EDIT PREFACE: If you like the timer, ask yourself this:
If they remove the timer, what changes FOR YOU? You can still rush through it and have no fun and get your reward, nothing changed. So what makes you so opposed to removing the timer? You just want to make sure noone else who is worse than you gets anything you got? Are you a 5 year old? So what if someone sits back and takes 2 hours to beat it, why does that change anything for you? You still played it for 25 minutes and got the reward. Also, why not raise the difficulty higher then, to a point where you cannot beat it, because only people better than you should be able to play the nightfall? Why is it that only this difficulty and only a timer are acceptable to you? You keep asking why I say "blindly," these questions should make that extremely clear and if you are still stuck on your "skill" argument, see "EDIT 5."
If you do not complete the game in the amount of time given, you lose. This I would say most people do not find fun. The point of games is to play with YOUR style the way you like to play, not be pigeon holed into playing with everyone using the same loadouts and skipping past every part they possibly can.
It would be like saying Super Mario 64 can be beaten in 6 minutes, so if you don't beat it in that time, you lose, and the game is too easy if that timer is not there, and there is no other way to make it more difficult, except adding that timer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTzs9bcNgMQ
Do you think Mario 64 should have a timer because it makes it harder? Or should people play the game the way they like to play and find the challenges in completing sections that they are not as strong in?
Adding a timer does not make it the nightfall more difficult, all it does is remove styles of play and personality from the nightfall. As is, everyone uses the same loadouts and the same weapons and rushes through as quickly as they can removing all sense of playstyle or personal preference from the game.
I still don't understand what was wrong with Wipe to orbit. You still have incentive to play more quickly, (to get reward faster AND if you do take an hour then wipe, it hurts pretty bad) but the option not to also.
EDIT: Not to mention, there are only 2 PVE end game activities in which you can earn gear to get above 265 public events and nightfalls. So basically, if you don't play pvp, (let me guess, you want people to be forced to play pvp too) then there is actually no way to even level up to play the raid other than the nightfall and playing the same public events over and over. The only reason I even played the nightfall was literally for the reward, not a single time did I replay a nightfall, or know ANYONE who did for fun. (other than youtubers to create content)
So what you are suggesting is that if you don't like the timers, then just go play the same public events over and over and over if you want to progress.
EDIT2: I have no issue completing the nightfall, have done so on all three of my characters every week, without any issue, first try. (except this week, no motivation to do them) I just don't think they are fun to play that way, and there are a million other ways to make something challenging. Sucks to not want to play an entire mode of the game because there is a pointless timer and it takes all the fun away. I would be doing nightfall strikes 5-10 times a week if there was no timer, just playing it different ways and having fun, rather than just rushing through it for a luminous engram.
Also, if the timer is removed, you can still play just as fast as you want, or time yourself, if the timer is added, you have no option but to rush through the whole thing. The biggest complaint from timer lovers is without it people sit back, my question is, why do you care what anyone else does or how they beat it? How does that change ANYTHING for you? Sounds like you guys are just elitists who want some reward because you think the way you play is superior to the way someone else plays. The reality is, you probably aren't that great, and if we are just placing arbitrary timers for difficulty, why set the timers and anomalies where they are now? Why not take away 5 minutes. Would that then be too difficult? If so, why would that matter, challenge is good right? Specifically only the challenge of a timer is good though, any other challenge is not because people may solve that challenge in different ways.... such as being careful and taking their time, or maybe, just having fun.
My biggest question is this, if the timer is removed, What changes FOR YOU, if you like being timed? Are you unable to play at that pace if the timer is removed? How does it affect you at all if the timer is removed? Just keep playing it exactly like you do, and you are good to go.
EDIT3: Sounds like everyone in favor of the timer does not understand that something can be challenging without a timer, or that it is possible to beat the nightfall just fine, but still think the timer is not fun. If you are one of those people, I am not talking to you, you are the exact blind fanboys I am talking about.
EDIT4: You guys worry about the nightfall being easier than it is now, but then proceed to be perfectly fine with getting free clan from your clan, where you are most likely a freeloader, fine with public events giving almost unlimited loot if you want to just waste your time and play them over and over, but if someone beats the hardest mode in the game (the nightfall is easily harder than the extremely easy raid, both not terribly difficult) in a way other than rushing through, suddenly the world is ending.
EDIT5:
Here is why I don't understand the "get gud" or you aren't good enough argument (separate from the fact that I beat it easily)
-Group 1: misses 5 anomalies, fails by ten seconds, would have taken a total of 24m:11s had time not run out, they fail
-Group 2: miss 0 anomalies, finish with 3 seconds remaining, take a total time of 26m:27s and succeed.
According to you, group 1 has no skill and needs to get better despite being more effective running the nightfall, but didn't spend 20 minutes before hand watching a video to find all the anomalies. Why? However your concern with no timeer is that people will spend an additional 20 minutes (or less) to sit back and take their time to beat the nightfall? And see no irony?

5 RepliesThe simple response is that some people like the challenge and it being harder makes is more fun. I was disappointed when they removed the team wipe to orbit mechanic. It made you try harder, think more, and work together rather than just run and gun. If the timer is removed its just another normal strike and should not award powerful gear.

6 RepliesThe problem is that those timer lovers are the 305's with all maxed out and run through like cake. Do the Nightfall with a team of 240 !!! Then those super great asses cry like babies. Make timers optional! Then lets see who turns them on - NO ONE WILL! The timer lovers are those who do not play the game for the game itself. They got their max light level a week after the game was out. They already got 500 Exotic engrams while I got in total 5 Exotic Engrams and playing every day every possible option... just not rushing through or glitching to the next event and farming engrams. Bungie should give us the option to do a Nightfall at Level 240 as advertised then all woudl be fine.

1 ReplyWithout the timing it’s the same old nightfall with. Modifiers . The timer makes you think , plan with your fireteam . It adds an intensity that a lot of games don’t have. Lends for some really crazy intense moments and sometimes down to seconds for completion. To me that’s enjoyable !

2 RepliesOk first off the Nightfalls in D1 pre Y3 were a joke, I soloed every single one multiple times and then helped people do theirs. The wipe and Return to orbit was awesome but honestly how many times do you manage to make a mistake that will cost you to restart the entire Strike until you realize slow and steady wins the race. Any scrub can sit back and long range enemies with Scouts, Snipers and Rockets back in D1 and never really put themselves in harm's way of failing and getting booted to orbit. Then D1 Y3 came with the new scoring and oh look at that a timer to complete the nightfall within the limit for a chance to get Icebreaker out of a Bounty. Then magically people started to play more aggressive and faster paced because they wanted a shot at the bounty. Now here in D2 they combined the Wipe to Orbit and the Timer essentially and now people wanna cry about it. No more campfest easy mode nightfall for endgame loot and people want to cry about it. People always crying about wanting to play the game how they want to and they shouldn't be forced to do things a certain way, or do certain activities to get better loot. Well guess what all of the people with that mentality are trash, it almost seems you want to be rewarded with 300 light engrams for walking around the EDZ and shooting trash mobs in the face, not gonna happen. If you want to Raid guess what there are only 2 or 3 consistently reliable strats to beating each encounter. If you want to Nightfall guess what you better beat that timer and get it done efficiently or you gotta start over and try again. You wanna play trials, same concept teams generally use 2 or 3 different strategies to go flawless. You want to complete those milestones for higher rewards and endgame loot. Yeah you got it, you better play that crucible and those public events. Stop being a whiny little princess and do what you need to in order to achieve a victory. Or quit playing uninstall the game, delete the app and go play Super Mario or some other children's game

8 RepliesIf you haven't figured it out, yet, everything about the way this game was made, from PvP design and matchmaking to little things like the NF timer, is to force you into playing the game the way Bungie thinks you should be playing it. It isn't about what we want, anymore. "Fall in line or GTFO" is the underlying message.
-
Because they are God's gift to the game and the best at everything they do in life and have millions of dollars and black jack and hookers and only nuubs don't like the timers. Gah! /sarcasm
-
Oh and P.S. there are certain ways and certain things you have to do in order to beat a lot of those levels in super Mario also, guess you should just quit gaming since you don't want to be forced to play a certain way
-
7 RepliesWow, you really only think in extremes.
-
I don't like the timer. However I am perfectly content with its existence as it adds challenge and urgency to the mix.
-
7 RepliesDude, this is a long post. Why don't you just do the regular strikes? There is no shame in that. You said you beat the nightfall's within the time limit, so if you want to spend an hour in a strike, just play the regular mode. I am not sure what answer you are looking for. The reason they added the timer is so people don't sit back and cheese every fight. I enjoy the challenge, especially the prestige nightfall. I wouldn't mind if they made it harder also. There is a mode for every type of player, I would just stick to the normal strike playlist and you will have more fun.
-
I don't even do NFs ... they are simple a pain, no fun. This game was a big waste of money. The only reason I continue to play is because I paid for it, and nothing else is out right now that I like. I am going to give Fortnite a try. Seems really fun!
-
5 RepliesOh my, why are you so triggered over a bloody timer? It's stops solo and promotes team play.
-
4 RepliesYour argument is so awful it makes me question if you understand the point of the Nightfall. It's supposed to be hard. I'm not blindly following it, I enjoy the challenge and the forced strategy behind it. I don't mind if my team fails a couple times before we beat it, that's the challenge. If your used to sitting a mile away with a sniper rifle and popping off shots, deal with it. Learn how to employ a different strategy.
-
It's simple [fanboyism]

This post gave me cancer
someone make a good post to cure me please
2 RepliesWhy does everyone want a easy damn game. Get better and find a damn group that can actually coordinate and have skill. All i see is ppl trying to dim down the game

Edited by CountyCheese770: 10/6/2017 7:30:18 PMBecause you nor I can or will change anything. Bungie made their game and could possibly change it for the next dlc but more than likely it’s gonna be this way for the ENTIRE first year of destiny 2. All these post, I don’t see jack shit changing any time soon. So play it and deal with it or don’t play it and move on. That’s basically the options we all have. Post after post after post isn’t gonna change until at LEAST the next dlc, but like I said I don’t expect a change (if one comes) til the beginning of year 2 of destiny 2. That’s just my $.02 of common sense and reality.

1 ReplyEdited by trickshot1002: 10/6/2017 5:10:46 PMThe timers keep the community separated Crucible Level advantages are gone, so anyone who uses the meta can go flawless The timers for the night fall prevent “cheesing” by waiting out the adds and soloing but just slowly working your way to the boss. nightfalls are meant to be difficult and rewarding, the timers keep the average player from completing it. You need to be quick, decisive, and tactical, not just oh I can die... wait a lil bit. Respawn and I’ll get this done eventually. I’ve completed every prestige nightfall ive attempted since launch, and completed lesser Nightfalls with clan mates to help them out... they’re not hard, just focus more on adds than the timer, make bad decisions and not kill the right adds when you need to and you won’t complete it in time. With the time gates, don’t jump through them the second you see them, wait to clear the area before you do. When I did guided games I noticed a lot of people making this mistake.

Establishing the rules of your game through resources and restrictions is fundamental in game design. People often forget that the developers decide how you should play and your play style is formed upon what is available. The nightfall’s resources and restrictions force a player to learn how to deal with the enemies and boss of the strike with a time restriction, meaning that they cant take their time with it and there is nothing wrong with challenging a player with something outside of their comfort zone. And if a player fails to perform under those set conditions then they should practice until they can achieve it. The nightfall timer forcing players to deal with the strike a certain way is a way of showing them that in activities like the raid, the mechanics wont wait for you, and instead you have to play off of the rules of the encounter. Every raid forces players to play outside of their comfort zone and urges them to break away from their norms because that’s what challenges are designed to do. Sure the nightfalls aren’t fine tuned to work smoothly with the timer, but none have been impossible. And for those who do struggle with the timer, then practice. If you dont want to learn to adapt to the rules of the challenge, there are other milestones for obtaining more powerful gear.
-
It's not that i blindly support it. Or support it in general. It's just never been an issue for my fireteams to not finish due to time.
-
8 RepliesTake the timer off, bring back the OG Nightfall modifier, remove join in progress and make the rewards worth the effort. That's a proper Nightfall. No BS arcade racer time extension mechanics.
-
I don't even really bother with nightfall now. I used to do it 3 times a week. I -blam!-ing hate the new timer. It promotes just rising by everything you can and only killing what you absolutely have to in order to advance. This should have been included in the prestige mode. I could totally get behind that. Bored with regular rings? Try doing it timed. This was one of the worst additions to the game (among other things) and was really not needed nor does it enhance anything. "Well you don't go to orbit note if you die" who cares? That functionality made it difficult in a doable way at least. That way you to be tactical and work as a team, sure it was annoying on a hard nightfall but you felt accomplished doing it (not to mention got some worthwhile loot if you weren't maxed). Now people just try to blaze through areas screaming hoping not to die on the way to a part they HAVE to do and -blam!- the rest of it. This decision boggles my mind.
-
3 RepliesThe point of Nightfall timers is to push people to complete content in a timely manner. It's hard if your unfamiliar or undergear but in general MMOs thats a "gear" or "execution" check. In PC MMOs timers or rage timers, have been used for a long time. It's a great way to push players to work on execution and build upon, not just "complete" the content. I support timers because it pushes players to be better, end-game shouldn't always be something you can just "take your time with".

So by this logic of "I should be able to play any game MY way" you should be able to play a Dark Souls game by just mashing attack and win. What about a stealth based game, should I be able to just not be stealthy? Should I be able to speech check my way through a hack and slash game? Should I be able to complete the raid by simply shooting everything in front of me and not paying attention to mechanics? The answer to all of these questions is no. The game designers design a game how they think the game should be played. With that in mind Bungee has endorsed playing your way. But wait, aren't there untimed strikes in a playlist? "Yeah but the rewards aren't high light!" Well if you don't like the nightfall, and if the raid is super easy, why do you need to be high light level? The answer is you don't. So stop complaining about something you don't have fun doing when there are alternatives giving you what you want, an easy boring strike you can take super slow. "But regular strikes aren't hard!" If that's the problem than just do what you were telling people who like the timer to do. Implement the difficulty yourself. Go below two thirds health? Off the cliff. Momentum is on this week? Make sure you run around when you regenerate health. TL;DR Stop whining about game developers designing a game to be played a certain way. Stop telling people to implement their own difficulty when you can already do the same. Stop expecting everything to be tailor made for you.
-
1 ReplyUsing logic and reason on a Bungie forum is like beating your head against a wall, the wall does not care.
-
I don't understand why so many blindly complain about it.
