...wash my hands, and see myself out.
No need to reply. I assure you, I’m quite the honest person, and I’ve no intention of sticking around to read replies.
I left my, mostly, tactful feedback, for whatever good it will do. I am proud of that. Those of you who are passionate about quality, I feel for you too, and thank you. Not many care deep enough, and even fewer than that ever recognize, let alone respect, the time some of us take to really look deeper, beyond the flashy graphics and dazzling colors, to root out the weeds which choke the garden of video game Edens.
Bungie, this is for you, and only you. Not for the fans and not for the players. They’ve done nothing wrong. They are here to simply have fun and, like them, I was too. I saw great potential in your capabilities. And this is not to say you are incapable of still being and doing great.
Given the current state of the game, it’s embarrassing. Shameful, even.
The fact that many players, to my surprise, argue to defend this game, yet seem to conveniently forget(?) the fact that Y3 Destiny had better incentives for players (read as: replay-ability), blows my mind. There can be only one reason. Your target audience was reached. Very young people. Vanilla Destiny had more diversity in loot...and that’s a fact; baked-in perks means kills the pursuit and need to keep going.
Review
(Sure to sting some feelings)
Gloves are off!
If you’re a casual player looking to spend time experiencing Bungie’s first class shooting mechanics, you’re in for a treat. If you’re a returning player who was looking for more, there is trouble up ahead my friend...
Having put a great many hours into the game, experienced all it offers, it becomes clear, and fast, that the game turns boring. Loot stops scaling at around the 260 power (previously known as ‘Light’) mark and the only way to power-up higher is the completing of weekly activities, which can be done once per character, per week. Once done, and once you find yourself at the 265/ 270 mark, infusing exotic weapons and/ or getting exotic engrams are your only way to scale up. It’s either mindless grinding for the same loot, of which has baked-in perks (more on that latter) or make new characters to take advantage of being able to do multiple weekly milestones.
While the latter sounds appealing, it’s actually detrimental to anyone looking for long term replay ability, because there is no incentive to grind out the endgame activities beyond getting what you get, the first time. With the lost benefit of raid weapons and gear not having raid perks nor even random perks on normal loot, the incentives to keep playing is lost. I reached 300 power very fast using the multiple character method and once there, activities that granted rewards useful to me, diminished exponentially.
This is a huge step backwards in a looter game, and that’s the bottom line in this genre: getting better loot. Everyone has the same loot now. There is no more White Whale to pursue anymore.
I’ve digressed though and believe that what I am about to say, should be the only thing that needs to be said. More than 90% of the people who have been leaving reviews here for this game, have been comparing it to the vanilla release of Destiny.
And this, critics, is not only a mistake, but it shows just how out of touch you are, and have been, with the many progressive changes made to Destiny, up to this point. There were a lot of extra incentives added to Destiny. Post Rise of Iron expansion saw the game in a truly fun position.
Gone, entirely, are all the changes that year 3 Destiny had that helped mold the vanilla experience, over time, into a wonderfully rewarding experience.
Sequels should retain aspects of their predecessors, for continuity sake. Movie producers and novelists alike know and understand this. However, and I cannot emphasize this enough, more must be built upon that foundation. More. Not less.
Destiny 2 is three years behind Destiny: Rise of Iron. Quite literally, we veteran players who stuck with Destiny from day one launch, we are playing that same bland vanilla Destiny experience of 2014, all over again.
Critics praising Bungie for the story and fancy graphics, need to stop. Just stop. Those are characteristics that are, in this era of video gaming, come to be expected of any first rate developing studio. Expected! You don’t praise an adult for tying their shoes every day, do you? Unless you have stuck with Destiny since initial launch and up until now, your critiques, opinions even, are entirely moot.
Do not buy this game. Maybe, in two years time from now, the game will offer everything that Y3 (Year 3) Destiny does. But, really, who wants a repeat of 2014 again?
Hardcore fans are abandoning the sinking boat. Have no illusions, the game grows stale and the casuals, whom this game was clearly targeted at, will leave when they do and will grow bored, fast. Anyone left standing who was a hardcore fan, if any at all by then, will be left wondering if the whole experience was a nightmare and they can finally wake up.
Stop spreading false information, critics. You cannot compare this game to vanilla Destiny. In doing so, you are clearly disclosing your lack of intelligence and acknowledgment of the fact that Destiny has, since launch, never seen many expansions and core mechanic changes that have refined the end user experience. Stop. Your. Madness.
Search Youtube for a video by “Skill Up.” It’s an hour long review of Destiny 2 and one of which tens of thousands of fans are in agreement with. You owe it to yourself, if you value not only your money, but the integrity of the video game industry.
The game is an insult to creativity, ingenuity, inspiration, and takes no risks. Nothing to see here. Nothing you will truly miss. Move along.
If you’re looking to critic reviews, or listen to people that tell you to ignore user reviews, ask yourself this:
Would you rather take the word of someone who is not knowledgable, in that they are comparing an outdated version of Destiny, minus all the software updates and changes for the past three years, to Destiny 2? Or the word of someone who has put in thousands of hours into Destiny, up to now, and many in Destiny 2? Someone who has skipped three years or someone who has seen them all?

The fact that many players, to my surprise, argue to defend this game, yet seem to conveniently forget(?) the fact that Y3 Destiny had better incentives for players (read as: replay-ability), blows my mind. There can be only one reason. Your target audience was reached. Very young people. Vanilla Destiny had more diversity in loot...and that’s a fact; baked-in perks means kills the pursuit and need to keep going.
I don't blame the devs that actually create the game, I blame the higher ups that are the problem with this game and why it will never go anywhere other then what you see right now. It also don't help they put a grunt in charge that since Y1 nerf a lot of stupid decision have been made and a few that was deliberate, like capping all of y1 in PvE but allowing everything to work as normal in PvP. It was one of the most selfish things this company has done deliberately in this game among other things. It's 2017 people and this game has been worked on for 9 years now and this company is treating it like it's 2014? I don't give a flying hoot what any destiny fan says... This "poor Bingie" nonsense doesn't work anymore. Any company that has been working on one game that long has a damn good idea where and what to do with their game. Bungie is still treating this game like it's a beta, as if they don't know how to stick with a plan and improve the game from there. They wont, and they will change the entire game again when D3 hits and gamers will still say stupid stuff like... "They're still learning" What, it takes 9 years to know what you're doing in one game? Hell, Most companies have their game down by the 3rd year. Not Bungie, that is going to take another 10 years before they wake up. "The full game isn't out yet, give them time" This is the full game people, it will never get better. They will pull the same nonsense they did with D1 and most of you will eat it up, but the difference between D1 and D2 is, you have a lot less in D2 that has incentive. "You haven't reached max" News flash, reaching max has not and will not Ever mean anything in this game because you don't "need" max to complete anything in this game. It's just bragging rights and nothing more. Not only that, when you level up everything levels up with you so it's like you are not leveling up at all and a waste of time to grind for that. Sad thing about it, it will always be this way through out destiny's lifespan. I always get a kick out of the gamers on LFG or now it's going to be guided games that will require Max to join a group LoL... "There is more to do in D2 vanilla then there was in D1" True, but without Incentive none of that means anything. D1 had the incentive that gave gamers the motivation to run the repetitive content. D2 doesn't because there isn't nothing worth grinding for, nothing to look forward to like... Trying to get your first icebreaker, Ghorn Patience Thorn LW Red death etc.................... That's not including the raid weapons and gear worth grinding for. What has D2 offered that most gamers want that have that excitement on wanting to acquire certain weapons or gear? When gamers get an exotic engram In D2, it's oh, it's an exotic, I'll turn it in later. Nothing to get excited about, it's just something I'll most likely will dismantle. Yet in PvP it seems the majorly of the watered down weapons are "OP" how does that work Bungie, what happen to... " we want weapons to work the same across the entire board"? Seriously, how can one weapon or any for that matter be so "OP" in PvP but barley work in PvE if Bungie claims this is what they are doing? The funny thing about that, they have been claiming that for over 2 years now. When the higher ups start actually giving a flying hoot is the only time this game will ever actually improve and become an actual game. Until then nothing will change and it's most likely things will stay the same, creating an illusion that this game is going somewhere when it's actually not.

12 RepliesI agree with nearly everything except calling the story good. It's shit, a boring, linear, predictable and 1 dimensional piece of garbage. It truly is one of the most lacklustre pieces of fiction I've ever encountered.
-
1 ReplyVery well put, and sums up how my group of friends feel about D2. All of us had several thousand (mostly) happy hours in D1. Its such a shame it's unlikely we'll be doing the same in D2. I have to admire the resilience of the white knight fanboys though, the ship is sinking fast and they're all still on deck telling everyone to admire the view. . After my 35 years of gaming, D1 will always be fondly remembered, just hope I can forget the disappointment I found in this sequel.

1 ReplyTake this with you I’ve see enough and could care less about your opinion which is stupid and makes little sense. May god have mercy on you and guide you to glory hole land

What bungie has done is built a TIT, a big fat TIT filled with juicy, juicy milk. We came for the milk. They realized all the fans they had through vanilla destiny. Then with dlc they saw an influx of "new" gamers. It was most likely the people who left after 3 weeks. I'm not a fan of how they are marketing the game, it's the same as CoD, Madden, Fallout, and countless other games. We will come back and taste the milk. They don't lose a thing, we still paid for the content. That's the criminality of gaming. They can sell you a gallon of sour milk and get away with it.

I want to play for the grind. I want to play for lore. I just want to play a game. I agree there could be more in Destiny 2, a whole lot more. I'm sad to see people bash a game that's only come out this month, but hey I can't stop you, I'll just say goodbye and have fun playing other games if you want. I'll still play because while I agree with you, I just wanna play a game this. Good luck my friend.

2 RepliesThis is a wake up call guys. If you honestly read what he's saying, it makes sense. I HONESTLY FEEL that none of you guys who like D2 EVER played a Halo game. If you haven't, go watch a walkthrough of Halo Reach or Halo 2. You will see how far Bungie has fallen in terms of story and creating a truly captivating game worth playing. Yes, you can blame the higher ups, but don't think for a second it's "not Bungie." They made the decision to work with Activision They chose to release content in forms of dlc I'm sure it's a fun game. But guys. The point of this is to say how much better it can be, and how little it takes to please this community. If you waited 3 years for this game and are blown away in all aspects then good for you. Until I see changes, I'm not buying. D1 fan

2 RepliesThis guy is right. This game seems bare boned. They just stripped away 3 years of work and information, just to make the change that way. They nerfed ability recharge rates, just in turn to add perks to the armor. When i seen the commercial for Destiny 2, when Zavala picks up the enemy gun. I got excited, I thought they were going to implement alien weapons. Since our light got ripped away. Something new. When we get our classes back, some how out players lose the ability to control our perks. Very disappointed

People continue to wake up to the face behind the mask that is Bungie. I still want to see the potential of Destiny but it only continues to fail.
-
Its a shame but so many people i play with feel exactly the same as OP. Once you hit that certain light its grinding to get higher gear, not better or different but just higher to infuse it cuz you already have those weapons you wanna play with just not high enough yet. They simplified the game so badly it is and its not an opinion, its boring and if you defend this bit you are truly delusional, pvp got murdered, solo players are just being pushed out of the game. But then again when playing with friends we are wondering wtf is there to do?

1 ReplyEdited by n3cw4rr10r: 9/28/2017 7:45:49 PMVanilla Destiny player here. I have been playing since Destiny Alpha. I was so excited for D2 and thought I would be playing it for a long time. I just bought another game yesterday...

I’m not going to lie I couldn’t be bothered reading all that, however the part I did skim over seem like I would agree. I have to say this is merely an overpriced DLC. I wasn’t planning on getting D2 as I knew it would be the same as D1, but I was in the need for a new game so got the pre order the day before (with the first two DLC). My main gripe is I WANT a sniper and a rocket launcher. I think the new weapon system is a joke. The locked in perks are a joke also. I also want my arc blade back. I can’t see why they couldn’t add another class without leaving the originals then add another two of the remaining types over the next couple of years. The power up system is not explained at all and quite confusing for a causal. I really don’t want to have to google how to power up. I quite like the new timer in the NF. Think it’s quite a cool mechanic to increase difficulty without just making the enemies stronger. I also like the raid. It’s not the hardest in the world and once you’ve got the mechanics dialled it should be a cake walk, but enjoyable all the same. I don’t understand why they got rid of strange coins. This using legendary shards (what happened to the exotic ones?!) to pay Xur is silly. Ultimately its academic since they will likely change the currency several times like in destiny. Lost sectors were made out to be this cool thing with powerful gear. But you just get blues and they are easy. Heroic public events are a plus. Overall I’m enjoying the game, it’s fine. But D2 shouldn’t just be fine. A lot of what I’m playing feels like stuff that should (was...) in destiny. Destiny had the potential to be the best game ever made. It missed by a long shot in the end due to being ripped apart and greed. This game is an adequate follow up. C- must do better.

D2 is worse then D1 in virtually every way. Yes, I have had some fun, but I had a lot more fun playing D1 in the beginning than I have playing D2. Although the grinding was almost ridiculous at times during D1, it was generally something that you would do with friends/others. There is none of that with D2. There is really nothing new in D2. It's just a reskin using updated tools that were used in the development of D1. You can see it everywhere. On top of that everything is just handed out. You want exotics? Here, have all of them. They drop below your level, but take them anyway. There is nothing special or different about anyone's guardian.

Integrity of the video game industry? What integrity? Lol.
microtransactions, cut content, bloated marketing teams creating hype trains that derail, using psychological techniques to get players to play your game more. Shall I go on?
13 RepliesEdited by WhatizLifeBro: 9/27/2017 12:55:51 PMVeterans didn't want D2. They wanted Destiny: Whatever the -blam!-. A large sandbox update to D1 where they BUILD onto their universe. Not constantly erase and remake. They should have just added EDZ to Earth. Added the 3 moons and revamp the old previous patrols to have new spawning enemies and public events like D2's zones. We could have had 5 raids to do each week instead of 1....implement D2 system into D1 if need be but that wouldn't have been easy and wouldn't have maximized their sales. Ppl would scoff at paying $60 for a dlc but a new game? Ppl will buy that. Bungie is all about the money and that's why ppl get angry...there are many game developers that do care and constantly add to their sandboxes. I actually enjoy the hell out of D2 but I also realize that it could have been sooooo much better. Oh well. We'll keep hoping.

3 RepliesAt the very core D2 is a weaker watered down version of Destiny. No amount of bells, whistles, and shiny fidget spinners will alter this fact. Bungie decided to make D2 for the casual gamer. Bungie will ultimately realize the mistake when the Tower is basically a ghost town by November. The hype will begin anew about how this DLC will expand on everything we've experienced thus far. It's Christmas so Little Johnny will decide to buy it from the money granny gave him. Meanwhile D2 will continue to be a shell of what it once was. The franchise will die. It will be January 2018 and nobody will be playing D2 again.
-
tl;dr : No offense to you, though. Destiny 2 was made because of veterans, but wasn't made for veterans.
-
1 ReplyWell said. You can bet your ass when destiny 3 or whatever they decide to call it, I will not be playing it unless they get their shit together. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, I'm and idiot but three times? I don't think so
-
Crucible is completely broken and unbalanced. It's laughable. This game shouldn't have been released yet even there's so much wrong I can go on and on for weeks possibly. Worst than Titanfall release.
-
2 RepliesBungie aims d2 towards casuals. Play the story, finish quests, complete the raid once and go flawless once then leave till the next dlc. They don't want people to play it every day like d1.
-
I agree with you. I’m done playing Bungie games
-
Guy makes perfect sense but you lot are not using your brain or thinking like bungie. All the stuff we want will be added as a dlc/micro transaction, also that never look at the forums as the majority of people who play the game don’t use them.
-
Atleast the story was better than the first one, waayyy better. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
