SC_Slayerage - Reddit Post on state of Destiny 2

My friend texted me a link to this post. This summarizes exactly how I feel on the current state of the game. It was very well communicated and think Bungie should take a look at this. https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/757x6s/on_power_balance_and_commitment_issues/ **Obligatory we're trending update! - Truly hope Bungie will at least read the link as it is nothing but constructive criticism from a very good Destiny player. Hopefully they will see the countless threads of the community complaining about lack of content, state of the Crucible and end game. We all want the same thing, to enjoy the game, to "Become Legend" and not become bored.

Agreed 100%. End of the day the weapons that were unbalanced are what made the game fun. You take the weapons that are fun out of the game how do they expect it to be fun. I am PvE before PvP all day and boy was it fun using the exotics in D1 all pre-nerf obviously I'll never forget these moments that make D1 exotics truly exotic. 1. Went into the crucible and saw Suros Regime for the first time. I went searching for the guy ignoring the match because it was so unique and all I saw was his name pop up over and over killing everyone. That moment made me want to play Destiny more to get that gun 2. Was in a vault raid and saw one of my teammates using monte carlo. I went absolutely nuts it sounded great it looked awesome I just had to have that gun. Made me want to play more to get the gun and buy I played 10hours a day of non stop strikes for 3 days until that bad boy dropped for me. 3. The day I got icebreaker and I was so unhappy because it looked like crap. Then my eyes were opened when I leveled it up and used it with its unlimited ammo greatness buy I had 3 of those maxed out on each character. One of the most fun I ever had with a sniper 4. Vex Mythoclast pre-nerf I couldn't think of a more fun gun to use in any game until I got one of those. It looked unique it felt uniqe and it melted everything in PvE and PvP alike. When my destiny group and I saw that the first time people remade characters just so they can re-run the game 3-4x in one week on a character just to get that gun. You want replay value how bout people redoing a crap storyline remaking characters just to get a shot at a Mythoclast drop. I don't see anyone restarting characters for any weapons on this game 5. Red Death even after the heavy nerf on that version of pulse rifles I still loved that gun just because of the look. I will never forget watching a trailer for D1 a year before release and I told myself that is why I'm buying this game and until I deleted D1 as I downloaded D2 that gun is still on my titan main ready for any PvP action even if I am a PvE first. 6. Thorn I've never had so much one doing PvP with a handcannon until the Thorn became a thing. All the Thorn 1v1s, 1v2s, and 1v3s was just absolutely satisfying Thorn vs Thorn was what pulled me in the crucible and it will always be a fun memory. 7. Last but not leas the Gjallarhorn the gun I didn't buy from Xur week one lol. I honestly didn't care much about the gun until the crota raid and My group was struggling. Then one night my clan leader decided she would try the gally and all the pieces just all came together. Why in the hell were we not using these mothers to down him to begin with and from that moment on all raid teams have gallys in our inventory. Sad to say I don't feel any excitement about any weapons in D2. I honestly don't feel the need for any item in D2. This is personally where they lost me as a very active player. Oh well time spent elsewhere I guess. But I still miss that feeling of hunting for a weapon because it's fun. Nothing about balance here. Thank you in advance for reading this far and sorry for the long post.

    • Okay I read it. I disagree with most of it and offer counter arguments and examples. The only argument that holds weight is the random perks for guns because people liked grinding for God rolls, I did not and like having a single roll. But that's personal preference.

    • I partially disagree with his point on power level. In Destiny1, you actually could over level and 1-2 shot most red bar enemies in patrol (excluding Plaguelands) and even Prison of Elders before updates. Destiny 2, you can get stronger to a point. It seems like once you get to a level that you deal average damage to an enemy, anything above that stops counting. I can't fully agree with his talk about loot either. The fixed loot system makes certain guns obsolete compared to others, but the one that Destiny 1 had made certain perks inherently bad, where the gun was basically trash if you got one of those perks meaning that you typically wasted A LOT of time getting all kinds of stuff that you immediately got rid of. There was also the problem of "god rolls" which gave people an advantage, not because of skill or time put in, but because of luck. I really disagree with him about removing balance and keeping random rolls. That's just insanity. What it will end up as is the 1% with god rolls dominating everyone else due to a lucky advantage gain and then not doing anything about it. A better solution would be to actually use the mod system that was ultimately squandered on weapons.

    • He says a lot of what I've been saying for a long while. If they want to emphasize balance, the game is a traditional FPS. And there is no point to raids, nightfalls, and other extracurricular PVE activities. Just no point. Might as well have standardized weapons and abilities for the sake of balance, a ranked form of PVP, etc. If they want this game to stay true to its loot-shooter core, then balance is much less of an issue and the competitive side of the game needs to go - if its not separated from PVE. This is because the need for PVP balance necessarily eliminates a ton of otherwise fun possibilities, ideas, weapon perks, weapon perk combos, etc. for us to get. Everything just has to be bland and boring for the sake of PVP and a loot-shooter without worthy loot to chase is just a shooter. Which is where D2 is at right now. Bungie can't be both a competitive FPS game AND a lootshooter with a single unified sandbox. It's just not going to happen. They need to choose, or this game/franchise is going to continue to suffer. At this point, I won't even care if they go full retard, start cutting PVE content, get some dedicated servers, make PVP generic, and figure out a good ranking system. THAT seems to be the game they really want to make anyways. They won't earn my money with it as I'd go to Halo for that kind of gameplay. But at least I'd know that it was finally time to give up any hope that this game could find the magic it had in Y1, lost during TTK and RoI, and utterly destroyed in D2.

      • Great read, and exactly echos my thoughts. As I've been saying since the beta, a game can't have a large number of variables that offer complexity and hence replay value such as RNG weapon rolls and diverse skill trees without there being some inherent imbalance. Balance = Simplification and this is why D2 feels dull and lacking in end game vs. D1. The solution I've been proposing to anyone who will listen is to keep a single fixed set of perks on every weapon, piece of armor, and the two predefined sets of perks for each skill tree. Then allow the rest of the perks on every weapon and gear piece to roll as RNG, and open up skills to individual node customization as in D1. Now, here's the catch. In order to enter competitive PvP or Trials you must have one of the two predefined skill presets selected, and all of your weapons and armor will automatically default to the standard static roll (top row), similar to how gear automatically locks upon entering the trials playlist. This will ensure a more level and balanced playing field for competitive PvP since everyone will be using only the same roll on every weapon and armor piece, while allowing some more variety, and yes some imbalance, to casual PvP or PvE.

        • It's one thing to have something creative or not on display. Video game design entails tons of creative elements but like a good friend told me as I started doing music and sharing it with people, he reminded me it's easy now but if you were ever in a position to sell the music be ready to grow a thick skin as you will now be under the scrutiny of the buyer.....I hear postings that rip on the negative comments but this is no different...sure bungie won't please everyone but when they start charging money for what they create...they are open to opinion, fact or whatever else a person wishes to dish out......

                    • I wasn't a Destiny 1 player. I am new to Destiny, and I loved Destiny 2. That being said, this reddit post is so spot on haha. I am really happy I played the game, but I was ready to do so much more as all of my friends that play told me was going to be needed. Im ready to play more, to grind for gear or better guns and customizing stuff. But the amount of repeats and uselss stuff i get is just a waste. im 305 like 10 times over and I STILL GET 295 drops for weapons. Stop doing that. Its just a waste of my time.

His post is nothing special and he seems to be in need of friends to pad him on the back or something. If you need a random snow flake to tell you how to feel or summarise your experience of a game you're playing yourself you really need to go outside some more and make some friends off your console.

                      • So he basically says I love the way it looks, love the lore, love the weapons, love the missions and activities but want to change everything else. Honestly I have no clue who he is and if his opinion is any more valid than anyone else's whom complains daily about the game but I am enjoying the game in may aspects. Granted I have only been playing about 3 weeks and haven't reached Max Light on 1 character let alone 3 I feel most are asking for too much too fast. Do people take time to enjoy games any more? Most seem to be in a mad rush to be "World First" at everything and miss so much in the process. Chalk this up to another gamer who wants to change the game design to his liking.

                          • He makes some good points and has good ideas, like a lot of peoples posts I've read. Unfortunately, its going to take some other developer to "copy" this format and make it better (maybe Anthem, maybe something else). This developer Bungie is great at making their game look and feel great, they lack on the systems part of the game. They have problems with progression, balance and end game.

                                • He took the words out of my mouth. Anyone who doesn’t agree with him probably doesn’t understand the game as fully as he does and hasn’t played the game enough. This is a man that has stretched destiny to its limits and has done everything many many times. He knows the ins and outs and he has other game experiences he can build into it. His post and opinion should be weighted heavily regardless if he’s a; streamer, youtuber, or “elitist”. Bungie did us a huge disservice with destiny 2.
