There are a lot of potential fixes for this. The top loot pool is the guns. The second loot pool is the armor. When you open an engram you will get one ib gun and one ib armor. Given the drop rates you'll probably get loads of duplicates but you will eventually get a full set. Alternatively lower the tokens needed for a rank up from 20 to 10. More chances for the spent time. Compare this to the faction wars you knew you could play for around an hour and have 100 tokens. With IB your going at about 20 an hour. Very slow. Edit: 2 days of play and I've got boots x 2 and gauntlets. Guns: 4 pulse, 2 grenade, 1 auto, 2 side arm, 1 scout. It's going to have to be all day today, all day tomorrow, and all day Monday to see if there's a potential for a full set. (Can't play weekends until Sunday night :( ). The old rank system for IB was the way to do it. I always got to rank 5 by Friday and then I could just buy the armor I needed. Edit 2: I've seen a couple of nods to this in posts and this may be a really good way to this. Have an iron banner progress book similar to the rise of iron one. The possibilities would be large here. Example: Play 20 games (arms), defeat 50 guardians (chest), capture 25 zones (boots), get 100 precision kills (helmet), get 100 power weapon kills (class item), and finally complete all challenges (emblem). Then for all the tokens you could put that towards getting guns. With each reward you'd get shaders as well as the shaders you would get from engrams. The best thing about all of this: something to chase, something to work towards, and you would have a good chance of getting everything by the end of Monday. Edit 3: we're part way through the day 3 stint and i've handed in three engrams so far. We got a lovely 3 pulse rifles. That's a grand total of 7 pulse rifles for me. Love iron banner...hate the loot system and drops. Edit 4: winding down of day 3. A little more success, a chest piece, a bond, and the hand cannon.Now just playing for tokens. Oh and another pulse rifle. Edit 5: well did all the challenges on 3 characters today. Got three fusion rifles (very happy about that), sub machine gun and another pair of boots. 20 hours. You got the full set in 20 hours. Over the course of 2 days? So 10 hours a day of solid playing. Not including today, there are 4 days left in the event. Lets divide 20 hours by 7 days, the length of the event. Thats 2.86 hours per day on average it would've taken you if you had spread it out over the course of the event. The event isn't annual or exclusive, it'll be back in a month or so. I don't understand the problem here. Is there a reason as to how exactly [i]additional[/i] loot impeded your grind to getting the full set?

Bring back the rank system and hybrid it with the current token system. Every vendor should [b]ONLY[/b] have their respective gearset. For the vendors that already do, keep them and remove the rest from their pools. As for the other gearsets they can be given to other vendors that currently don't have any like Cayde, Banshee, and Hawthorne. Since all the gear is locked anyway, there is already no incentive to grind that prefect roll. So have all the rewards tied to the tier level. Every rank up has guaranteed rare shader drops, again representative of said vendor along with the rewards as follows. Rank 1- arms Rank 2- legs Rank 3- chest Rank 4- helmet Rank 5- class item Rank 6- ghost shell Rank 7- ship Rank 8- sparrow Rank 9- rare emblem Rank 10- featured kinetic weapon of the season, or weekly reset. Rank 11- featured energy weapon of the season, or weekly reset. Rank 12- featured power weapon of the season, or weekly reset. Rank 13- legendary emblem, legendary shaders Every rank up after that is a grind for guaranteed legendary shaders along with an rng drop of the previous tiered loot. This extends player repeatability by at least three more package turn-ins (a win for bungie) and lets the players know exactly what they are getting when they grind, (a win for players). It's a win-win situation. Every season or reset change out the weapons. This will keep the grind going yet rewarding at the same time.
