it" simply because you were caught red-handed at one of the worst times doesn't make things any better. Integrity is doing the right thing even when no-one is looking. The test will be to see how they move forward from this in the future.

  • “They never hid it from you”....you...you can’t be this blind or dumb...can you? That’s exactly what they did. They’ve been caught. So, ya know, it’s only the main reason they’re admitting to it. But ya know, no biggie. Wow.

They aren't listening, it's damage control. They knew many guardians were planning on trolling the stream in progress. It's always 1 thing that controls ANY of their actions or empty promises............ MONEY! Nothing to do with listening, or anything else customers have to say. Same ole, same ole. Fix from behind, and add a paywall before fix or improvement.

  • You're one of those people who is lied to a lot and accepts it arent you? You openly claim you will stand by bungie "I love destiny and will always stand by bungie." So I wanted to see why, so of course I click on your name "2 years here" then i look down at your characters. "1 at 304"....ahhhhh now it makes sense. You're a casual and you've barely been here and you casually play now. Of course you think oh bungie, your game is so great and you really do love us and would never do anything like hide things from us. Bungie is doing this because they got caught. They didnt come out and tell us, they got caught months later. That means they intended to keep this quiet. Stop trying to act like bungie cares about you or the game. They dont.

  • I was under the impression they were just going to reason why they did certain things. Maybe I read wrong but I don’t see them fixing anything we’re complaining about. They just want to give you reasons why the changes were good for the game and maybe admit they were wrong.

    • In all the years of Destiny. never have we had Bungie step up to the table to speak directly about the plans they have for the game or any comment on feedback from us as a playerbase. This is a huge step in the right Direction. IMO I am really looking forward to hearing what they are going to say. ------------------ In D2, the overall dumbing-down of the game and removal of any meaningful endgame has caused this backlash. I don't agree with a lot of changes made to D2 from a "this is how the game works" point of view - but everything would have been OK of there were meaningful things to do. and meaningful stuff to GET. - Heroic Strikes: I know these are coming with Osiris DLC - but will there be modifiers to make it fun, or strike-specific loot to make it, worth doing past being fun) ?? - Hard mode: raid gear, with raid specific perks, not only color changed. Weapons what were locked into the hard mode, ie the only way to get X weapon is in the hard mode. - Random weapon roles: or keep the fixed roles and give us a mod system that is not so useless). - More crucible playmodes: Put in Rumble, Rift, Combined arms, inferno, mayhem - stick all the fun stuff and game modes into its own 3rd playlist - with 6v6. How about private Matches ?? I think there are solutions to these problems and I hope that Bungie realizes sooner rather than later that there were things at the end of D1 that should have carried over to D2. Things that would have made it a lot more fun. Is D2 a BAD game, NO - but there is so much potential wasted and it should have been so much more. Do I feel bad for getting it, or the DLCs - NO - they're all paid for months ago. and I will play when there is actually stuff to do or get. ---------------- We'll see what they say when they put out the blog today.

    • I'm pretty sure Luke Smith was not interested in getting roasted in the Q&A section of the stream. So I'm gonna say that's 90% of the reason it was cancelled. Whatever issues they claim to be fixing in the blog post will not get fixed until April. The issues we are all upset about, will need to be fixed in a redesign. The core components of the game will need altered. Tokens, vendors, weapons, armor. Those are a lot of things to change coming from a programming and design perspective. Also given its the holiday season, they wont have a lot of people to work with. They have updated this game in this fashion before "April Update" Vanilla Destiny used to look and play differently up until that update, so we can be hopeful that it is possible, but the hate is strong right now.

Same old song and dance that's been going on with destiny. Bungie screws up and pushes fans to the edge, then will appease fans just enough and move on like nothing happened. Still waiting for the house of wolves raid that was advertised at launch when I bought the d1 expansion pass.
