Like if you believe Iron Banner and Faction NPCs should have a select number of items for sale alongside relying on RNG drops.

Pretty much exactly what the title says. *Please do not use this as a place to vent frustration over the Token system in general* UPDATE: 500 upvotes! Thanks, guys. It certainly seems like I'm not alone in thinking along these lines. This might be a bit of a long read, but please stay with me. I really want to offer an alternative alongside the existing system. In original Destiny Faction NPCs always sold a selection of Faction specific gear. Faction Leaders had a full inventory. Lord Saladin (and later Lady Efrideet) always sold a small selection of Iron Banner gear, which you could purchase based off your Rank. Not so in Destiny 2. Faction and Iron Banner RNG Packages are now the *only* way to acquire faction and IB gear. And this is proving to be very frustrating, as a lot of players are reporting exceptionally high numbers of duplicate items dropping from packages. Getting a full set of gear, and gear which you might actually wish to use, has become pure chance. And it's highly unlikely that you'll get what you are looking for. If this was the original Destiny you could at least trash those duplicates and put them towards purchasing what you actually wanted. But you cannot do this in Destiny 2, as these NPCs are no longer Vendors. Now I can understand that Bungie don't want players to unlock EVERY armour and weapon combination during the course an event. They want them to come back next time. That's fine. It's why in original Destiny Lord S and Lady E only ever sold 1 Class Item, 1 Armour piece and 2 weapons per Iron Banner Tournament. Never the whole IB inventory. That could still work in Destiny 2. I appreciate that Rank levels have been removed for Destiny 2. But the game does track the number of packages which you have turned in (towards the season reward). So what I'm suggesting is this: Continue to rely on RNG packages up until the 10th Package. But after that point add a selection of 4 items to Lord Saladin/Faction Leader's Inventory which would be available for purchase. These would only become available after turning in the 10th package. And don't use Shards as a Currency. Use event Tokens. Why? Currently in Iron Banner a player can blast through those first 10 packages in a day. Using Tokens as a currency would give those players who have unlocked the Season Reward a reason for continuing to play through that event. To afford those items - which would cost a much higher number of tokens. For Faction Rallies I think you might need to up Package threshold to unlock the Inventory - as you can get those tokens quicker. But the principle still stands the same. Players probably WON'T still get all the gear in a single Faction Rally or Iron Banner week. But it gives them more of a guarantee of something than they currently have, and more incentive to keep playing. Something specific to work towards. I personally believe that would be the fairest option. And an option which work alongside the current RNG system. Please add a like if you agree,

    Events (any event) should only drop gear/weapons for that event and not any other loot.

    • The fact that you cant get Iron Banner gear as drops at the end of a match is... mind numbing. They just flipped a switch that made crucible give you IB tokens, and that's Iron Banner in Destiny 2.

      • Yes lets make it even easier to get rewards! There should be no point to grinding and enjoying your luckily earned weapons and armor in front of others who were not in the favor of RNGesus this go round! Shit, they might as well just give everyone everything and call it a day. smh

        • I think it would be cool if you could take those tokens, and if you get enough of them, purchase things in the inventory from which you can "preview" before submitting your tokens to them. Say 20 tokens for the X- Pulse Rifle or 25 tokens for the Y- Chest Piece.

              • You mean like in D1? Seems like they went out of their way to make this game as different but look the same as possible so that's probably not going to happen. Not to mention that people actually want it and since they want you to play it their way not yours it's unlikely. Would be nice though, wouldn't it...

                This would be a positive change. Not everyone will hit it in a day. But many will hit it in The SEASON. Even if you hit it on your last day, you will have time to get the items you want. PLUS one addition... get rid of the "Additional Rewards" loot table items, and replace those generic vanguard drops with alternate Iron Banner pieces. They could go vintage IB style armor and shaders (updated with the shiny armor effect and with a matte look), for those who don't like the Samurai look. And have those "additional rewards" become also available after Rank 10. Now instantly you've multiplied the replay factor. Not only because there are updated legacy items to get, but there is more Difficulty in getting a full armor set..... without the frustration of getting you 4,000th vanguard helmet, from THE IRON BANNER VENDOR. (The same goes for the Factions. Ditch the generic items from Lakshmi, Arach and Hideo, As well as Hawthorne's Clan engrams)

The fraction of the player base who can achieve that feat is so slim as to be insignificant. [b][i]****Beware! Here there be math!****[/i][/b] Even with three Iron Banner ready characters (which a WHOLE LOT of top tier players don't even have) and the "easy" 45 coins they can net you, you'd still be far, far off the mark. 45 Rep Challenge coins earned in (let's say... 6 wins?) is 75 coins earned in roughly 60 minutes (at 8 minutes playing + 2 minutes matchmaking). The remaining 125 coins will take you anywhere between 4 and a half hours (all matches being wins) to over 10 hours (counting all matches as losses) to collect. So for those 10 packages and the 200 tokens needed to collect them, you're looking at 5 to 11 hours of grinding. Keeping in mind that a significant fraction of the player base is either clanless, casual or... let's say less than competent in the crucible, most players would experience something closer to the 11 hours than 5. Hence, it would be ill advised (to say the least!) to structure a whole event based on the "fact" that any player can get his 10 packages on day one.

                  • GREAT option. yes i was so frustrated that i am rank 11 and still not got the weapons i wanted like the hand cannon auto rifle and pulse. why can't we buy anything. you could get to rank 40 and still not get everything you wanted. i have had bad RNG . all destiny 1 iron banners where never a problem because gear dropped at the end of the match and if you did not get a gun you could buy it.

                    No real effort went into this event. Nuff said. Edit: the armor kicks ass ill give them that. But the fact that I only have the hunter cape after(I think) five packages sucks and I'm done with IB in D2

                  • What I don't understand is that the main complaint seems to be that the game is lacking content, and lack of rewarding grinds. Considering the game no longer has random rolls, what you are proposing would effectively neuter the content/grind already available. As it stands grinding tokens to get the gear you want to try out is the only content that has some semblance of being rewarding after hitting the cap. It is already potentially possible to get everything from Iron Banner within the first week. Perhaps only the select few will be able to get everything, but that is kind of the point. If everyone got everything they wanted within the first Iron Banner, then Iron Banner would be pointless for the rest of the season.

                      We should at least have the option to buy the shaders from the Vendors for legendary shards. That includes the shaders from DO, NM, and FWC. Need something to spend these damn 400+ shards on.

                        • This would be a change I could deal with. Alternatively the IB event could just have post-game drops with a chance at any piece of IB gear (rare chance) and your chances get better the more matches you play. Then level up saladin with the tokens, but instead of engrams you unlock his inventory for whatever 2 pieces of armor and 2 weapons he's selling that week, one piece per level and then a luminous engram at level 5 that has "powerful" IB gear and the emblem. As far as Faction Rally goes, I felt like factions would have been far more engaging if they worked similar to clans. Each faction has 5 levels, players do activities in the name of that faction to get xp for it. Tokens will still be used to open packages, but packages wouldn't be used to tally the winner of the rally. Each level unlocked for a faction gives bonuses to the players aligned with them giving more incentive as each factions level bonuses might be different, giving players a reason to join different factions (based on their lore/personalities). The first faction to hit level 5 wins the rally, or whatever faction is the highest level by the end of the rally wins.
